Yeah, I think most people would agree that it wouldn't be much of a fight
Controversial...hmmmm
I'm going to have to go with the classic - it has far more memorable lines. Yauch literally kills on that track, and it benefits from all four mc's being in the studio at once whereas TMR's is a separate studio, different time thang. It sounds more disjointed for it.

A classic G-son chilling, smoking and b-ball freestyle session with a hip-hop roots pioneer at the height of his powers.
OR
A kind of forced-sounding, tossed around concept project with somebody who fell off 10 years ago (and sounds like it).
Hmm, a difficult one...

They didn't record all their parts at the same time if that's what you're implying. The B-Boys incorporated their rhymes around Tip's freestyle.
If you wasn't. My bad.

True that, an Q-Tip is my second fav rapper to Adrock so Get It Together wins this one for me.

Yes. "Get It Together" also has the added advantage of coming out during The Beastie Boys' Best Year Ever.

Funny comparison. A song that some of us have known and loved for 17 years, which wasn't subjected to the easy criticism of the internet age when it dropped, versus something new which is a big 'get' in collaboration terms, and is musically a much different beast altogether.
Of course we know and love Get it Together, and rightfully so. But Too Many Rappers is a battle track. The B-Boys don't battle on mic skills alone, which is fair enough. They battle on the fact they're the B-Boys and you're not. Something which leaps out at me on Too Many Rappers and conjures up some weird shit in my mind as a result.
My mind reels through every possible scrap of footage I've ever seen of the band's history when I hear it. When I hear "if you got something on your mind, let it out!" I see Adrock at the VMAs in 99. "Reminisce, when I miss" takes my mind to Mike D in Netty's Girl, crying in that ridiculous getup. As quick as a flash I then see hundreds of mental snap-shots (which we all have stored as fans) of him rocking the mic when he persists with that real hip-hop. I see the establishing shots from Blade Runner, footage from the Country Club and later The Building in 91. I see Off the Grid studio footage, the scientist inside the Intergalactic robot, stupid Hold it Now Hit it dance moves.....I couldn't possibly list it all.
Suffice it to say, I like it for where it takes my mind, and that's my own thing which I realise is completely subjective. But, it's something that Get it Together can't do.
On the Nas thing, he comes correct on his guest spots, always does what's appropriate for the feature (see 'Success', 'Black Republicans', 'Rich & Black' at a minimum). Falling off or not, he's in my top 5 dead or alive. He had fun on the track, just spit some shit. As too did the B-Boys. Good times. (y)
EDIT - it doesn't take long at all to come up with this shit for anyone who wants to have a go at me for sharing my thoughts in detail. 5 mins, tops. Going to get pizza now.

I think Get it Together wins. But it's not a fair competition, somehow. TMR is kind of more hardcore, so it suits NAS's style. One of my favourites, tho I haven't listened to the album enough yet.

Get it Together. No doubt about it. One of the all time great hip hop tracks.

I agree with get it together. But tmr is a great song also. Just the fact you have 2 of the biggest legends on one track after all these years is pretty cool. And nas is one of the few og hip hoppers who hasn't sold out and makes pop radio music anymore. Ie jay z busta rhymes lil wayne to name a few.

Sorry Matchstikk, I wish I could make magic like that happen but I lack the sorcery skills...would I be a blasphemer if I were to say "Get It Together" drags in some spots whereas "TMR" just hits you hard?

Get It Together wins by miles.
Although, I do really dig the beat on Too Many Rappers.
Still, the beat on Get It Together is even better. Verses are also even better. I can't believe this was even a question that crossed someone's mind.

Back when IC dropped I always skipped past GIT.
I can listen to it now... But, it never did anything for me. Pretty much the same deal with TMR.

I vote for Get It Together. That track is effortlessly cool. As cool as Too Many Rappers is, it sounds like it took a bit of effort.

If we want to look at apples to apples instead of just two tracks with guests...you should contrast GIT with nonstop disco powerpack...two lazy flow bullshittin' songs
"Too Many Rappers" wins this.
Q-Tip came off wack as shit on "Get It Together". Why the hell would anyone freestyle on a recorded track? Q-Tip isn't (wasn't) even a battle rapper or a freestlyer. It is almost like he was "Yeah, I got 3 minutes.. roll the tape" with no effort what-so-ever. I mean, Method Man free'd on the Limp Bizkit track and came 100X nicer than Q-Tip.. I dunno.. The track itself is kinda weak to begin with but sounds dope on that remix that was on the single (with the Music Man beat)..

You lost your entire case when you dropped Limp Bizkit's name.

ATCQ was peaking when GIT came out. Win GIT.

I didn't say I liked it.. I just said his FREESTYLE was much better as was the beat. Fred Durst ruined that song completely by even being in the studio.

Again.. Q-Tip can't free. should have taken time and written something and it would have been a million times better.

Q-Tip freestyling is more hip-hop than anything Limp Bizkit have ever been involved with. Don't get me wrong, Johnny Blaze is the god but that pop remix verse is NOT fucking with muthafuckin Q-Tip at G-Son just chilling off the dome. It's hip-hop history.

Yeah that's one of the more lateral critiques I've seen levelled at Limp Bizkit.

What are you basing this on, Get It Together alone? Or did you see him fail at freestyling somewhere? Vomit on his sweater already mom's spaghetti?

TMR is the weakest (lyrically) track on the album....next to the Santigold track....good ideas, poorly executed.
