Hey Remy,
Do you understand how Sundance works? There are several categories and they select/accept a certain number of films to compete in each category...right?
Then on top of that, they just do some premiere's/screenings of other films...meaning they are not in the "competition"...is that right?
Just tryin' to understand.
If they don't get accepted, I blame the Front Office. They probably should have traded Horovitz when they had the chance. :p

"SXSW CALLING FOR 2006
(2005-11-28)
The 2006 edition of the South by Southwest (SXSW) Film Conference and Festival has announced its annual call for entries. Submissions in all categories are now being accepted by the festival and applicants can submit via the festival website (www.sxsw.com/film). The final deadline is December 5, 2005. The 2006 festival will be held March 10-18, 2006 in Austin, TX.
"We're very excited for the 2006 festival, and we can't wait to begin reviewing submissions and planning the schedule of another terrific SXSW," says Matt Dentler, the Festival Producer for SXSW. The 2005 SXSW Film Festival drew record numbers of attendees from all over the world and feature screenings of such acclaimed films as "The Aristocrats," "Murderball," "Palindromes," "Unleashed," and many others. Films that have received distribution deals since screening at SXSW 2005 include: "Emmanuel's Gift," "Green Street Hooligans," "Mirage," "Reel Paradise," "The Roost," "Sarah Silverman: Jesus Is Magic," and more!"

There's all of that and more.
It's like mini-Hollywood for 10 days in a really small town. Seriously, the whole festival is centered on one street. Like last year, I walked down that street and saw Jared Leto, Steve Buscemi, Kiera Knightly, Adrian Brody, and many more, all in like one day.
But yeah, there's free shit everywhere, movie screenings, panel discussions, Q and As, TONS of parties, bands, everything.
And it's awesome because I just drive up there, walk around, movies are 10 bucks or 15 for the ones in the premiere category.
Locals get access to some tickets early, so every year hundreds of people camp out at a mall in Salt Lake waiting for tickets.
It's so great.

Yauch....what's the word?
DandyFop
12-02-2005, 07:01 PM
What do you mean Yauch destoryed that possibility? Just of you going? Of fans seeing the show? Sorry I was confused by that.
I can honestly say, I have never had a hard time getting into some of the biggest films at Sundance, premieres that went on to be huge successes, had big big stars in them. As long as you are patient (meaning, day of show, you show up early that morning and wait all day for tickets, since it's a midnight premiere probably) you can get in.
You are right though, it would royally suck if people travelled here and couldn't get in. Unless someone has a whole lotta extra time and money on their hands, I might not risk it. Guaranteed, at least the premiere screening will be sold out the second tickets go on sale, so people have option to either a)wait the day of or b) get tickets that are released that morning. Or, maybe you're right and that show would be overcrowded with people who have passes.
I sleep out every year for the tickets that go on sale to locals. It's my mission this year to get as many tickets for that premiere screening as possible, in order to give them to other Bboys fans. Problem is, those tickets go on sale early January, after people would have to plan a trip.
Even if the Bboys didn't plan a performance, there's always a ton of "surprise" performances at Sundance, you'll find out the next day that someone just jumped up on stage in a little bar and went for it.

i cant speak for her, but i dont think the big screen adds or enhances it much at all in this case. the video for the most part is average, regular quality(hi8). the audio is the best part of the film, and according to yauch they even subbed in audio from other shows of the tour into parts of this film to make the audio the best as possible. so the audio will be great, the picture wont be the best(or the worst for that matter) but thats how it was intended to be. i'm looking forward to the film but if someone doesnt like the film then i dont think they would've liked it no matter how it was pieced together cuz the concept from the start was low quality video with the good audio and the fans perspective.

y'know, I really hope this movie does well and has plenty in it to hold an audience. I mean, having just the music is great for fans like us, but it's not enough to captivate a larger audience, it'd be good if there was a bit more documentary style stuff, backstage footage maybe, I dunno. I'm sure I'll love it either way but some behind the scenes stuff or fan interviews from the night would be ace.

Actually, according to most prominent linguists F*CK is not the mother of all four-letter words. IT is - C*NT -. This word can NEVER appear on the radio, TV, in magazines or any other media without a censor of some sort whereas F*CK is fast becoming a socially acceptable slang term . C*NT is (arguably) THE most offensive word in english language. Just shedding some light :).

It was my only time in that arena, so I don't know if it's normal for MSG crowds, or whether it was just NYC beastie mania, or whether it had something to do with the Yankees getting in the playoffs that night, but the audience noise probably overwhelmed the Beasties' audio. I'm wondering whether the film can possibly capture some of the crowd's insanity. In hindsight, it might not have been the best concert to film, but what to I know?

the high point of the crowd insanity was obviously sabotage but i felt the runner-up was the reaction to mix master mike dropping "brass monkey" unfortunately it come to an abrupt stop when adrock wanted to start over cuz of a mistake. the crowd still got into it but they were getting hyped, especially the floor crowd, right at the beginning, pre-screw up.

I dont think it will be hard to get tickets to the midnight screenings, especially later in the week long festivities...
i am trying to score a buddy pass on continental, and my cousin lives in Salt Lake City. So Cost wouldnt be that high, but i admit its still a gamble...
on another note, a screening in NYC with the fans that helped shoot this thing would be a keen gesture...
That would be a cool idea.
Congrats Beasties!

I think its safe to say the crowd noise has been kinda muted, a shame, becasue personally i love a strong vocal support of every track. you catch glimpses of it in brass monkey...but hopefully 'you can't, you won't and you don't stop' is still nice and loud from the crowd!

Ah shit. Those are all shitty theatres. Sucks that it's not playing at Eccles, that's the huge theatre. The library is pretty tiny, I better get into that damn movie!
As far as promoting goes, there's always a ton of people walking around handing out flyers for films and putting up posters, wearing shirts, bla bla. If they want me to do something nuts though, I will of course!

Here's the official blurb in the festival guide:
Awesome, I Fuckin' Shot That!
Director: Nathaniel Hornblower
The Beastie Boys have been redefining their own sound and entire style of music for years. So it makes sense that Awesome, I Fuckin' Shot That! redefines the "concert film" in their own exhilirating way.
On October 9, 2004, the Beastie Boys handed out 50 cameras to audience members at their sold-out performance in New York's famed Madison Square Garden. These 50 different passionate perspectives, shot from the point of view of the audience, take the viewer deep inside the world of a Beastie Boys concert, prismatically and kinetically capturing the experience of a live musical performance like no film has ever done.
Director Nathaniel Hornblower (aka "M.C.A.", aka band member Adam Yauch, who has made some of the most inventive and groundbreaking music videos of all time, shows off his impressive visual style in creative an innovative feature film experience. Utilizing dazzling editing techniques to bring together the footage from the heart of the concert (the fans), he creates a symphonic whirlwind of beats and images that, combined with the Beastie Boys' amazing performance, is sure to knock you right on your ass! So buckle up, because you don't want to miss this ride.

The guy who wrote this, Trevor Goth, is a dumbass. I hate all the blurbs he writes. He's always UBER ass-kissing in everything, I think he blows his load a little too often.
But I still CAN'T FUCKIN' WAIT!!!
