"Too many rappers, and there's still not enough emcees" , I should know but I don't so what exactly is an emcee? While on the topic of 'Too Many Rappers', I wonder what the non new reactionaries version sounds like, just no NAS? thanks

That's a bad quality version of the original TMR that as released as a single in 2009. You can still buy the good quality mp3 online. In fact the 12" single still exists in record stores.

Anyways an emcee means lots of things. Lot of people call themselves (M)aster of (C)eremonies, there's also (M)icrophone (C)ontroller and a bunch of others. I think what they mean by not enough emcees is that people aren't actually rapping with the soul and love for the art. They are more just rapping to make bad rhymes about money and bitches and basically whatever it's popular to rap about. So they are technically still rapping which makes them rappers but they are not emcees I guess. No one evolves as their own artists but instead make Pop music thats labeled Hip Hop. Just a basic assumption on what they mean and who they are targeting.
