So my oldest girl just turned 7. she wanted to have a Beastie Boys themed party and all she wanted was a BB CD for her hello Kitty CD Player and the Toy Story Barbie. I tried to convince to get a Wii, we still play the game cube, and she said no she wanted the above.
She settled for Scooby Doo themed party, but what BB CD could I get my 7 year old? Well off the grid or in sounds from the way out were an easy guess, but I know my girl would be sad about that. Like asking for a piece of candy and getting a sugar free piece of whatever. My point is, she likes the lyrics and she likes the music, but a CD of just Music for her as her one and only BBoy CD was not an option I considered.
Finally I realized, I had to burn my own cd, so at work, I popped in the SD card of all my CDs and selected a play list and Ava’s CD was in the production phase.
I spent about 3 minutes making the CD, Maybe I should have spent more time selecting songs and the order, and then that night a drew with sharpies all the titles and some images on the cd itself.
So here is the play list….
Skillz to pay the billz
Body movin” .. fatboy slim version
Slow and Low
Gratitude
So What’cha want
Super disco breakin
The move
The grasshopper unit
Song fot junior
I don’t know
The negotiation limerick file
Unite
Sure shot
Alright hear this
Flute loop
Off the grid
The kangaroo rat
The sounds of science
Car thief
An open letter to nyc
One more note about AVA … I was watching home Video a few weeks ago and was watching some X-mas video where my wife got the new John Mayer CD with waiting for the world to Change. Ava got a Basketball hoop for the playroom; she was probably4 at the time. I was getting video of her jumping of the couch and doing slam dunks. I put John Mayer in the player and she stops and looks at me and starts yelling, no put the Beastie Boys in … So my point is I did not force this on her, and mom has even tried to get her into other music. She has a verity of music she likes, but I am pretty sure the kids at the playground will tell you Ava likes the Beastie Boys. PS I call the Video John Mayer vs the Beastie Boys…

You'll let your 7-year old listen to
"Some static started in the pool hall,
hit a motherfuckers face with the cue ball,
then I met this girl she tried to gank me,
So I smacked her in the pooty with a plank bee . . .
People always trying to get next to me,
I had a beautiful experience on ecstasy,
Smoked up a bag of elephant tranquilizer,
Because I had to deal with a money hungry miser,
Had a caine filled cool with my man Russ Rush,
Saw my teeth fall in the sink when I started to brush,
You be doing nose candy on the Bowie coke mirror,
My girl asked for sume but I pretended not to hear her,
You cant deny me you always want to try me,
Yo you're just gonna get your ass kicked
Homeboy throw in the towel
Your girl got dicked by Ricky Powell"
Fuck it, you might as well buy her an NWA album an call it day.

Alright hear this also contains lyrics about fucking up a mic.
If you're trying to avoid explicit songs then you need to revise your list. But if you're cool with profanities, then I would just go ahead and get her a full-length album, i.e. Hello Nasty or Check Your Head. Albums are albums for a reason, y'know?

I've got the "clean versions" of IC and TT5B. So those are on regular rotation for the kids...

I imagine Simply Mortified would be big hit with kids. And The Scrappy sort of ties in with Scooby Doo, too.

From personal experience I can tell you that Intergalactic is 7-friendly and a big hit, Girls if they are still young enough to not understand what that song is really saying, No Sleep.... if same reasons as Girls, Shake Your Rump because of the Shake Your Rump part, Brass Monkey, Fight....., New Style and Paul Revere; I guess I just answered the question LTI, so long as they are young enough to really not get what some of that stuff is.
Car Thief on that list is pretty damn funny.
Your comment about I Aint the One is even funnier.

Well you can play her the b-side on Eazy-E - Eazy Duz it. Those are all clean versions, although the subject matter might confuse her. I agree though that some of those songs are inappropriate for little kids.
Go to walmart and buy her the new eminem cd. They only stock clean versions. Thats where I got TT5B for my friends kid.

Original Body movin is 100 times better than the Fatboyslim version.
Your kid will never forvige you that when she'll realize it. It's not too late...

Word up. Always loved body movin, to the point where I never even asked why or really payed attention to it's intricacies, until recently. The remix is really cool the first time you hear it, but then gets a little worse each listen after.

that was when fatboy slim remixed anything, loads of tunes got thrown his way and it all got very formulaic and body movin was a big victim of that. not one of his best. Mind you ,the BBoys returned the favour, their mix of "Praise You" is pretty weak.
also, this thread reminded me of this:

I want to say that the original body movin is by far the best, but the little one love the video, so I put the remix on the cd. It is so funny when MCA's head gets cut off, great stuff for the kids.

You know for a long time I always thought I really preferred the remix of it but years later I've changed my tune. I really much prefer the BB's version. It has more attitude and represents the guys more, too bad not more have been able to hear it unless they bought the album of course.

Totally! My sister's kid was so into that song when Hello Nasty came out, he was even scratching it on a cd-player! I was, like, "how the heck did you do that?" And he was about 6 or 7 at the time...

Licensed To Ill. That's how old I was when I started listening to it and I've never looked back.

Explicit lyrics are not going to damage a child's development in any way. If anything sheltering them from everything will fuck them up more.
Good list, but you forgot Picture This.
