View Full Version : Awesome I Fuckin Shot That Screening Review

In my drunken stupor I'll try to be the first one to review this amazing experience..

So tonight at tribeca cinemas, the group of people that "fuckin shot that" met for the last time to review this work of art. Awesome I fuckin shot that is in simplified form the 90 minute performance of the beasties at msg in October 2004.. But its so much more than that.

John, Michael, Duro, Yauch, and everyone else have created the definitive concert film. Each song is filmed like the Brass Monkey video with multiple effects, and editing to create a "multisensory" experience. For those who have viewed the brass monkey video. Imagine that, but with each song having it's own theme and set of effects. This is truely the last word on concert movies.

After spending nearly a year and a half in post production, they have created something greater than the parts we all filmed. Each song is taken to another level through editing and effects. IMHO the movie I viewed tonight is actually better than being at that concert.

I'll try to keep this short review as spoiler free as possible, but imaginie the anthology criterion collection dvd and take that to a level unimagined before. We experience the concert from the view of every person there, from the msg staff, to the consescion stand, to the guy who really had to use the bathroom, its all there.

This movie is such a breakthrough that I feel that it will even appeal to the non beastie fan. Its a cinematography dream.

Yauch, thanks for stopping by tonight. Young remmy it was great to see you again. Jon and Micheal it was great picking your brains regarding post production. Peter and everyone else I got to talk to tonight, it was great seeing you again and excellent talking to you..

For all the other fans.. I promise this film will blow your mind, history was filmed in October 2004 and it has been immortalized for all of us to view.

This is my first Post.
I was never really a forum guy but damn I've missed a lot of good shit by not being one. Time to change things up.

Back on topic, I'm hoping the screening was private since I am only finding out about it now that it's over.

I can't wait to see this!!!

whats up gang...

tonight we had an amazing time at the screening. Dont know if BionicEye made it, but The Gooch made an appearance as dirtypetes guest.

i ran into rniebling, Ponce De Leon, adrock708, lyneday,Shadbells, and even guyute88...
an online persona is one thing. in real life, these people were incredible, open minded, full of energy and enthusiasm, great people to meet and greet with... and we all got to talk with the editors, producers, and most importantly, Hornblower himself( I took a picture with him as he gave me his autograph, look for a scan to follow)... Duro was there, Jon Weiner, and I missed Jamie but he was there too.

A photographer from the NY Times was there, they are doing an article in the Times Arts section(she didnt know if it will focus on the screening itself, or whether it is an article about Sundance)either way, they took a photo of me and Yauch and of all the camera operators that were there tonight.

now to the film...Ponce summed it up brilliantly. the post production effort that went into this made this a LEGENDARY film viewing experience. picture every music video they made over the last twenty years, and roll it up into one amazing night, the editing and visual effects were absolutely STUNNING...

SPOILERS AHEAD-

The movie starts with a crawl over the screen, at first the music from Scarface is playing and the crawl is telling the story of Fidel Castro and the Cuban migration in the early 80's... then another paragraph starts...

"regardless, on October 9th, 2004, the Beastie boys handed out 50 cameras...etc.etc.etc"

it was hilarious, from the opening sequence we knew this was going to make us laugh, cry, and maybe even have a seizure from all the quick cuts...

like Ponce said, each song has its own vibe, its own visual theme, and the editors took a bunch of shaky footage and turned it into SOLID GOLD...

every technique the band has ever used, they utilized it for AIFST..
fish-eye, black and white, split screen negative images, fast forward , even the Right Right Now Now technique, praying mantis Matrix style.

for those that wanted some backstage footage, you will not be disappointed. there is footage of the camera operators receiving instructions from Jon, the producer, and interestingly enough, the title of the movie was coined during that meeting. Jon was telling us how excited the band was to do this project, then he says "you will be able to show this to your grandkids and say "Awesome, I Fuckin Shot That..."

there is great footage in between sets where the band is running through the Garden corridors before entering the crowd for Intergalactic... they are all packed like sardines in a tin in some elevator, with Musak playing in the background, juxtaposed with the INSANE crowd hollering for more. its quite funny. whoever said this movie was "aesthetically witty" was right on...

part of the opening sequence included an aerial shot of Manhattan over the beats of Open Letter, then it shows the band preshow , doing their best team huddle..."HIT THE OPEN SHOT, PLAY DEFENSE"

special appearances by DMC, Doug E. Fresh, Yauch's and Diamond's kids(adorable dancing moves), and most surprisingly of all, do not read if you dont want to know, BEN STILLER and CHRISTINE TAYLOR, they were there in the crowd and one of the camera operators filmed Ben singing WORD for WORD, then in the closing credits, the camera operators interviewed Ben and Christine... it was cool, we had talked about how they were big fans, and now they will be part of BEASTIE BOYS HISTORY...

as the closing credits rolled, each camera operator was listed in alphabetical order, including Adrocks brother Oliver...

Jon Doran and Adam Yauch introduced the film, MCA was munching on popcorn and deferred to Jon to start the movie...there were 120 guests in a theater that seated 130... there were wide seats for couples, so my lady and I were right in front of Doran and his girl...

what else can I say, this will BLOW YOUR MINDS, kids...
and I am glad to share the info!!

Girly squeals are acceptable in a situation like this.

Question were there any of the shoutouts in this movie @ all? or perhaps any young girls dressed as pimps?

Ponce got alot of details from Jon, he said that most of the bands entourage isnt even going...

bottom line, Sundance is a celebration of film, and its not catered for fans of the band...

Question were there any of the shoutouts in this movie @ all? or perhaps any young girls dressed as pimps?

there were no video shoutouts or any of the videos that were shown between sets.

it was 93 minutes of SOLID GOLD HITS...

the ladies really rocked crowd at this show.

one line in particular, Yauch's "disrespect to women has got to be through..."
they did a cool montage of girls in the crowd...

I skimmed and now I'm going to quit reading because I just realized that I don't want to know anything other than it's watchable. It's tough to release any low budget movie in theaters, but hopefully your reaction tonight will help someone decide to show it where I can see it.

I'll just say that I'm glad that you people who helped film it got to enjoy a special night, and it will be cool to see your names on the thing. As I said before, it was a class move that you all got invited.

(I guess the shout outs for MSG really did bite the dust, because I can't believe they would leave Chris Rock out on purpose.)

Just read the very first review, that sounds fatastic, I really can't wait. So nice of Hornblower/Yauch to do this screening. I really hope it's as good as it sounds, the whole 'each song having a unique feel' sounds really good. I'm just like, trying to imagine a live performance of So What'cha Want looking like the music video or something like that. Would be very impressive. Is the editing style different for each song, or is it all still fast and frenetic like Brass Monkey?

Can't wait :D

As I type this at 20,000 feet... Regarding Sundance, Fans should stay home. The filmmakers said that many of them will not even be able to go , because of the limited amount of tickets available to the screening. They said fans should wait for the limited release, which will hit New York and LA in March. A wider release may follow depending on ticket sales. Currently the DVD is expected in July...

Secondly, cheers to you and Ponce De Leon for your reviews. From the sounds of it, it seems like something you'd have to watch to really appreciate, so therefore I'm not bothered about 'spoilers' or anything, it's all served to drum up my excitement further so thanks a lot :)

I was there last night as well for what might be the greatest concert film ever created. I could go on all day about the diffrent affects that were used, but ill let you wait to see it. The year and half wait was well worth it, i understod after seeing the film why it toook so long, they really put alot into the editing of it.

My favorite scene is still Mike D dancing and the girl in the crowd dancing the same way and they edit them so she is dancing over him in the same moition and than along side him.

As for sundance, they are playing 3 songs at a small club, Mike one of the guys who helped film and edit the film said that most of the crew including himself were not able to go. He said it would be impossible to get a ticket for it.

The film def kept you bouncing in your seats, and you could hear people singing along with it, i felt like i was at the concert all over again it was such a great vibe.

I think the worst part is now having seen it once, i want to watch it again but have to wait till march.

Well I have to say, what an amazing experience. I cannot say this enough, thank you. Thank you MCA, Beastie Boys, Jon Doran, and everyone who put this together. Congrats to all the camera operators, what a great experience right? Well my night started off like this...

I left Queens by car at around 5:15pm. I got into Manhattan around 6 and was in usual NYC traffic for quite some time. I thought I was going to be late but I ended up getting there about 6:50pm, 5 minutes after they said to be there. I went into the front area where all the popcorn and candy was and waited around for my boyfriend who was parking the car. I walked up to the woman who had the list, gave her my name and she told me to go into the bar/lounge area but no cameras were allowed and cell phones had to be off. Immediately I checked and obeyed the rules, as I always do for some reason. So I decided to wait for my boyfriend in the front area instead of going in right away. As I looked towards the door, MCA was standing right by it and as I could see with his lovely family. I wanted to go up to him and say "hello, nice to meet you, I've been a fan since the She's On It video, you guys are my faves, thank you so much for this whole experience, can I get a picture..." As I seen him there with his family though I didn't want to bother him, I didn't think it was right. So my boyfriend came in and we went inside. I went in and immediately seen Russ (BiggRuss) from the camera operators and his wife and we spoke a few minutes and I had to pee since before the 59th street bridge so off to the bathroom I went. As I came out they had us go inside to the screening area. As we all walked in they recorded us and asked us questions. I seen Jon Doran as I was walking in and he immediately recognized me as I immediately recognized him. Inside I seen Russ and his wife sitting down so me and my boyfriend sat right next to them. I sat down and seen MCA's daughter sitting in back of us and she was adorable calling for her "papa". :) Through the whole film MCA was sitting right in back of me and I guess at one point he switched seats with his daughter and sat in back of my boyfriend. The film was amazing, I was smiling ear to ear the whole way through and even bobbed my head and tapped my feet through the whole thing. After the film was over the lights came on and I turned around to see MCA as we all clapped and cheered and I smiled but at that point still could not bring myself to say something to him. People started to speak to him at that point so again, I did not want to interrupt. I really just wanted to shake his hand and say thank you. That was the most important thing I wanted to say to him...

So we all got up and he went out and I thought he left. I came to find out later people got pictures with him, autographs, and got to speak with him briefly. I had my camera with me, I would have taken the chance at the right moment but it just didn't happen. Everyone went back into the bar/lounge area and we all talked with one another. The photographers were taking pictures of everyone as they were also doing in the screening room during the film. They also took video of us and asked us what we thought of the film. I seen many people there that I remembered from the filming and spoke to them for a while. I even spoke to some I didn't see or speak to at the concert but was pleased to meet. It was like a family reunion and it was great that we all got to share and experience this together as fans of the Beastie Boys. All of the camera operators were such cool people, you guys are awesome. :) I went home with a huge smile on my face and something that will always remain in my heart and mind. What a night! :) My birthday is Monday so this was a nice gift and early celebration. :)

Thank you again everyone who put this together. Jon Doran, I'm so glad this came together for you, you really made this something amazing. Thank you MCA, Beastie Boys, and everyone involved.

What a night! :) My birthday is Monday so this was a nice gift and early celebration. :)

Thank you again everyone who put this together. Jon Doran, I'm so glad this came together for you, you really made this something amazing. Thank you MCA, Beastie Boys, and everyone involved.

Great description! Thanks for sharing! You should have talked to Yauch though!

Thank you. You're right! I should have spoke to him. I actually did though, just not that night. When the Beastie Boys did the K-Rock "Night Before The 5 Boroughs", I was the last caller that spoke to them. Of course I still didn't get to express my gratitude but it was nice to have that chance. This time I just couldn't find the right moment and when we left the screening room I thought he left the theater because I didn't see him after that. It was probably because I was at the bathroom again. lol I'm still happy and very excited though. I'm just very grateful for the opportunity. :)

So that was you that took that picture. I seen you ask him as he was walking out. I was right behind him and I seen you say to him, "Adam, quick shot", I believe. I was like, damn, why didn't I do that? lol But then again, as I said before...

Nice shot, good for you. :)

After reading this thread I feel like I just watched the last 15 minutes of Rocky I, II, III, and IV. Typically, I hate live DVD's and stay clear of them. But once again, I'm now confident that the Boys have gone well above everyone's expectations.....Glad to read about the clever editing. So it sounds more like video's set to every song instead of the standard humdrum live DVD's

Sounds like the only thing missing is memorable someone that can do a Peter Grant style rant about shirt scalpers ala The Song Remains the Same. My votes for Johnny Ryall

I was very disappointed. They left out the circus dogs from the preshow! ARGGGGGGG.

But if memory serves me correctly, they did not edit out any songs and the sound quality was awesome. The editing was interesting although they jumped around so much it might make people dizzy watching parts of it. But all in all, its an awesome concert DVD.

Great review!

Cannot wait! And much props to Yauch for continuing to be the liaison between the boys and the fans.

Brilliant! Wow, it sounds better than I expected. Thanks for the reviews people, sounds like a larf.

Hi all. I was great to see everyone again. This was so cool for the band to do for the hardcore fans. Wait to the rest of you see this movie. This is the way a concert movie should be made. Like noted before, you get to experience the shows from every part of the arena. The bathrooms and hallways during the show, backstage, from the front of the stage, all the way up to the last rows at MSG. No band has ever made a concert flim like this because no other bands has ever given out 50 cameras to fans, spread out all over an arena and told them to film whatever they wanted. Maybe other bands will that a cue after seeing this thing. All other concert DVD's look like music videos for every song and it doesn't feel like you were watching it from the venue at all. With this movie you get the feeling you had while watching the show, plus what the others in a different part of the arena saw as well. Really cool thing to be a part of. When a band lets you be a part of the operation, it's kinda a dream come true for a music lover like myself. Everyone, including the producers were ultra cool, and really seemed to have a interest in our options about the film. The follow messagers were cool, and fun to talk to, just as they were back in October of 2004. Also MCA was really cool, and didn't try to hide from the fans or pull any big rock srar bullshit. I got to thank him for letting us do this and shake his hand. When I got some balls up a couple minutes later, I went up to him and asked if I could ask him a question. He said sure and talked to me for a min or so, which was really cool. Time to wrap this up, if I get my picture with MCA from the nice gentleman that took it for me, as I forgot my digital camera I was post it here.

As I type this at 20,000 feet... Regarding Sundance, Fans should stay home. The filmmakers said that many of them will not even be able to go , because of the limited amount of tickets available to the screening.

Someone who works at Sundance today told me the Bboys and their crew were asking for around 150 tickets or something which is just impossible at that fest. I feel lucky enough to have got one since locals have access early, so even if I'm the only crazy-ass obssessed fan there, I am gonna represent!!

Thanks for the reviews everybody, glad to not only hear you had a great time but were able to share it with other fans!

Repost for this thread.

Yup, i begged. Yer damn skippy I did and it all worked out. I'm the guy who's listened to the bboys since I was 8 in 1986 - blasting 'Brass Monkey' on my walkman to the dismay of my school mates. I've got all the albums, bootlegs and all that. I've been to a bunch of their concerts with friends and had incredible experiences every time. The Bboys got me into music, playing guitar and bass. I had a bunch of bands and was influenced by them in so many ways - I feel like i grew up with them. Kids in school used to call me the 4th Bboy... i didn't mind.

Ok, so this reallly cool dude, who uses the screen name Dirty Pete, took pity on my pathetic begging ass and contacted me on Thursday about my pleading thread. He and his bro are huge fans but his brother couldnt make it - so he offered to take me. He wouldn't take anything in return and sympathized with me so we arranged to meet at the place last night... how fucking great is this dude?!?!?!

I got there about 15 minutes before the screening time and there were already a bunch of people inside. So i got there and was having a smoke outside next to the door waiting for DP when i looked up and saw Yauch walking up with his lady and daughter. I said, "Hey... you made it! I didn't think you'd come..." He sort of shrugged his shoulders, smiled and said something like, "Yup I made it!" I was the first guest he saw, so he might've been a little tense not knowing how people would act? maybe he was nervous about showing the film for the first time? I thought I'd be all excited with sweaty palms and a racing heart but i surprised myself at how laid back everything was. It felt like I'd already met him or something because it was really casual. I said something like, "i'm so glad to see you here and thank you doing this for your fans - this is incredible" He smiled and nodded his head and said "thanks man". He went inside and I finished my smoke.

I walked in the lobby and expected that maybe he'd make himself scarce, I'd left some papers on a table before so i went to get them. When I turn over, there he was getting a soda from the concession stand right next to me again. I took my stuff and walked away knowing that there're a lot of other people who'd want to say hi. Just then DP comes through the door - we did our introductions. He had run a pretty far distance because he thought he'd be late. We talked for a sec a few feet away from Yauch, I said to DP, "Psst... look who's right next to you..." He turned and I laughed. He looked back at me and was like, "... *blink* *blink* not bad!" we left that room and had a drink at the bar.

Maybe five minutes later the staff asked everyone to have a seat. Everyone went into the screening room, took seats and chatted for a bit. I ended up sitting right in front of YoungRemy and his lady. There were about 6 reserved seats, so I thought maybe Adam H and Mike would be joining the group. Someone walked up and gave short a "very unsexy" introduction to Yauch. Adam walked up with his yellow backpack still on thanked all the shooters for their work, jokingly scolded someone who's cell was ringing, and I think he just said "Enjoy!" and took his seat in the audience. I thought it was pretty cool that he sat in the middle of the theater with the fans. The film started.

As a review of AIFST... it really is all it's cracked up to be. This is definitive Beastie Boys. If you've never heard of them and didn't know anything about them, this film geniously encapsulates the "Beastie Boys Concert Experience". Once the concert gets underway, it's a little 'different' and takes a little getting used to. Its not what you'd expect when you think 'concert documentary' because at first the footage seems raw, but after an initial adjustment you get used to the texture of the visuals and you begin to understand exactly why this documentary is so brilliant - you really feel like you're there at the concert. I thought that there'd be lots of cheering and clapping but people in the audience were a little reserved. I think it was probably because Yauch was in the audience and people wanted to behave. Also, we're conditioned to keep quiet in movie theaters. It felt like people wanted to cheer more and sing along, especially with Paul Revere - you could hear people whispering it to themselves. I turned around and saw mad heads bobbing to the music. I didn't want to but I had to use the bathroom and I think I kicked someone's camera on my wayup the aisle, i'm glad i didn't bust my ass right there in the middle of the room. When it was over, people cheered, whistled, whooped and clapped. Yauch thanked everyone again from his seat... and the audience staggeredly called out "no... thank YOU!" right back. He asked everyone to go out to the "Sexy Lounge" for a little talk. And that was that - as we walked out a coupla guys with cameras asked people what they thought as they left the screening room.

Leaving the room, Yauch was waiting outside for everyone to file out. I stopped and tried to get my digital camera to work - fucking piece of shit ate up my batteries in like 5 minutes I'd had it on! I asked for one autograph made out to my sister (another big ole fan) and a pic with him. Actually it was funny - because I'd had camera issues, we had like 5 attempts at it: one standing next to eachother, then another one shaking hands and finally before I got a pic with a working camera Yauch goes... "like this" and gave me one of those link-your-thumbs-together with elbows bent like, "yo" handshakes... i think Remy got that pic for me.

I was standing next to him for a while waiting for DP... I could've talked more to him, but I sorta felt like, what can I really ask? Everyone and their mother probably asks the same questions. And everything I'd want to know has probably already been said in interviews, so I just thought it was enough for me to say "thank you, the film was incredible" I asked him when it would be released in theaters, he was like, "umm i dunno, march 30 I think?... sometime around then" I said something like "That's gonna make an great birthday present I'll get for myself! It's great meeting you, Adam - thanks so much for doing this."

People went into the bar, Yauch followed. I stuck around for a bit - it felt so early! - had a couple of drinks and chatted with people for a bit. Yauch was leaving when I was on my way to the bathroom, people were saying goodnight - I kind of waved and said good night too, walked by and that was that.

So there you have it. I'm glad I was more sober and three years older from when I met Adam H - sober is the key thing. It was much better having this be a laid back experience where I felt more like "see ya around, man!" than "Oh my lordry lord it's that guy who's in the soundtrack of my youth! Ohmygodohmygodohmygod!!!" I've met lots of celebs but the only ones I'd really care to talk with would be the Beatles and the Beasties. I would've liked to have chatted a little more, but there were so many people there wanting the same thing... I'm satisfied. If I ever met them again, I'd feel the same as this time - I'm not a big autograph-getter type, not big on idolizing celebrities, if i did i'd probably want to chat about their songwriting process, when do they do it, how they like to write, where they like to write, things like that.

Thanks again Yauch - for all the 20 years of music that accompanied and enlightened me through so much, the privelege to spend a few minutes and this unbelievable documentary I hope with bring them to redefine the medium and bring The Beastie Boys to new levels creatively. Cheers to you!! To the future of Oscilloscope!!

Have to give my 2 cents about the show last night, as another of those who fuckin' shot it. i would have to agree that it is by far and away the best concert film I've ever seen. Having the cameras in the audience instead of just around the stage makes for the most exciting, energetic experience on video. The shots are shaky as hell but it just adds to the live feel...I would also agree with someone that said it was arguably better than actually being there, in a way.

I spoke to one of the producers afterwards, and asked if the DVD would have multiple angles, where you could just watch one person's (let's say, mine...) viewpoint the whole time. He said, in fact they were trying to work on exactly that, but were trying to figure out how to compress a bunch of different angles... Knowing them, it is going to be one bad-ass DVD. Think of all the bonus stuff they could put on there! It's going to be painful waiting for this to actually come out on DVD to own...

oh, but they spelled my damn name wrong in the credits...what can you do.

CJ hood.. you've posted this on other threads.. I've been a fan since Check Your head (I'm 24).. Did the Ill Comm tour, Did the in the round hello nasty tour, on TT5B.. Did the tristate, plus was even at the club 9:30 show..

Anyone who was there during the screening will tell you that I'm just as big a fan as you are, and I haven't even read your 2000 posts and I don't know you.. You spend your time posting on this site, I don't ... You think that makes you a bigger fan? Ask young remmy or anyone else at the screening I'm as legit, dedicated, and knowledgable as you are.. I even asked young remmy about the all the discussions with miranmee about promotion of this and her ideas on dedication to fans, Even if I don't type a lot, I read... I'm sure many other non frequent posters are just like me.

You think 2000 posts makes you a bigger fan? To me all it says is you enjoy typing.. I respect your dedication, but don't respect your jealousy. You honestly think the Beastie Boys owe you something for being a fan.. Spend some time thinking about that tonight.

My two cents.. lets not turn this great thread into a flame war.. No disrepect.. I'm just saying you keep posting this shit.

Also if you are one of the camera people who never met me and are wondering who I might be.. I was the guy in the blue velour puma suit that wasn't scared to enjoy the movie.. cj, the contest was decided by the fact that you had to be in NYC on the night of 10/9/2004 with a ticket already purchased...

they decided who would participate by where our tickets placed us in the crowd... so it was really luck of the draw based on location in the Garden(all part of their master plan)

there was an email sent through the email list and a sticky post on the bbmb...

they gave us a paycheck($125) and a free shirt, an invite to the screening, and credit in the film...

location, location, location...

Ponce, as well as every other operator there, was good peeps..

CJ just because people who don't post a lot got picked does NOT mean they aren't "old school" fans. And who cares if anyone's old school as long as they appreciate what the Beasties really have to offer? It sucks that you didn't get picked but that's the way it goes sometimes, right? No need to give other people shit because of it.

CJ, did you have a ticket to MSG and if so, in what section? Maybe you can find out who beat you out in the lottery (if you entered) and had the camera in your section. I don't remember seeing cameras in my section, but I didn't enter the lottery because that was pre-Blackberry, when I checked emails infrequently. No matter, because I can't use a camera of any sort, but I would be over the moon to see my name in the credits.

Entitlement isn't attractive, as your friend found out when he did his string of embarrassing posts last fall. Those other people you mentioned weren't at the show and they're not complaining, so don't bring them into it.

As I recall, the lottery was open to people registered on this board who had tickets to the show, and it wasn't open to the general public. That was a cool thing to do and it gave people here a unique chance.

P.S. I've lined up for hours in the hot sun in faraway places with loads of huge fans, and most of them had never even heard of the message board. :p
True story: I was a fan before I had a home computer. ;)

I really don't want to get this thread too far off topic but I'll put my quick two cents.

My biggest beef with the band is that they don't utilize this site to let us know what's going on. This is not new news, it has been this way for many years. We always find out info from other sources first.

This site is the perfect way to communicate with the hardcore fans. And it would pull the diehards out of the woodwork.

There are always a lot of people "viewing" the forums but not a lot of people ever register...much less post.

As an old fan I don't feel I've been dissed personally. During the TT5B tour, I made some cool connections with folks in the Beastie camp.

But back to topic...I am very excited by the reviews and really hope they include Chicago as one of the "selected cities" that this will be released in.

Laver.. Regarding Chicago.. I spoke with many people involved, and it looks like just LA and New York for now... As I mentioned before though.. You'll have the dvd within 7 months.

If anyone has any specific spoiler related questions, please feel free to private message me. I'd like to keep this thread as spoiler free as possible for the fans that want it that way. Young Remmy gave you guys a taste with specifics but I think it should stay there...

My question isn't a spoiler, I don't think. Were you listed by real name or screen name? I would have preferred screen name because that would be a hoot, but I bet I'm alone on that. :p

Maybe if people were nicer to newbies more would register. I read the site off and on for ages, but only joined because I wanted to ask questions about the tour.

We were listed by real name.. My name is Chris Connolly.. but I'm in Miami tonight which has Ponce De Leon Drive (or avenue).. Feel free to google me.. Crazy ish.

On any message board, your post count is like your rep.. We are a tight knit group.. More so, because TT5B didn't sell like the other CDs so most fans that are posting today aren't here because they liked Intergalactic (hot song, CJhood, I downloaded the instrumental on the Ill Communication site before they added lyrics years later, big enough fan yet?). Anyways the regulars on this board can be tough..

Speaking of which... After the screening I think I overheard a few or a couple of people saying that their names were misspelled.

Might there still be time for them to get the correct spellings and fix it?

We are a tight knit group..
We might be small in number, but that doesn't stop us from breaking up into groups and tearing each other apart. :p Lots of great people joined around the time of the tour and left afterwards.

Were there any female board members at the screening? I didn't hear if hpdrifter was able to get there.

There were a good number of females at the screening. Whether or not they were operators, I can't say for sure. Most of the people that filmed were male. The girl from Seattle (is that hpdrifter?) , was not there as far as I could tell.. I specifically looked for her to give her a pound if she was there since thats a hike..

lyneday and shadbells were two cool chicks who helped film the show and were both there at the screening...

although they used our real names in the credits (I wouldnt want it any other way)it would be interesting to use screen names for the DVD...

one of the coolest parts of the screening was Jon recognizing us not only by face, but when he introduced himself he remembered us by name...

for instance, adrock708 was in the front of GA, on the very first row( he was shown in the tour blog for the MSG show with his camera), but when he said his name to Jon, Jon immediately recognized him and asked how his last name was spelled...

it really was like a reunion...
some of the other camera operators i recognized at the Nassau show and said whats up to back in December of last year, then last night we were chiling again...

cj, the contest was decided by the fact that you had to be in NYC on the night of 10/9/2004 with a ticket already purchased...

they decided who would participate by where our tickets placed us in the crowd... so it was really luck of the draw based on location in the Garden(all part of their master plan)

there was an email sent through the email list and a sticky post on the bbmb...

they gave us a paycheck($125) and a free shirt, an invite to the screening, and credit in the film...

location, location, location...

Ponce, as well as every other operator there, was good peeps..

ps Ponce- you are on a cruise to the Caribbean, damnit! what are you doing posting on a message board? :D

if you are like me, you are thinking back on last night and just soaking it all in, with a big smile to go along with the memory...

We didn't all get t-shirts... :(

but as Biggie once said jealousy is a mother fucker.

ya.....and i'm jealous of Bush to cuz he fucked up a war.....there's a difference between being jealous and being pissed cuz people are getting dissed....there are many heads here who've had great beastie experiences and all i've had was props toward them......reread yo!

i agree post count means shit, but when the majority of msg shooters have under 10 posts it makes you wonder.....

it would be nice to see more people (who spend their time on this site on a regular) get some offers......thats it, thats all, thats all there is!

I honestly think youre barking up the wrong tree...
did the people who you think got dissed have a ticket to the show or sign up for the contest?? no... lurkers or not, the ones that got picked simply signed up for the promotion ... they got picked...

in fact, they only announced 30 winners and 7 alternates because not enough people signed up. then they offered free tickets to a few fans outside the Grden the night of the show...

a few of us post more than others, but the quality of the footage isnt determined by post count, thats the bottom line...

I was talking about this film with hubby and a filmmaker friend of ours recently and they were wondering about the choosing of the cam operators. I explained (or in hubby's case, reminded) about the posts on the board and said I imagined the bboys huddled over a diagram of the Garden..

I'm now confident that the Boys have gone well above everyone's expectations

That's all I have to share from that night. I came away from the screening with the inspiration to work on the prequel to AIFST. It's going to revolve around an earlier performance that I bootlegged. I expect a release date of 1/2015 at this point. Here is a teaser based on raw hi-8 footage. Good sound quality I must say.

I just happen to enjoy other things and can't spend 10 hours a day on the message board talking about them. Some people sound like stalkers on this board its creepy.

I over heard someone say they wanted to fly out to sundance to see it again. I mean come on, get a job and a life, there are other things out there to enjoy.

As for the audio in the film, not all of it was from the concert they had to use some audio from other concerts on that tour cause they sounded better.

been down since CYH huh, good for yous.......when your as big as the beasties you can afford to do bizness this way......i forget how the camera men were picked, but i signed up for the mtv thing and the camera thing.......i know rich c and young remy, and i'm glad they got hooked up......but when i think of long time fans on this set....i'm thinkin me, gwedo, laver and pooty.....theres no doubt that old school fans get dissed......gotta bitch here cuz metalsludge don't give a fuck!

How old school are the old alt boards, or the beastie list, or the site before we lost our posts because they redone it. Who's to say who is an old school fan and who isn't? A fan is a fan no matter how many posts or who has been around on message boards longest. We're all fans, everyone who has posted on this board sharing their love for the Beasties. It should be about sharing our interest in the band we love, not who is a bigger fan. You know there are some die hard fans out there that may have never even come to this message board. Even if some caught this opportunity at the right moment and they never used the board before, then it was their time in life to experience this. Whether it be filming their movie, meeting them, or going to their concert and seeing them. It would be great if all Beastie fans could have a moment they will always remember. I thought back in 97' at the Tibetan Freedom Concert that when the SquirtMTV kid (Jake Folgelnest, I believe) videotaped me by the backstage area and then he told me it was going to Mike D and Capitol records that that was an amazing moment. Even just seeing them in concert was amazing enough for me. Never would I have imagined then that I would have this opportunity. If I didn't see the post for an MSG cameraperson right away, yeah I would have felt a bit dissapointed I missed out, but that's life, these things happen. I would have been happy for the people who did make it because they are fans and they have this unique opportunity, atleast someone is having it. Hey I still have yet to meet the Beastie Boys and shake their hands but sometimes things that you want don't always happen and you have to be grateful for what you do get. I'm happy and grateful enough for everything already. Just as I was back when I first seen them in concert, when I felt grateful enough just to have been there. Who knows, maybe your time will come for a moment that will live in you forever. I believe in devotion, and what you get in return is how grateful you feel for what you actually do get.

I’m alil late on this and lot of what I was going to say has already been covered.

I can’t wait for the DVD more so than seeing it in the theater again. I want to be able to stop pause, rewind and see the bonus material!!

I was telling Jon D that they should show it someplace that viewers can stand and dance during the movie. It truly does take you back to being at the concert but you have views from all over the arena. I couldn’t stop bopping my head, moving my feet, ready to dance in my seat and (quietly) singing along.

The Times photographer didn’t say when the article would be published because she didn’t know herself. Most likely it will be closer to the time of the theater release. I wish we were able to have the pix that she took of us because she took A LOT and she got a few of me w/ MCA.

It was nice meeting you YoungRemy, Ponce De Leon and a few others but I have a horrible memory. I’m so sorry!

I was one of the female shooters and I brought my brother with me (kid with dreads) who had an awesome time.

And if you look back in the thread of when we all posted our seats for the show, I think they just picked in order that we replied. They didn’t even get up to 50 people, it was like 37 or 38.

Cool pics! Is that you in the blue shirt? If so, I am standing next to you in almost every pic. I'm the portly bearded fellow in the cacky colored pullover with the black lines running through it.

Yes it's in today's ARts section. Front right page then continued on p E7.

PonceDeLeon is blocking me lol. I was standing next to my brother (in the yellow shirt bottom pic of p7) And the kid taking the drink, I forgot your name so sorry, but I remember you're a teacher.
