Just got tickets (stubhub.com), dress circle front row, left center right next to center section. Anyone else on the board flying to/going to this gala event?
Hopefully, another show will be added in the DC area, too.

Where are you looking to stay? Do you want to stay in Boston? It can be quite pricey to stay intown. Before I lived in the city I stayed at the Copley Square Hotel. Let me know if you need help finding someplace!

i've stayed in boston overnight for concerts before, and both times i stayed at the ramada in dorchester http://netopiadesigncenter.com/bostonhotel/hotelhome/
i think its $140 a night. its right outside of the city and there's a free shuttle that brings you to the subway station (until 11pm, if later then u just have to call them)
ha, and my seats are also row AA of the dress circle, left center section (seats 9&10 i think)

i stayed at a sheraton right outside of boston for $80 a night. i would think they have shuttles too?

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I do want to stay downtown and I'm between two choices right now, based on their availability and convenience (location)....the nine zero and the ritz. The only hotel I've stayed at previously in Boston was the Hilton (Boston Financial Center). Seems a lot of the hotels around Copley Square are just booked solid.

I'm going solo to both the Gala and regular shows in Boston. If anyone is game for meeting up for dinner/drinks beforehand let me know! There are a bunch of great restaurants right near the Opera House in Downtown Crossing.

There are many great restaurants right around the Opera House. I've eaten at Ivy which is Italian...not super dressy...more casual elegant I guess is what they say. Also eaten at Mantra which is French/Indian. I must say the hostess was a bit snotty there though.
Anyone willing to invite me along to there pre-gig party feel free!! ;)
Marlene
07-09-2007, 11:48 PM
i'm definitely up for some pre-gala drinks!
Mantra looks interesting.....not sure if I can eat there, but will ask them if they have a vegan options for their vegetarian entrees.
also, i know this is a girly question, but what are you guys wearing? i'm kind of up in the air about how dressy/formal i'm going to be.
Casey D

ORCCTR row J dead center (thanks itunes)
now I know its a gala event, but how strict is the dress code? like am I supposed to wear a full suit complete with dress shoes?
I was planning on wearing some khakis with a buttondown shirt (tucked in) and a tie. footwear would be some AF-1's
that seems fine for a beastie boys gala right?
Marlene
07-10-2007, 12:02 AM
i'm undecided whether to wear a formal dress or to wear black formal suit pants with a dressy blouse..... i've gone to the symphony in jeans before (music for the masses, etc.), but when going to opera i dress up a bit, but not super formal.....that said i'm more excited to go to this gala than any opera i've seen before, so maybe super formal would be appropos?
i've heard that generally people get very dressed up to go to the Boston Opera House, fwiw......but, Casey D since you live in Boston, maybe you and NicRN77 can clue the rest of us in?
Casey D
07-10-2007, 12:12 AM
well, I have only been in boston for a year, I go to school here so I am not really sure
Marlene
07-10-2007, 12:22 AM
i think it will probably be a mix of what you described wearing and perhaps people wearing more formal attire.
i wouldn't sweat the suit, especially since you are a student and probably don't have suits lining your closet.

Hey guys. I went to see Damien Rice at the Opera House back in May and I just wore jeans. No one dressed up. I've seen a couple plays there, Movin' Out and Hairspray and I think I just wore nice dress pants and a shirt. I plan on dressing up a little bit...but not super formal. I have this dress I wore to my friend's wedding rehearsal I may just wear that. It is dressy but not too dressy. Still feels weird to be dressing up for a Beastie show!
Marlene-are you attending the show alone? I think we should definetley all meet up beforehand.

I'll be down from Portland early eve and looking to get together with B-persons. Im not so sure how formal you have to get for the Gala....never mind the Opera House formal premise....I caught a few nights of the White Stripes there a year or so ago and it was super casual. I think the Boys are looking for pimp attire more than Formal wear....but i'v been out of the loop, but thats how the TT5B tour went. It was more who could be more outrageous in thier attire.
I plan on keeping my drinks formal and keepin the rest feelin fresh.
I may also have an xtra, and it should be right up front...and i'd like to keep it in the family if i do...I'll let ya know.
We ate at some dumpy rest/pub across the street before...not bad for a quick drink preshow..but the food sucked. Obviously forgot the name. But we neeed more suggestions..
WhoMoi?
07-10-2007, 09:18 PM
I saw Guster there a couple months ago and it was casual attire - jeans, etc. When I saw the ballet there, people dressed up a little more...no jeans or sneakers type of thing.
So the dress code for the Opera House just depends on the event...and it seems that the Beastie Boys want us to step it up a little. So I'm thinking just a little more formal than your usual concert attire, at the least. Or go totally overboard to impress! :D
There are definitely lots of options for dining around there! For casual places to eat, Rock Bottom (brewery/restaurant), P.F. Chang's, and Legal Seafood are all nearby. Jakob Wirth's is near there too...I've never been there but heard it's good, and can be a dress-down or dress-up spot. I've heard good things about Ivy and Mantra too, and a wine bar/restaurant called Vinalia.

i just recieved my tickets in the mail today! i can't believe it says "dress to impress" on them.

I'm in the Mezzanine too, row BB. Going to the show solo isn't so bad. I went to the last BBoys show in Worcester in 2004 alone. Met up with some really cool guys before the show for some drinks. I was sitting next to someone who also was there alone. Going to a concert solo is a whole different experience!

Is there a "pit" section for this show? I see tix for sale labled as such. Anyone know the seating deal for this place..hard to tell from the seating charts.
I just got my tix today and i swear the seat numbers are sequential, but not 100% as i left them at work..They are for the orchestra sect.
Who's going Monday night? woo woo! Have yet to see any discussion on BBoys second night in Boston.

I’ve got two tickets to sell for the Boston Gala Event on Aug 05th. My sister said she was coming to town then flaked on me.
Two seats together in MEZZLC, Row J, on the center aisle. I’m letting them go for face value. $150 for the pair, I won't split them up.
I’m going to the show too, I’m happy to meet you before the show and we can go in together (you can go in first!) just to prove the tickets are for real.
Email me at statler73@yahoo.com if you’re interested.
alright, i've decided to go to the boston gala event (what with me living here and never having seen the beasties live and all, figured i ought to)
i guess i'm sitting in section ORCHRC, row I, seat 2, wherever that is. i haven't printed out the tickets or anything, i don't have a printer, i'm gonna do that elsewhere, some other time.
anyway, i'm looking forward to it. i'm up for drinks or something beforehand or afterhand, or any other hand. i'm going to the show on my own, may as well socialize a little bit, you know

Is there any way you can go by yourself? I go by myself quite often and I ALWAYS meet lovely people at the show. I promise you will have a great time.
Invite two other people with crappy seats to come sit up front with you. In fact, invite Bob to sit with you. You've got his seat number right in this thread.

Given that Documad was one of the cool people I hung with when I was on my own at one of the shows in Paris, I second the thought. You will have fun and meet a lot of interesting people.
It's actually a lot of fun because you will meet fans and the people you will meet in your great seats will probably be great fans.

lrf, you're very sweet! I was alone at that show and I'm so glad that I met you!
It's killing me that people don't want to use seats up front at a seated show! I had an extra ticket in Vegas and I sold it to a great local guy while I was waiting in line.
By the way, Stereo Total (the opening act that night) is coming to a club here. I couldn't believe it. I'm going to talk my friends into seeing them. :p

Greetings from Woosta. I'm a little peeved that it took 2+ days to get my membership here approved. I only found out I was going to the concert on Friday, which is when I found out about this forum. I would've loved to have chatted and met up with you guys... seems like a cool bunch. :D
This was my first BB concert. A friend won tix of the radio and invited me along. We were in orchestra, smack in the middle of the stage, I think it was row "L"... it was only a row or 2 under the balcony. Found a meter, walked, and got in about 7ish. People watching was fun for the first 45 minutes, but damn, I thought the concert was actually going to start at 7:30! The people around us were decent, except for some dillweed which I'll refer to as "Paxton" (if he's reading this, he'll know why). He was right behind me and out of control... somehow he kept bumping into my backside (was he crawling over the seats or something?) and nitpicking what everyone else in the theater was doing or wearing, at one point even referring to the "nerds" in the mezzanine. The dope even had the balls to tap me on the shoulder and ask if I "even like this band", because I was able to stand up on my own 2 feet and not stumbling all over the place.
Other than that crock, everything was great. Awesome ratio of new stuff to old stuff, although anything off of Hello Nasty keeps me happy. Some of the hardcore/heavy jams just doesn't do it for me, but luckily that was kept to a minimum, and short! (y)
Nicole, if only I had known that was you in the B&W dress, I probably would've said hi. I couldn't remember what anyone else was wearing, but I thought I recalled you saying something about a Red Sox hat and a splint. I saw the splint but no BOS hat! :p
I wonder which of the 3 radio stations (maybe more? I counted AAF, BCN and FNX) won the sticker fight outside at the end.
Walking by the Wang, I noticed Buble was playing... last time I checked, he wasn't playing around here until later on in the year down at one of the casinos. Good thing I didn't know, or else I probably would've ended up there! I'm glad I had this opportunity to go though. I'll definitely go again.
