Serious question = Is there still a beef?

I am doing some work on this mixtape with MC Serch, but only recently became fully aware of this beef.

Has it been squashed?

i personally think serch still has a grudge against them but thats just me

as for the beastie boys i don't think they care

I just relistened to "Professor Booty" today after a production assistant clued me in that MCA's verse was DEFINITELY about Serch.. and it took a whole new meaning for me. Damn, Adam, came at my boy hard!!

yea thats a famous diss right there, but that was in 92' as for now in 07' i think they don't care...so the beef is probally squashed cuz a 15 year beef would be ridiculous...also i read that MC serch said once he respects them & if 3rd bass ever did another record he would probally put an apology there

Kaptain Nemo

I will give equal time if Yauch will give me a hot 16 for the track Serch is on. It could be like a PEACE deal. Its called "For the Love of Hip-Hop". This is 100% for real.

i don't think yauch would care to "officially" end the feud not now at least, prolly 15 years ago when 3rd bass was still getting play i mean even snoop dogg dissed them

I mean, I heard the 3rd Bass diss and I thought it was wack. At the time, being a young jewish/white kid into hip-hop it was weird to hear lyrical jew on jew violence.

Whatever, we probably did another bong hit and moved on... Nowadays I avoid beef like the plague. I know Michael (Serch) has grown up a lot and I'm sure the Boys have too.

I just wanted to see if I could be the brother to extend an olive branch. If not cool. I'm taking my case to Ricky Powell though, so fuck this messageboard shit.

MCA annihilated him on Professor Booty, so hard.

Its kinda one of the most under-rated diss rhymes of all time, he slaughters him without even coming close to saying his name, which is the best way.

Booty is one of my fave songs because of Yauchs verse, he slaughtered him so bad, like SO bad...

I think people are misinterpreting what he said. I think probably the Beastie Boys and the rest of the Def Jam crew probably picked on 3rd Bass when they were first starting out. I doubt it was the other way around, that would just be bizarre.

"Mike D has said before that he used to hang out with Serch and they all used to pick on him and beat him up then kick him out of where they were and make him walk home."

Prob some truth to it but thats over-exaggerated. I remember reading it too.

Anyway, whats with all the 3rd Bass disses? Great group, who cares if they had beef with the Beasties.

Does anyone know what disses were aimed at the Beasties on the Cactus CD besides on Sons Of 3rd Bass? The only one I can think of is possibly the one about the retard with tight jeans sporting a gold finger ring....?

Am I the only one here who finds this statement a little bit confusing? Who picked on whom? ;)

Speaking of dissing: when are they gonna diss Eminem in the way that MikeD-wannabe deserves it? I mean, just for cooperating with Akon...

So I guess the question arises because of the loose use of the pronoun "him". Is the "him" that "they" are beating up and kicking out Michael Diamond or Michael Berrin (MC Serch). Just another example of ill-worded miscommunication. And jew on jew violence.

For shame, cybernerds, for shame.

Hey, I'm just glad that someone remembers the group 3rd Bass and Mc Serch and the Prime Minister Pete Nice...whoa was Pete ill with the cane/staff and the cigar and the him sitting on the big leather kings' chair out on the beach in some video, Gas Face I think. They were funky and they had real intellectually solid rhymes that revealed their scholastic backgrounds. Both them and the Beasties' had English major backgrounds I believe and it comes out in their politically charged lyrics. The only other groups that match the lyrical savvy both these groups achieved is maybe Tribe, Cypress and Funkdoobiest...stupid, stupid, stupid...oh yeah.
I don't really care about the supposed situation that occurred but I am glad that the supposed rift brought back good memories for me. I saw 3rd Bass on the Arsenio Hall I think and it was a hoot. I had goose bumps watching the two of them b-boy limp around the stage and tear it up. Serch has a kind of non-athletic looking body and he was dancing and doing the running man and lifting his leg back like a quad stretch and it was hilarious.
I'm so proud of the rhymes styles, lyrical content and image of these groups, especially the Beastie Boys (all-time fav band, grade 10 air band, all kinds of merchandise, breakdancing on checkered cardboard, "root down" license plate, you name it) that they really are the only bands that can tear up that funky, flowing, real vernacular with poise. Unlike the garbage I see on rap video stations the last 10 years. Please, that sinful garbage should be censored but I'm not here to hate. Yo yo yo and three the hard way.

I gotta agree with you. Actually, my friend gave me a copy of Pete Nice's CD years ago (called "Dust to Dust" or something). I had it in my closet. I never liked it, I gave it a last listen last month, and tossed it in the garbage.

First I checked eBay to see what it was going for!

I consider Prime Minister Pete Nice to be one of the most poetic, and detailed emcees to ever grace a microphone, but that is just my humble opinion. I'm a huge fan of his. I like how he conducts his flows, his rhyme scheme, and his overall personality and appearance. I'd like for him to make a return to hiphop. I used to listen to his "Dust To Dust" solo album all the time in my car, and still do, from time to time.

I admit, I liked 3rd bass. nothing wrong about that. around here, 3rd bass had more respect from the people listening to rap at back in the day. I heard stuff like "the beastie boys are corny" and "the beastie boys are wack". 3rd bass had some good rymes and were a bit more "hardcore".

The most respected kid in my gym class in high school.... like 85 or so, had "Hold it Now Hit it" and tried to dis me saying I wouldn't understand the music. I listened to it and told him, not only were these white kids but they had a 12" callled Cookie Puss before on the same label as Agnostic Front!!! Like maybe 2 years prior.

Anyways, 3rd Bass obviously got signed to Def Jam post-Beasties and geeked out on that "beef" (nothing compared to beefs of today...) but MC Serch having a #1 records on the rap charts just kind of stands alone as a sort of accomplishment. Not to mention all of his behind the scenes influence and advocacy from everyone from O.C. to Nonphixion.

I mean, I would tell Serch in his company that MCA served him. And he's got to know it too. But he's a talented MC and a credit to hip-hop. So, everybody just step off.

Well let us not point out that the Beastie Boys early on were compared to Menudo? So were they "I wish I was Mexican"?

I think you have to take MCing as an element of hip-hop and either battle til the end on the mic or squash the beef. I understand MCA shot the last blow across the bow but it was a response to a real dis.

Cactus Album is an all time hip hop classic. And for the Serch vs Pete Nice argument? Pete Nice smokes him.

I heard or read somewhere that Serch was "given the right" to use the "n-word" by Russell Simmons back in the day, which caused a lot of controvery obviously. I can't remember where I heard this. Also read/heard that Russell created the beef by himself. He told 3rd Bass to diss the Beasties since they were now Def Jam's "white act" and he wanted to generate attention and record sales. Again, these might just be rumors.

Serch has been behind the scenes in hip-hop (and doing radio, TV etc.) since his solo joint a long time ago. Supposedly a 3rd Bass reunion is in the works? For more info. on what Serch is up to check out serchlitemusic.com

The mixtape is called THE LEGEND OF K. NEMO : Official Mixtape and is hosted by MC Serch (he also drops a hot 16 bar on a track with myself and PJ Sumroc). I did some of the beats, and some were done by Zombie Mountain. Rhymes are by your favorite submariner as well as Smitty, PJ Sumroc, Vakill (Molemen), Smitty and Serch. Also we are working with some beats from some kids from germany who post here; Das Eb and Dopey Comments.

Damn. I absolutely hated 3rd Bass with their cornyness. Dissing the boys was something but dissing Hammer and Vanilla Ice was just....

I don't know, something about easy targets. "It seems they doth protested too much" or something. It took a while for me to get over MF Doom's participation (at that time known as Sev Love X from KMD) in the Gas Face record.

I guess I took all of it a bit too personal but I was young, I loved the Beastie Boys and it all came out at a time when I thought they were doing some of their best work (Paul's Boutique).

Whatever, I forgive Doom but Serch and Pete Nice can cram it with walnuts.

Sons of 3rd Bass

"Here's my advice to all amateurs plannnnnnnning to give a performance:
speak up, and keep the act moving...

[MC Serch]
Servin the role, a sole step-child
Talk of C.C. or keep sleepin
While wakin up to noise of 3rd B-A-S-S, Bass
Success is butter for Serch's space
Spoken slang gets played like the lottery
Your lyrics are incorrect, so you step to me
lookin for the key to release that first piece
Three times two is six, Pete is one-three
I'm the other half, known as the other trey
Tourin to wild screams, the Third Son's born
Swarm to the lyrics cause Serch is your father
Screaming "Hey Ladies," why bother?

* DJ Richie Rich cuts
How can you be so stupid?

[Pete Nice]
Sons, slim ones flee from the 3rd
Words, spoken, a silver spoon stuck in the throat
Young useless, lyrically careless
Rhyme revolves around modes of mindless
If everyone spoke of stick-up, it's pick of a Beast'
prone to a lick of a waste
Taste the flav' of the original
Orphaned trio, abandoned by lyrical
Through us, the echelon exposed with the roll with no soul
Counterfeit style, born sworn and sold
out with high voice distorted
If a Beastie Boys were fetus, I'd have him ABORTED

* DJ Richie Rich cuts
How can you be so stupid?"

[MC Serch]
Put to bed, three kids to a third track
Cap the front and grip, when they heard that
the crew from the L.Q. stepped to the Club Mars
Shook the Beast' and soon to be dubbed stars
Starring roles stone-faced from the brothers
Ludicrous whining, meaning when the others
stand by em, while they take the fall
The Beast' now lives in the Capitol
Record wrecks sets, Def Jam a true wrecker
The label is nothing but MC Black'n'Decker
Three boys buggin to the A.M.
You step to the Serch and I slam!

* DJ Richie Rich cuts
How can you be so stupid?

[Pete Nice]
Negative mind, paid as snakes who can't rhyme
Play the dude? It's sucker time
I stand I take a bust in my nut
and gave birth to three bastard sons
A record label, a King to 4th letter
Passin phases, non-legitimate trendsetters
Pop figures, who figured they'd get paid
Exploitin art the black man made
Played out hardcore flaws, step to stage
Your biggest fan, nine years of age
Broke out cause the swindler took your ducat
No talent on the tune, you might as well SUCK IT

* DJ Richie Rich cuts
How can you be so stupid?

[Nice] Yo Serch, you know about that slum I'm speakin on?
[Serch] Word is bond Pete, school em!
[Nice] You know about that silver spoon havin'
buckshot acne showin, L.A. weak-ass sellout
Non-legitimate, tip-doggin, Jethro pseudo intellectual
Dust-smokin', pretty boy playwrite posin'
Folks wiggin, whinin annoyin Def Jam reject devils
White bread no money havin slum village people clonin'

First of all, it's a terrible diss and one of the worst 3rd Bass tracks. Second of all, Serch has already apologized in the media and called the Beasties "brilliant." And third, this was from 1989! Get over it!

It's like Jay Z fans hating Nas for dropping Ether. Ether was a hot record! I'm a huuuuge Beastie Boys fan, Licensed To Ill was my first record back in 1992 when I was 7 years old. But that doesn't mean I have to hate 3rd Bass for a stupid track they did almost twenty years ago.

Hahaha. Well...I stole it out of the back of a junk car (my family owns a junkyard) and it was Licensed To Ill inside a Neil Diamond jewel case. So I took the cassette out of the back to give to my dad, mainly cuz hes a huge Neil Diamond fan. So I go home and pop it in, and I'm like "YO NEIL DIAMOND IS AWESOME!" I proceeded to give it to my dad who was like "what the fuck is this shit? Here, you can have it." And ever since that day I've been a life-long die hard Beastie Boys fan. True story.

I think 3rd Bass were heavily influenced by Def Jam to diss the Beasties. They built it up in their heads, and out came the diss track. Most particularly, Russell Simmons must've been said influence. That's my speculation, though. I'm not a big Serch fan, but Pete Nice rocks.

True story.

lmao!!! I did the same thing with my brothers old cheech and chong tapes! you know its good when they start to curse!

Im sure DEF JAM was a major influence on them dissin them, but remember, the beasties were considered "soft" to in comparison to the hardcore rapper. so, after jumping ship, 3rd bass felt that they abandoned a major rap label and should be dealt with.

To all the people posting old lyrics and such...

Let's just envision a future where 3rd Bass and Beastie Boys could both be on the same stage in a future Hip-Hop Hall of Fame.

A lot of you say a lot of shit about race... fucking let it go, brothers and sisters.

Race, like gender, is a function of these temporary bodies we all occupy. Start talking about the transcendance of time and space (and race) like Dr. T. Leary and I'll believe you that you can see clearly. Like RCF.

Much respect to the 3, who always held their own. Adrock, Mike D and MCA. Much love from the Kapt.

Reminds me of the time, years ago, when my grandma wanted me to copy some pop songs for her. I used one of my blank cassettes with Geto Boys songs on them and recorded on ONE SIDE. I gave her the tape and a day or so later she puts in the tape in her walkman on her way to work and was horrified at all the constant 'eff words'
She was listening to the side with the Geto Boys.

It's hard to let it go because the Boys haven't been involved in many lyrical beefs. 3rd Bass' diss was pretty darn bad. I know back in the day that would be considered "hardcore" but come on. MCA's retalliation was far from the best response to a diss, but his stuff blew theirs up in their faces!

but the THE CACTUS ALBUM was heard by many more rap fans than the last beastie album.

Going back and reading this, why the hell should 3rd Bass be in any Hall of Fame? They were around for 2 years. They were only signed so Def Jam could replace their resident white rap artists.

"The Cactus Album" has a handful of good songs but it don't even compare to the Beastie Boys worst album.
