I could barely watch it. I'm surprised Jim Shearer didn't have to change his pants during the show. His giddiness was pathetic. And the show was inside that little ass studio. It looked like something out of TRL. (n)

girls with flip flops and guys with ironed pink-striped button up shirts with gelled spikey pretending to look messy but stylized haircuts. what a pathetic crowd. well, at least that was in the front row. that was probably intentionally done by mtv.

Could someone have come up with more obscure trivia questions? Why not just ask:

Out of the bazillion minutes of video recorded of you, you said what in this 20 second clip?? Hint: The ones from 15 years ago you were shitfaced in.

It was a little dumb, but MTV is pretty stupid, and they didn't seem to have a lot to do with making that special. But it had its moments.

that's what i'm saying about shearer. it's cool he's a fan, but it was pathetic how he was trying to grab them and hug them and was all giggly and stuff. when he said, "the song that changed my life," that was lowest point. he should have just done his job in a better manner, cuz the beasties looked even kinda annoyed.

Burnout18
06-15-2004, 10:26 PM
haha yea... i saw him try to hug adrock at the end and he backed away a lil.

Yo who saw that fan reach up and hand mike something, then mike passed whatever it was to the other MCA and adrock.

loved the live performances, but that host has got to go...

where did the hell they find that guy?

and whoever produced it, leave the silly gimmicky segments alone...the B-Boys are best when they are themselves, not what you want to create out of them for shtick. Let them handle, you work on putting it on the air...

I saw the show last night and I thought it was hilarious. The Beasties like messing with people when they are interviewed so I thought it was kinda neat to see the tables turned a bit.

As far as Jim is concerned, where's the love. I've known Jim since high school. He has been a Beastie fanatic since the beginning and it was his lifelong dream to meet the Beasties. Give the guy a break, he was excited just like any of you guys would have been in that situation. And yeah, it was a bit rushed because if he just let the Beasties do what they wanted, the show would have to have been an hour at least.

Finally, I can't front because it was the Jim connection that got me to Vegas to see the show front row center and actually meet the boys earlier in the day and get autographs and talk and all that.

Big love to Jim!!!

i thought the show was great and it looked like the boys were having fun.
who cares if their fans are young and preppy or old and scraggly.

they're fans! and if they wear pressed pink shirts and flip flops, who gives a fuck?

i thought the host was cool in the sense that at least he was a fan......i thought the show was too short......it should have been an hour......did u see them cringe when they intro'ed the retrospective......both performances were cool.....mca finally got the lead out......except for the bald guy in the back (yeah, i saw him too) the crowd was typical TRL cookie cutters......not typical fans you'd find at a beastie show......overall i enjoyed it......how about those who were there start a thread to tell us some behind the scenes stuff???

Shit dude I am not a TRL cookie cutter! Although maybe the camera avoided my face in the crowd (have not see the show on TV). I was sportin' a Don King crazy hair-do that needs a close cut some day soon.

Hey I know what you mean - just kidding you. There were about 5 or so women in the MTV studio who must have been picked up outside. Although if you women are fans of the band I do apologize ahead of time for judging you by your tight shirts, bright colors, and your big hair.

Here is the skinny: I think from being there that 50 to 66 percent of the audience were fans (some older cats too). I think we all dressed up because it was live TV (and we had no costumes, make-up or hair stylists to make us look like street or hip hop kids - sucks I know). Next time we should have brought our utility clothing or dickies. Who cares what we were wearing - the performance was off the hook.

A couple of beers would have loosened us up maybe. Another thought that may have made us look like a bunch of simulated jackasses was the show's producer who keep trying to get us to scream like kids at their sweet 16 birthday party. I guess it is better than canned clapping and screaming.

SCBstylee

nope, it's just as bad.

canned laughter and clapping would made the whole thing surreal like a strange piece of performance art. Maybe we should produce MTV shows. I heard Chuck D is going to take over MTV for a week this summer - that might be better.

i was there and made it on tv a couple times after the last comercial break. i was the tall guy with the bright kelly green shirt (green like this --> :D ).

anyways, the whole thing was terribly rushed. and yeah, i was completely annoyed at that production lady being the applause nazi. the show should have been an hour, not half. and they shoulda skipped the stupid trivia junk and just let the b-boys play some songs. that would have been so much better. oh well. at least that guy outside gave me 2 stickers.

and it was pretty cool to be standing <10 feet away from the beasties.

adrock's reaction after they got their "prizes" for the trivia was priceless. u can see it on tv.

after the show the host guy jumped in the crowd and started shouting for them to play another song, but sadly it didnt happen. that would have been awesome, but oh well. mtv is lame, beasties are divine.

oh, also... the songs sounded a lot better in the studio than they did comming through my tv.

I enjoyed it. Adrock was cracking me up, and their performance was great.
The host was a bit giddy, yeah. My one gripe is how short it was. Mtv does a terrible job when it comes to stuff like that. Its always 30 minutes with loads of commercials.

Michelle*s_Farm
06-16-2004, 11:40 AM
and yeah, i was completely annoyed at that production lady being the applause nazi.

Ya, I had a night-mare last night about the "applause nazi" screaming at me shaking her fist and head epileptic-style: "Sceam louder fuckers - we let you in here, if your old and balding get a rug / dye you hair if it's grey...if your fat - suck in that stomach chump." Then the applause nazi bellows "This is rock and roll, be yourself - clap and smile for the audience."

I was there and thought the Beasties were great and that MTV sucked. Really. Incredibly disappointed. Was at the end of the line and got stuck in back standing and could not see a thing. I'm little. Also, I was a little embarassed that I was basically on TRL. Felt reallllly old. And the PA yelling at me to keep my arms up cause it looks better on TV was a drag. So after being so excited about having won, I'm not quite sure it was worth the aggravation. The whole experience was sort of surreal.

BEASTIES DROP YOUR LABEL YOU GUYS DONT NEED IT....

Ok B-boys & Girls, I was the "Dick" that asked the stupid question. For the record it was not my stupid question. It was a pre-written (admittedly retarded) question that was handed me to ask. Even though I knew the Beasties don't "Battle" anyone or ever have it was an opportunity to actually have a convo with the boys, on live TV no less.

After I asked the stupid question and got a stupid answer I knew I should have just asked what I wanted to in the first place, which luckily I was able to squeeze in at the end. My real question was "Have you ever played Boomin' Granny Live."

So, even though you may still feel I'm a "Dick" for not scrapping the battle question in the first place, I’m sure you would have probably given yours to have the opportunity that I was blessed with.

Peace,
E

Hey there... if it's any consolation, I knew you were a ringer. How else could they segway into a video clip related to your question on live tv? I thought you did good. Thank god you got to ask the second question.

I don't really even see a problem with that question. I mean its obvious they weren't battle rappers back in the day...but they've rapped about listening to historic battles while ridding to school and they have battle raps in some of their lyrics. I was interested to hear the response...and it was classic beasties..they had a funny story about how someone tried to battle Mike D.

Big Ups Friction for being calm and collected both on air and on here.

yo, it was obvious that mtv wrote that question. they do that all the time. catch any moment where fans ask questions of celebs on mtv and they always sound like some idiot producer wrote it. its never what a real fan wonders. i don't blame you cause i would have jumped at the opportunity too. I would have tried to also slip in, "the new album is missing instrumentals and hardcore, when are you picking up the instruments again?"

So you wouldn't have done the same thing? Keep fighting the man. I'm sure you watched that "MTV TRL Bullshit" though. And that is the difference, you watched and he was there for the chance of a lifetime.

Friction was lucky enough to be given the opourtunity to ask the questions, 1 scripted and 1 of his own, and he did. If he doesn't ask the scripted opener, he bites the hand that feeds him and maybe doesn't get hooked up again.

Overall, Friction did what 99.9% of B-Boys fans would have done; you being the .1%.

Personally, I'm jealous as fuck and happy for my man at the same time.
