Where is the line exactly? Because I think it might be buried under all this crap.
So I'm packing to move and it has come to my attention that I may have a serious psychological problem.
But more importantly, what the hell am I going to do with all this crap?!

Sell it as a job lot - you won't get as much money as it's all worth if you could be bothered to sell them manually but when I last moved house, I did that and got about £100 for £300 of stuff if split into ebay. Which might sound like a big difference but think to yourself, are you really gonna do that at any point and if you are, why haven't you already. All that messing about of taking photos answering questions on each item and posting them. Fudge that ship.

I started a box for each of my friends of stuff to give to them. But as far as selling anything, I doubt I'll ever do it. I've been playing around on this board all night instead of sorting anything.
I'm moving to a much smaller place overseas so I really need to downsize. But the hard part is that I don't want to! It's my crap and I love it!

Once you get to the stage of being pissed off with it all you'll be "right, had enough, all this crap is going"

To help speed along into that state, give yourself a headache - you could do this by not drinking water so you're dehydrated. Put some really bad music on loud, call somebody you hate or who you know will wind you up.

Where you moving from to?

I always hit the Salvation Army when I move - not only do you get to purge, you help other people (y)

Board member presents?

Awesome idea.

We could send you a stamped address envelope of various sizes and you could just put whatever inside an envelope that fits.

oof, I have tons of stuff, but I used to have even more. the last time I moved, I got rid of about a room's worth of things and tons of furniture. It feels great. I'm realizing that hooks and baskets work better for me for storing clothes than dressers, and I kinda wanna get a bunch of awesome pillows and make a squishy rug to hang out on rather than a couch. I still have a lot of junk, but I forced myself to keep on things I absolutely loved, or could have resale value. Also, man, this idea really helped me: take pictures of the stuff that you want to remember, but really have no need for. Even if you do nothing with the pictures, it sort of just commemorates the thing and you can move on. ha. least that's what happened to me.

My mom is very neat and organized, which I think leads to her having more stuff in general. She moved cross country a few years ago, and had a huge truck, a minivan and her car. Plus, my friend and I spent over $300 on shipping boxes out there for her because they wouldn't fit.

I used to think that it was just because she was an adult and had a lot of stuff...but really, the stuff was 90% useless, and she has since tried to rid herself of most of it. and now she's definitely way less stressed out than she used to be. also she's not married to a jerk anymore.

I think the only way to sustain a thing-filled life is to make a lot of money so you can pay someone to organize and transport it when you have to move. or just never move.

good luck! (maybe try the picture thing?)

I didn't realise how much stuff I had until everything had to moved from my parents. Although I was mid twenties I still had a base there, it's amazing how much childhood stuff I kept. My mum kept stuff to but that was more memories of our childhoods and it's amazing that she did - I guess that is what parents do.

Anyway, something I try to do but fail at is one in two out. Like a new CD would mean getting rid of two older one, a new book means two books gone, games etc.

If I get a new phone or whatever then I try and make sure I sell my old one asap. I'm gonna be moving again soon I think and this is the first time I've moved into an unfurnished place, now I'll have furniture I've bought to move to.

Proabbly enough that makes you post a thread wondering if you're a hoarder.

Anything good? You wouldn't happen to have a blender for Echewta would you? I would like a George Foreman grill, a Turbo Man action figure, and any Bryan Adams cassettes that you might have.

Mmmmky?

Thanks a million.
