I was driving to my house, get close to it and getting ready to back into my driveway. I noticed a car coming up behind me so I drove up to the open space next to my driveway to be courteous and let the car pass and while pulling into the open space, I fucking hit my tenant's jeep with my fender and bumper.
He has a huge dent on his left quarter panel and a cracked front bumper, it doesn't look good at all.
My right fender is loose and my rear bumper has been pulled out. Brand new Jeep and I fucked it up already.
I called my tenant which is out of town till Monday and explained it, he said no worries. I did what I had to do and called the police to make a report on it and tomorrow I have to go to the station to get the report and I also have to call my insurance company to tell them about it.
Most accidents happen when you're close to home right?

Well, I guess they do mostly happen close to home, but that might just be percentages. I've never hit anything outside my house though! I bumped a car in Belgium once, traffic was crawling very slow on the highway outside of Antwerpen, and I lost concentration and slowly tapped the car in front. We both got out in the stationary traffic, looked at our cars, saw no damage, shrugged our shoulders and got back in the cars!
Still, I was a bit shaky after that and very nervous.

do you really need to file a police report, though?
i mean, since you are taking care of any damages and it was in your own driveway.

I was uncertain about it myself so I googled what to do if you hit a parked car and most of the results came up as to call the police and file a report.
My tenant is also a cop so I figured I better do every step thoroughly, haha.

Oh brother. I was having one of those lazy days yesterday where I didn't feel like going anywhere and just sit at home and watch movies all day and she wanted to go out to get some groceries. I told her I don't feel like going anywhere and we have enough at the house. We got into a very little spat, I fell in and we went and this is what happened when we got home.
I did not at all bring any blame to her over this though. We're doing very well and I can't blame her for my mistake.

i had some dogshit on my shoe and didn't realise till after i got in the car, then when i saw it on my shoe i was like fuck! trying not to get any on the pedals and driving really badly. so i took my shoe off and drove without it on but it made my acceleration really jerky, so i pulled into a bus stop and scraped the shit off my shoe and put it back on. luckily theyre old so the treads and non-existent. i drove terribly the whole journey because of some poo.

I don't know the law where you are, but you don't have to file a report. And if you can afford to pay for the damages without reporting it to your insurance company, you should do that too. Otherwise, both of your insurance rates will go up.
Anyway, that's what some cops in Detroit told me.
but, obviously, if paying the deductible is easier to do than pay for the whole thing, do that....because that's what insurance is for. However, I think it's best to keep your rates as low as possible, and your driving record blemish-free, so if you get into a real bad accident, you'll be covered.

I just got my Jeep out of the shop, it cost me $460 to replace my right rear flare and back bumper. Not too bad considering I have a $500 deductible and the repair price didn't reach it.
I'm not sure how much damage I did to my tenant's Jeep. He works midnight shifts and I haven't talked to him since Sunday but I did go out with him to look at the damage and he wasn't even worried.
Luckily I qualify for first time accident forgiveness and I don't have to worry about an increase on my rate.

I was hit when I was parked on the street once. The lady was nice enough to leave a note with her insurance and contact information. She had some fancy insurance company though... 'cause they paid for everything. I didn't even have to contact my insurance company at all.
So, props on doing the right thing. You could've just driven off and pretended like nothing happened and feigned ignorance. May the heavens smile prominently upon you, sir.
