Forgive me if I have missed some news somewhere, but was Mix Master Mike not part of the new album? I havent heard his name mentioned in any of the songs...

He did his part, though I don't see his name in the credits. They did credit the King of Lunch and the Prince of Sides.

Actually I don't think Mix Master Mike is on the album. I mean check the fine print.

He's not in the credits, but I have seen a few reviews/articles about the album and they mention him being a part of it.

They haven't had a falling out or anything. Personally, I'm happy to hear the boys take up turntable duties again.

Word. The lumberjack DJ Adrock and MCA were always nice on the wheels. MMM is great, but he's just too technical. I like the styles the Boys use better. But I don't think I heard one "Rocket in the Pocket" scratch on the album. They're usually good for at least one!

I can't listen at work so for those who can't hear it, I ask you to just come out and "Say It...let it out, let it out"

That host is a disaster, he doesn't deserve to interview the fackin Backstreet Boys no less the Beasties.

I like Mix Master Mike but I think the Beasties don’t really need him to thrive. I think I already made a comment that I didn’t 100% like his technique either. Not say he isn’t good but too technical I think is exactly how I feel too. If that is the guys doing the scratching then I’ll do a big SQUEE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Anyway I wanted to also add that they are definitely still cool with him. I mean photos came out just a few weeks ago with Ad-Rock and Mix Master Mike together. He just might have his own schedules now and Beasties aren’t performing anytime soon anyway so who knows what will happen.

Beastie Boys albums are about the Beastie Boys. Do your own cuts, by all means.
Beastie Boys shows would NEVER be the same without MMM. I'm sure they'd say the same thing.

MMM is their LIVE DJ not so much the studio DJ.
Thats my guess.

damn, why are 90% of all radio DJs raging nerds? and not like hip, savvy nerds; just straight up thorough-bread nerds.

Had MMM been on any album really? I'm sure he had a lot on TT5B, but besides Three MC's on HN I thought Adrock handeled the wheels?
Side note I really hope when MCA is better and they tour MMM doesnt do his MMM thing and mess with the new tracks

LOL what happened?
Also want to add I do LIKE MMM and I agree them having a DJ with the live show really makes things complete. Album wise though if its just them then I think that rocks!

I hate to admit but this album beats the formulaic sound of TT5B -
Felt like 3/4s into every track was MMM's scratch routine.
Granted I love his skills/scratching - but it was predictable.
I think the Boys are trying to balance it out - less scratch routine/instrumentals because of TT5B/MU.

I've been scratching records for about 15 years now, and I can def say that you plateau very quickly in your ability to create unique sounding scratches....I don't know any DJ who can create new sounds...some handle the standards better than others...those that can innovate do so at such a technical level that only scratch nerds can tell the difference. Kind of like watching half pipe on the xgames and trying to decipher the difference from one loopey loo flipperoo to another...its so beyond technical these days that the laymen can't tell them apart.
I do enjoy the odd scratch cut...ala Time To Build/The Brouhaha! On HN MMM was able to add some fun sound to mixes of the songs, not just the breaks....that part is not on this record...which makes sense...time to switch up/back to the roots.
In any event...if you want some basic cuts....that really do work..then the boys got it covered...if you want to pay proper respects to the element of DJin....then its probably best to pass the decks to MMM.

I did not miss MMM on this record for a split second. The scratch routines on TT5B got very old, very quickly. Its like my man a few posts up said, it was so formulaic. Did not add anything to the song at all, they just built to a MixMasterMike scratch break.

During the TT5B tour, they flipped the old tracks and played the new tracks straight. He might embellish with sounds and scratches and different scratch routines but he mostly played them straight.
If they do tour, I can see MMM doing the same thing.

i can relate to both sides, sure the MMM parts on TT5B were formulaic, but that was in song structure, not in execution. not his fault. also, formulaic was a somewhat new endeavor for the bboys, so in a way it was still kinda new and fresh. on the other hand, yeah it was kinda stiff and premeditated. I certainly preferred his work on HN a bit more.
I would never scoff at MMM being on a bboy record. he adds more than he damages, and anyone who argues that is insane. though it's dope when they do their own cuts too, for obvious reasons. a win-win situation people. definitely nice to have a break from virtuosity and a return of rawness, though eventually he will make a welcome return also.

Well if Yauch says his DJ is Mix Master Mike who am I to argue with him? Never lol! I mean again on the record it’s cool that they did like most of it, I love that when its just them. As for live shows they have to rap and so they need a DJ anyway so MMM will definitely come back I am sure when it’s time to TOUR!!!!!

Don't front. Mix Master Mike WILL mess with these tracks when they finally tour, and you will all fucking love it...picture him mixing in that Bug remix halfway through Make Some Noise and then just tearing it up...
I can't wait to see what he'll do with this new album live...it's gonna be a free for all...and it's gonna be NOICE. All the BS2000 sounding production with some crazy bass and scratching will just be unbelievably funky.
You know it. Mix Master's scratchin' /like he's got lice/ or crabs/...and yo that aint nice!
