I love it!!!!!!!

The new Beastie Boys video, “Fight For Your Right Revisited,” features smashed glass, erupting beer cans and more celebrity cameos than a season of “Entourage” and “Sesame Street” combined.

Last night in New York, a big-screen showing of the full 30-minute version of the video (or is it a short film?) was a much quieter affair by comparison. At the IFC Center in Greenwich Village–where Beastie Boys was misspelled on the marquee—a theater filled with the trio’s friends, family and colleagues. Two of the Beasties were on hand. Adam Horovitz (Ad-Rock), wearing a dark suit and a bright red ski cap, and Adam Yauch (MCA), looking like an urban hayseed with a long white beard and a necktie -cowboy hat combo, introduced the video with remarks that lasted about eight seconds.

The video, various versions of which have been rolling out on TV and online, is simultaneously high concept and low brow. The Beastie Boys circa 1986 (played by Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, and Elijah Wood), tangle with future versions of themselves (John C. Reilly, Jack Black, and Will Ferrell) in the midst of a beer-spraying, acid-dropping rampage that features a parade of famous faces, from Stanley Tucci to Amy Poehler. A dance-off between the ersatz Beasties culminates with (and this would be a spoiler alert if it wasn’t so ridiculous) an actual pissing match, complete with drenching, slow motion sprays.

After the lights went up Yauch talked about the video in a brief interview. The rapper, who has overseen many of the group’s videos and runs the indie film company Oscilloscope Laboratories, wrote and directed the “absurd” footage to accompany the new single “Make Some Noise.” “Normally the song is king and the footage has to kind of bow down to it. With this I flipped it,” he said, explaining how he used sound effects and toyed with the track’s tempo to fit the narrative, such as it is.

Orlando Bloom, who surfaces briefly as a squeegee man in the video, stepped up to offer high praise, especially for the urination battle featuring his “Lord of the Rings” co-star. “Yes, Elijah does have an exceptionally high-powered spray,” remarked Yauch, whose own Gandalf-ish beard partially covered a dark scar on his neck, evidence of his ongoing fight with a cancer discovered about two years ago in his salivary gland. The group’s ninth album, “Hot Sauce Committee Part Two,” is due May 3.

Yauch’s mother came over with a review of her son’s performance in the video: “I loved you as a cop.” But she did have a quibble. “I don’t know why they got that big burly guy to play you,” she said, referring to stout Danny McBride, or perhaps stocky Jack Black.

“That’s my fault,” Yauch said. “I cast him.”
