. I'm hoping it is, that beat is perfect for him.

Yauch's a monster on that cut. he's kinda got a '3-minute rule'-type bravado goin on in that one, i feel. heavy, macho beat too; frames the content real nice.

the intensity of the vocals in these clips is so profound. from the fierce lyrics, to the emphatic deliveries, to the remarkably effective back-up schemes, it's just made such a significant impression on me. couldn't be any more pleased.

I agree: "I got tigers claws that'll scratch you dead" BUT also I think MCA is such the master of rap that he intenionally makes it sound like "scratch your dick" or even "scratch your neck" ... and basically saying all THREE of those at the same time in only the way MCA can... (lyrical genius and master of rap) And that makes me envision how he's had to face a fight against cancer.

I might be wrong about this but the proceeding line is possibly about the spider-man Green Goblin fight at the end of Spider-Man 1. And if it's not actually about that it's still a crazy description and deserves to be ill style compared to Trolls 2 anyways.

Taking a wild guess on MCA's verse. I love it, but I'm sure there are minor errors in here:

Jump out the window onto a parade balloon
My style is iller than the goblins in Troll 2
Cause I'm the type of M.C with the most pizzazz
You're stealin my books, like I was Grandmaster Caz
Got rhymes about antihistamines and analgesics
Rhyme about expectorants? Y'all don't see it
Soothsayer, not a player, rhymesayer extreme
Burn like fire when I step on the scene
I got shark's teeth so I can bite your head
I got tiger's claws that'll scratch ya dead
I got wings like a dragon when I'm flyin above
Shoot venom from eyes when it's time to get ruff
Step back, and check yourself
Cause M.C's got weapons that'll ruin your health
So if you're feeling strong, then reach for yours
My book is my shield, and my mic is my sword (sword sword sword sword sword....sword)

Adrock's is a little tougher

Now
It's Adrock rappin I'm back again
Like a Big Mac attack on your gut
And it's wack my friend
I'm a maxer, relaxer and I'm chillin
I take that shit serious, like Jerome Dubillon (absolutely not what he says)
I burn you to a crisp sucker back up off the toaster
I'll make you sick like a Kenny Rogers Roaster
See this rap thing is all about the braggadocia
I check my rear-view, M.C's ain't gettin closer
People think I'm slow cause I'm just a little challenged
*Something I can't make out* wonderful talent
Live round the clock like Disco Donut
I'm like a tailor cause I got the thing sewn-up
Or a proctologist, I move asses
Got so much heat that I'll fog your Mom's glasses
Proof is in the pudding and the pudding's in my pants
You heard me rap and now watch me dance

Someone else should have a crack at Mike D's verse. The obvious shit is obvious, like the Elton John mention and rats in the Taco Bell, but I'm convinced Sergio Georgini is another Office reference, and it's probably wrong. The only obsucre-ish part I can be confident of is

On the mic I spit, the match is lit
Mike Dino: The Jewish Brad Pitt
Making music for librarians and burly jocks
The rapper Mike D known for curly locks

I don't think the lyrics that came with the CD are 100% accurate.

Does anyone know what Mike D says in the first couple of lines of his lyrics? Something like "For one name who delivers to the rafters, from up above you can hear our laughter"?

I thought he was referring about laughing down at atheists one day, and that "For one name" meant Jesus, but he is Jewish? Just curious cuz I've really only used to MCA making religious/spiritual statments.

Troll? Why the chip on your shoulder? I was asking about the meaning of that verse. Perhaps you are were so focused on monitoring the forums for a chance to prove you own the printed lyrics (nerd) that you overlooked my main question, which was about the meaning of that verse.

And in case you haven't noticed, the printed lyrics aren't 100% accurate anyway. Moron.

It means you don't understand that a player's retired number is hoisted above the arena, above the haters, in this case while said players are laughing at those who have dismissed them. You are being given an opportunity to be present at the event, with a 'save the date' notification, which will help avoid schedule clashes. It may not happen tomorrow, or the next day, but it will happen. Good times.

I know the literal meaning, but in reality, tell me the last time you saw (or give me a link to a youtube video) a teams' numbers literally being hoisted up to rafters, with haters laughing upwards.

I'm sure your reading skills are top notch, but your comprehension skills differ from mine because I'm always looking for hidden meaning.

I still say the verse is a type of religious metaphor (with haters being athiests).

You say "we just told you the meaning" as if you and Kid are a large group of people. In reality, you and Kid are just two people, so it's a bit risky of you to assume that Mike himself agrees 100% with your hasty interpretation.

And besides, you're missing an even bigger notion: Why would he rap about eventually going down in history? Why would Mike imply that the day has not yet come when the BBoys have gone down in history?

According to you, Mike is saying that the date will eventually come when the BBoys go down in history, but that it has not happened yet.

And according to Kid, Mike is saying the the date "may not happen tomorrow, or the next day, but it will happen." This sounds more like the apocolypse to me than what he thinks it means, which is to avoid "schedule clashes" (LOL!).

I'm glad you are easily amused, but too bad that lazy mind of yours hasn't ventured far enough defend its own ignorance.

You are still saying that Mike is rapping about the BBoys not yet having gone down in history, which certainly is not the case.

It's OK if your job doesn't involve much brain work but don't let it get too rusty. Ignorance is only bliss for a while, then you go broke.

Lex Diamonds
05-10-2011, 12:28 AM
Why do you assume this guy is a troll? The Beastie Boys are constantly referencing Christianity in their lyrics. For example Triple Trouble is about the Holy Trinity, the original name for LTI was going to be "Don't Be A Heathen", and the picture in the PB sleeve is actually the boys being baptised.

Get your knowledge up before Mike D condemns you to eternal damnation.

Kid Presentable

It's fitting that my favourite song on the album becomes my favourite thread.

Upon reflection, I think Adrock's verse is rapped from perspective of the Australian racehorse 'Rooting King' which could be why Mike is seeking atonement through his Apostolic flow, since racehorses = gambling = sin.

It would go some way to explaining the flagrancy of Horovitz's boasts since the horse in question has won every Melbourne Cup for the past 50 years.

Lex Diamonds
05-10-2011, 12:45 AM
Yeah, that makes sense. If you look back, the same horse also appears in Paul Revere and High Plains Drifter and there is a picture of it in the CYH collage. Most people don't realise that most of TMU is actually distorted horse sounds but if you play "In A World Gone Mad" backwards you can clearly hear Mix Master Mike saying "I'm holding the saddle and the carrots are boiled, our steed is fit for any hurdle" over & over.

Beastie Boys always have deep hidden meanings behind their lyrics. They never just rhyme things for the sake of rhyming.

Here are a few examples:
The proof is in the pudding and the pudding is in my pants.
I got the brand new do do guaranteed like yoo hoo.
Weird thing to say, here it goes tough titty.

This is some Da Vinci code shit.

LOL! I know lol! Now you know why the particular verse I've been discussing all along was so odd to me at first, because I usually expect MCA to outnumber the others on religious references and metaphors... But Mike's tone of voice in this particular verse hit me like that of a thoroughly honest preacher, sent directly by God Himself, with a thoroughly urgent and painful reminder for the unsaved souls! LOL?!? I got tired of buying replacement rewind buttons for my car stereo, so I wanted to see if anyone knew what he was saying. That's why I came here to ask, on the BBoy's forums. Looks like my hunch that there was deeper meaning kinda has some kick to it. LOL! Thanks Mike!

Successful Troll is Successful!

lyrical sidenote- Madison Square Garden honored Elton John on his 60th Birthday Performance by retiring the number 60 in the rafters along with Billy Joel and Willis Reed's #19

http://www.thegarden.com/faq/index.htmlA retired jersey number is the highest honor a player from one of our teams can achieve at Madison Square Garden...When a number is retired, it will forever hang from The Garden rafters and can never be worn by another player from that franchise again. Retired Knicks jersey numbers are: 10 (Walt Frazier), 12 (Dick Barnett), 15 (Earl Monroe and Dick McGuire), 19 (Willis Reed), 22 (Dave DeBusschere), 24 (Bill Bradley), 33 (Patrick Ewing), and 613 (Red Holtzman. The 613 signifies the number of wins attained as Head Coach of the Knicks). In addition, the number 12 hangs to celebrate Billy Joel's record breaking 12 sold out nights in the Arena (Feb-April, 2006) and the number 60 in honor of Elton John's 60th performance at The Garden on his 60th birthday (March 25, 2007)

I'm impressed, they're rapping about a long burn fire connection we have.

I know the chorus on the lyric sheet says "the truth shall set you free"..but it doesn't sound like they are saying that, maybe I'm deaf.

Best part of the album is when Mike D does the high pitched "Fire!" under MCA. It gives me goose pimples.
