Normally I wouldn't do this, but since it is on the main page...
Opinions on the Lyrics? I dropped the speed about 25% and upped the pitch about 30% (that helps me decipher lyrics).
Thoughts...

the beats (ie instruments, scratching, etc) were never an issue....they always come correct.
the beasties have had corny lyrics since the get go....question is, do they get to corny?
and the "i'm the best mc and your not" idea has been played out IMO....

Sorry CJ, I was vague. I didn't mean whether or not you had an opinion on the merit of the lyrics, only whether or not we could decipher them.

maybe but hearing some of the boys ideas on this subject, especially mike d, still makes me laugh hearing some of the shit they crowbar into rhymes
this track is getting a lot better each time i hear it

I appreciate Mike D still dropping tv references
ie: Curb Your Enthusiasm & Ted Danson

i could see why one would feel this way, though that's their pedigree, they're from the old school. i think it's a bit late in their career for you to be over-critical about such. they are clearly on auto-pilot, just having a good time. i don't think they are overly concerned with reinventing themselves anymore or proving any sort of lyrical dynamic. at some point you need to enjoy this phase of their career for what it is; past their peak of turning the game on it's head, but at least still making records that don't suck. ^ good skills but i do think they are trying to prove what proper hip hop is about i.e doing your own thing, enjoying yourself, not bragging about bank accounts, not autotune.

i don't think these are conscious decisions, as in they're not making a statement regarding such. they're just being themselves and making music. i mean, i wouldn't consider not using autotune a triumph, or enjoying yourself for that matter. they just happen to be genuine artists, plain and simple. sure, that offsets the trend in hip-hop these days, but that's not to say they have an agenda to point that out. they make music because they enjoy it, as any real artist does; i doubt lessons of principle are anywhere on their radar (regarding musical trends at least).
that's just one guy's opinion though. :o

Then move onto something else... Because those types of rhymes have been the theme of Hip-Hop since the creation.
Not just the rhymes. Who had the bigger PA System, best DJ, better rhymes, more gold, more money, more ladies... the list goes on and on.
Hip-Hop has always been all about bragging and boasting. And who does it better than the Beasties?

probably didnt explain myself very well, i meant that by doing there own thing and not trying to pander to current successful commercial trends, by just making a beastie boys album and jamming etc that is making a statement without trying. I think they tried too hard on TT5b to keep current.
