Heres a guide to my wild ride, a hiatus Beasties style.
I think I was lucky enough to be the only one on the board to see all three shows. Heres the the low down....
DC 6/17
No 99.1 here in Jersey, and no luck with the ticket sale online. How about $300 on ebay, hell no. I left NJ at 5:30 PM on Thursday headed for D.C. without a ticket. A bunch of people on the board said don't bother, you'll get there too late or you'll never get in. HAHAHAHA Percistence paid off big time. I didnt see one person selling there +1 or wristband. Not one person for 3 hours of waiting and watching. About 11pm a rep from HFS walked over and asked who didnt have a wristband. At that point there were only 9 people standing around. He lined us up and left for about 10 minutes. He came back and gave out writsbands for free. Can you say FIRED UP??
The 930 Club is great, small, short stage real sweet. The crowd didnt consist of your typical BBoys fans. I have no idea why the stiffs in the back were even let in. They should have setup a shoe shine outside, someone would have been rich! I hadnt seen the Boys since the JMJ Vegas show so when they came out I went nuts. About half the crowd starting bouncing to Sure Shot, I kinda expected more. I must say from what I saw everybody was cool, not fucking each other up. Although the Boys dont condone crowd surfing some idiots did it anyway.
Open Letter to NYC and Brass Monkey were big suprises. During the concert MMM did throw them off a few times with his choice of beats. For anyone who doesnt understand why the boys are screwing up during shows, keep reading. When you play something over and over our minds memorize the repetition. If you were raping to the same beat lets say 300 times your mind would be trained to start flowing at different specific points. MMM will break this repetition in turn throwing the boys off course with the upcoming rhyme. When Hurricane DJ'd this didnt happen very often becuase he played live songs very close to the album version.
The energy onstage was excellent. The first show on the east coast in 3 years and they were ready. I was happy with the setlist, just needed Pass The Mic. Did Anybody who went see Adrock hold up the shirt in the middle of the show? Yeah I did it again and got real crafty this time. Overall it was a great show, cool crowd and good preformance.
Camden 6/18
I arrived home from DC at 4:30am Friday went to work at 7am and left for Camden at 7:30pm. Thank god the times were posted so I knew when the Boys were gonna play. I arrived after the darkness showed they were still in 1987. Philly/Jersey fans are great but this wasnt the typical show lineup for a good crowd. I was suprised from what I could see everybody was loving it. When they were done, thousands of people left before the Strokes went on. I mean it really seemed like everybody left.
They played root down before sure shot, not sure why the change. Brass Monkey again because someone requested it during an interview before they went on. It was the closest they played to me in jersey since 92.
Jones Beach 6/19
The problem with this show - I said it a month ago, WHY WERE THE BEASTIE BOYS PLAYING THESE FESTIVAL SHOWS?? Seemed like most people in Camden went to see the boys and left, but at Jones Beach the fans went to see the other bands. You probably saw in the other post that hardly anyone sang along to Paul Revere. WTF!!! They came out with awesome energy, more than the other 2 shows. Open Letter to NYC was incredible, it was a great experience hearing it in NY. They finally sang Pass The Mic and it was flawless! Definetly the best version I've heard them do. A shit load of people stayed for the Stoke Its. I waited for the Beasties to come out from behind the stage. Good thing cause Jay Z came onstage and did 99 Problems. No luck with the guys they never walked out toward me, but Jay did.
The Beastie Boys still have it!!! There is no doubt in my mind. Anyone who is ready for the tour put your hands in the air and wave'em like ya just dont care. If you'd like to hitch a ride on the east coast crafty coach let me know.
Trip Stats:
Miles Driven - 942
$ for Gas and Tolls - 65
Beasties CD's Listened to - 17
Amount of sleep from Wed. to Sun - 6 hours
