I think it is positive for particular things, and for me those things are the new songs. The main feature I won't comment on.

As far as the quality of the film.....it is what it is. But, as a whole.....it's genius to me. It's the bboys doing what they do.....which is some other shit that nobody else has thought of.
You've got the long form vid with all the cameos, which is cool because like other's have said, they embrace the def jam era. They also touch on the subject (albeit lightheartedly) of what would have happened if they never changed. All that is cool, but that ALONG with the short form, it's just a great idea. Then, using it as an avenue to release new music, publicize the album, and get major airtime on all the music channels. Bravo Bboys. It's very creative marketing. They are doing something BRAND NEW. And they are doing it on their own terms, by themselves.
BRAVO BEASTIE BOYS
I gave it 4 stars but should've gave it 5 based on the reasons in the above post.

I gave it 5 stars and pshabi you said a lot of what I was thinking! Their way of marketing themselves is very original and unlike anybody else and it's been that way from the beginning. I mean all these years they have been around and I've yet to see any band put so much creativity into their work as a whole. You usually get an album, promotion and a tour. Beasties take it to a whole other level. Plus the fact that they have enough talent/abilities among the three of them ALONE that at the end of the day they can pull off the entire thing without the having to hire ANYBODY but themselves.
Anyway I agree that they touched on all of the highlights of their career and wrapped it up really well in the end. I keep thinking about the License to Ill home video with the cops coming in breaking up the party and then they are whisked away in the cop car. It's so damn funny!
And again if I can reiterate they aren't out to make a video that's going to please the masses. I always liked MCA's quote years ago that they will always make music that they LOVE and if everybody else ends up liking it then GREAT.

It was a hell of a lot more entertaining than I was expecting. It's exciting to see them embrace inspired nuggets of right-out WTF-ness, like the nitrous balloon, the stabbing, the pissing contest, and the general mayhem. The Beastie Boys of the 'Alive' video would be shocked by such behavior.
I also thought it was pretty well-paced for a Nathaniel Hornblower production.

The sneakers Seth was rocking are remakes.
Mike always wore the Ewing "Conductor" Adidas High Tops all white with the orange and blue piping.
I had a couple pair in the 80's.

3 stars. It's wicked entertaining... I really enjoyed it. I especially love how much they are making fun of themselves in this. and the druggy effects are awesome. But the ending was 'meh' [why didn't they at least play the "SABOTAGE COPS" if they were gonna show up as cops?] and I really only laughed three or four times.
so even though I loved it. 3 stars. Better than most videos I've seen in a while. but did't knock my socks off. Solid idea and production though.
I might come back later and change this to 4 starts... shit.

Totally. He's the only one actually acting!
Wood was the best in my opinion. He did the best 'imitation' while rapping, for sure. It is obvious that he took it seriously and watched some Adrock performances to get the movements/gestures down. The other guys were good, but not doing imitations. I don't think that Seth Rogan can actually play anyone except Seth Rogan. He is the same in everything he does.
The film was weird and fun, and had a ton of people and great references in it, but the ending is very anticlimactic. Unfortunately the end takes away from the rest of the film. My friends were laughing and enjoying it until the end, where they were like "What was that?".

I have to give it 5 stars, never in my life (I am 40) have I watched a music video 10 plus times in a single day , I don't keep track but I am pretty sure the record before F.F.Y.R.R. was 4 or 5 times at the most.
Awesome video, it deserves an Academy Award for the best music video of the year. Thanks Beastie Boys, I appreciate your work on this video.
I will have Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2 on release day and be rocking it hard on my pretty capable system (http://i136.photobucket.com/albums/q186/bentvalve/81728.jpg?t=1303520056).

It was fucking great. Loved it, it will go down as another moment of genius by the boys. Im rating it a 4/5 because Seth Rogen really couldn't hang with Elijah Wood in terms of rapping to the camera. Thats about the only negative I could think of here.

i really liked it - but its really a treat for Beastie's fanatics. I think non-Beastie's obsessives would just find it ok, good enough. I thought it was great though - nicely odd and bonkers.
I found the bit in the limo and the dance fight really laugh out loud funny. I don't know why but the whole Bon Jovi groupies chicks bit was the highlight.
Also seeing a Buddhist wield a police baton with such fury was funny....
But it is a genius piece of promotion. Over the past few weeks since the trailer hit its been all over blogs and Twitter. A Beasties album usually gets a fair amount of attention (they are one of the few groups that are able to get this so many years after they started) but there's always the fear they'll slip out of the mainstream consciousness. But this clip was being tweeted around by everyone, even the most casual fan of the Beasties (and just music fans in general). Great promotion - there's little doubt now a new Beasties record is imminent.
5/5
the limo scene is great!

its brilliant. getting the lino off the delorean was magic. there is a sentence i thought i would never use. really funny, i was worried that somebody might phone one in but it was a great idea well done. And as a promo it works cos i havent stopped thinking about the music all day. danny mcbride just about edged it in terms of top performance

Fuck him. Takes two to tango. Shouldn't have to crawl up a hill to get him involved. If he's down he can make it known.
EDIT: in the very least, the film obviously portrays what happened after the video. His character would still be upstairs with the rest of them.
I loved it.
It's like MJ reached down from heaven holding aloft the 'celebrity cameo in my music video mantle' and the beasties jumped up, grabbed it and made this.

If this were my poll 5 stars would have been the least stars and 10 stars would be the upper end. Ditto. All of my faves have Yauch but I can't help that, it's just what I like. Although there are other bits I enjoy...
Cowbell car scene with Ferrel. All of the funky angles of him standing on the car was so damn funny. I couldn't stop laughing.
The whole pie conversation at the beginning was great.
Ad-Rock's from the future and his lines with the whole challenge to the dance off.
Johnny Ryall's facial expressions!
Beer can throw in the beginning. Who's the actor again? He was great!
Metal Chicks, Bon Jovi limo discussion...
I loved loved loved the way Yauch SLOWED down the music and sped it back up again and the actors I thought did really great on that too.
So yeah loads of funny stuff but the hot dog sequence and then the real Yauch bopping him on the back with the police baton was perfect!
I am sure there is more, but those moments stand out to me! :p

It was awesome seeing all the cameos, but it coulda been a little better IMO. I enjoyed the actual "music video" parts, spider-man does a good Adrock. The unscripted comedy was a little out of control, just too much dialogue leading nowhere that wasn't all that funny. There were moments of comedy I did enjoy though(the restaurant scene, what up Steve Buschemi!). I guess i just really wasn't feeling the dance-off scene, i guess i just didn't get it when they started peeing on each other...
