Tim Hetherington, an academy award nominated documentarian, was killed yesterday in Libya. He co-directed Restrepo which is a cinema verite' trip into the Hell of the Korengal Valley in Northeastern Afghanistan. The Korengal Valley is the most dangerous location to be deployed and in the first 5 minutes of the film you will see why. You can view Restrepo as an instant view on Netflix. I revisited the film last night after hearing of Tim Hetherington's death. It is a powerful film. Two award winning photojournalists were also killed in Libya in the same attack.
RIP

yeah - it's a shame, the guy did a great job with Restrapo

But what he did was both brave and insane - I'm sure he understood the inherent danger of immersing himself in the battle.

You can go on this link and see a short film called Diary. He put it together to show how we are connected. It is his artistic view of the last 10 years of his career. The Liberian and Congo images are disturbing.
