y'know, after giving it what I would call the first 'proper' listen (I don't count the MSG spin) over the boomin system tonight, I most definitely liked it, but have some sure reservations about it as well.

while the leaked version is still pretty shitty quality, it's an overall really sloppy sounding record, even by their standards (they've always kinda had a raw, thrown together type feel). the high moments are high, and the low ones aren't devastating, but there are some questionable points no doubt.

for instance, I find there were quite a few moments that were intended as breaks, so to say, that really were just kinda sparse and anticlimactic. for a group known for their dense layering, I was just a little disappointed in the lack thereof in some jams. too loopy sounding at some points. not like I expect to have my mind blown every 25 seconds, but there are some noticeable dead spaces.

once again, the leak is shite quality, but I also noticed some imbalance between mix qualities. some sounded real solid, wherein a couple of them, or elements within them, we're strangely discombobulated. i'm confident alotta these choices will make more sense come official release, i hope.

loved the over-use of effects. the dub influence was certainly a star player in this outing. vocals were on point as fuck (maybe one too many pop references from Mike though). really didn't feel the guest name-dropping at the beginnings of TMU and DPNGTICW. I find that kind of cheap, like the guest is a selling point that needs to be pointed out immediately. i know this wasn't the logic behind such, but that's just how it sounds.

am i being hyper-critical? without a doubt. will I spin this record endlessly and enjoy it? definitely. are these observations subject to change? very much so. the first listen of a highly anticipated album is always really weird. it's always the things that you don't expect that stick out the most, y'know? it's the most exciting since HN, IMO. i do feel strongly this one's gonna age nicely. i look forward to the proper drop.

I ain't regretting a thing. The quality isn't bad at all, imo. It's not A+ but it beats the shit out of the mp3 rip I had of the MSG party. This version definitely breathed new life into this thing for me. Hot shit.

Not DL it yet but I did notice it has been leaked. It does say 320kbps tho, which shouldn't be a bad quality.

It's a shame stuff like this is inevitable. I mean, I don't believe many people will download it and not buy it - if they was never gonna pay for it anyway, the worst thing they've had against them is the free exposure. But it is a shame the system is broken that we'd of heard it before it's intention.
