Like everyone, I've been playin' this shit non-stop. In the car, out chillin in the pool, errrrwhere. But, I haven't really taken the time to properly "get noice" and focus on this shit, especially the lyrics. Last night, I did, and this rhyme from Mike D really stood out for me:

Losing it in traffic, amped up on coffee
Like kids goin' wild after school for Mr. Softee

Like slice around the corner (?),
<gasp> it's sneekin' up on ya,
breathin' down ya neck,
<gasp> it's creepin up on ya.

The flow, delivery, and just everything about that shit just gave me some chills; espcially the last 3 lines. That's right up there with Mike's best, classic lines imo. Shit is just too right. Cheers, to Honest Mike. (y)

I Know!!!! Mike D has the energy of an atom bomb. One other part of this CD that just totallllllly cracks me up is the very beginning of Lee Majors Come Again. It sounds like Mike D is having trouble with his drum kit, and he hits a few times on the snare and says "Fuck!!!! Goddammit this thing... alright hold on Adam this thing keeps falling off".... the way he sounds is hilarious, but the way he says "Fuck!!!" is perhaps the most hilarious I've ever heard... he doesn't sound like he has anger issues at all.... he just sounds frustrated LOL

I'm sure everyone will disagree with me on this, but I think Mike D's the weakest link flow-wise on this album. Don't get me wrong, he's got some great lines (the one about Crass punks washing their ass for example) but his flow just isn't as tight as the two Adams. Case in point - Nonstop Disco Powerpack. Mike just gets out-shined on that one. Seems like he'd rather do silly voices and fire engine noises than have a smooth delivery. The B-boys wouldn't be the B-boys without him, but I just felt he didn't quite step it up as much as MCA and Ad-Rock. But that's just me.

Now wait a second, what about Mike's quick flow rap right after Adrock says "Make it look easy..." ??? That is the one part of the CD I've had stuck in my head the most recently.... Mike can spaz on the mic imo.

Isn't that still Ad-Rock?

I'm pretty sure it's Mike sneaking up to the mic to drop a bomb real quick. Then Adrocks picks up after Mike says "and I'm wicked and wild".

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I can hear the change in the nasal quality.

I also love Mike's first couple of lines after the 2nd (?) chorus... it starts out "Save the day!"

If you look at the lyrics that come with the CD, you'll notice they're color coded to each B-Boy.

Ad Rock = red
Mike D = blue
MCA = green
All 3 at once = orange

and looking the lyrics for NDP, that is Ad Rock.

Man am I embarassed. I thought it sounded like Mike's super groovy style... guess I was wrong... Old age? I'm only 43.

But I still say Mike rocks big time in Long Burn The Fire....

We'll see what other people think... but I'll bet you $5 it's Mike

You're Mike

The the lyrics that came with the CD aren't 100% accurate anyway... and the change in nasal tone had me certain it was Mike.

You're Mike

I'm a man of my Word :D But I'm really not Mike. I'm Chuck.

Now, I will paypal you $5 (g@y) if you want ... .. .. but I am now offering to raise the bet to $100, by claiming that "Mike D had some significant influence over the lightning fast words and flow in the particular verse being discussed.".

(if you can convince me it doesn't sound like it)

nah, I agree. and I don't feel one bit guilty for saying it because he totally dominated TT5B lyrically in my opinion.

not his strongest outing. a few too many references and not enough 'flow'. definitely too many silly voices and squeals.

plus i'm sure it's hard to shine when the 2 adams are in such explosive form.

I think Mike's Tadlock's verse stands out as my favorite of his on the record. he sounds nice and laid back. cool lyrics, fresh delivery.

Oh yeah not to mention that most of us have been saying he has the best verses on TMR.
