I got hit in the left arm by a 7.62 round in my left arm under an ambush during duty in '04.

I didn't feel it till the gunfight stopped and my teammate held a hot bic lighter to my wound to stop my bleeding.

I wasn't shot, I fell. Which is much worse.

I was looking into the half marathon this morning for next month, fucking law of sod (murphys law for americans). I was actually also thinking how fit I am atm to.

I'm trying to make light of it but it's also a week off work, thus unpaid leave - shit's depressing yo.

at that time, no I wasn't. I didn't get a purple heart or anything.

Thanks. A positive response (y)

My ankles are made of chocolate now. I've torn the ligaments that many times it's just one of these annoying times I go through every few years but each time it's longer and longer recover and next time it's easier and easier for me to injure myself :(

Have you thought about going to see a phsyio?...they're great for working on a comprehensive rehab and strengthening program...trust me,this comes from a guy who 2 years out from a ruptured achilles tendon which was partially brought on by multiple rolls and subsequent weakening...ahhhh memories of swollen day’s gone by... I've seen physios in the past, they do help.

Getting referred takes ages though, injury almost heals before you get to see one with NHS by which time they'll discharge you soon after. I don't have separate insurance.

I know the basics tho, I know what to do to help healing, I have a physio friend. It's all the inactivity that goes with an injury is the worse part, then all I do is eat and feel sorry for myself. I was training up to 6 times a week, now I know I can't... sooooooooo frustrating, grrrr

It's true. I am slightly taking the pee out of myself here. But I'm a terrible patient. It's the simple stuff like having no food in the house. Having to sit down to pee. Putting a pair of trousers on almost has you in tears. Sitting at home all day gaming. Not being able to get a shower too easily, I seriously stink right now.

wah wah wah

Give it another 24 hours and start put it in a hot bath with a ton of epsom salts, let it warm up and do gentle rotations while submerging the ankle...this will do wonders for both your injury and your stank...

For the next step of the recovery process after all bruising and swelling is completley subsided:

Resistance Band Dorsiflexion Exercise
(http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/strengthening/resistance_bands/dorsiflexion.php)
Resistance Band Plantarflexion Exercise (http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/strengthening/resistance_bands/plantarflexion.php)

Resistance Band Inversion Exercise (http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/strengthening/resistance_bands/inversion.php)

Resistance Band Eversion Exercise (http://www.sportsinjuryclinic.net/strengthening/resistance_bands/eversion.php)

I also think if I wasn't injured and I went into work Tuesday, I would still have a job.

This has been one sucky week so far.

At this juncture in your recovery,as a patient,I am finding you to be resistant to my treatments...I am one of the foremost self-appointed specialists on the entire internets...if you can't comply with my course of advice and drop all this "woe is me" giberish I may be forced to withdraw my services...where,I ask,is the resillance supposedly found amongst britains...you shall train on the seas and oceans, you shall stretch with growing confidence and growing strength, you shall defend your appendage, whatever the cost may be,you shall walk on the beaches, you shall jog on the landing grounds, you shall run in the fields and in the streets, you shall hike in the hills;you shall never surrender!...

p.s: hope you really didn't lose your gig, sorry bout that if ya did...

Sorry to hear that man. But remember that scene in World Trade Center when that hispanic guy under the rubble said to Nicolas Cage, "Pain is good, pain means you're alive? Maybe you should be focusing on the pain those guys went though instead of bothering us with your measly little foot injury? You're post made me sick. God I wish you were dead.

Adam

Hehe. I can't argue with the 9/11 argument, that was slightly worse than my foot.

Are you saying there is a 9/11 film with Nicolas Cage? Who commissioned such a thing? I bet it was awful? And who keeps hiring Nicolas Cage?
