Who are your favorite touring live bands these days and why? I'm looking for the types that play smaller venues - maybe the Roxys/Troubadours, Knitting Factories, Roseland Ballrooms/etc. type of spots.
I know Gogol Bordello is on my list of must-see's, but tell me who else.

I've been following these neo-minstrel folky Americana bands at festivals lately.
the avett brothers, mumford & sons, edward sharpe & the magnetic zeros, carolyn wonderland, etc...
they all bring a folky acoustic intimate vibe

Edan.
I saw him perform at a music festival, and although Im a fan of his I wasn't really sure what to expect.
Holy fuck. If you get a chance to see him, drop everything and do it.
The following was featured: Kazoos and guitar, wah-wah pedals, echo/reverb effects, playing Auld Lang Syne on a theremin, rhyming over Velvet Underground, DJing while holding a microphone and rhyming (and doing so perfectly), and handing out flowers to audience members.
It was the most unconventional rap show I've ever been to. Super fucking fun, and super memorable. Easily one of the best live performances Ive ever seen.

The Twilights were great, never heard of the band til I watched that Letterman clip last month (which is deleted). I'm really out of it because I really am not all that familiar with Afghan Wigs. I've been and continue to be on a music blitz this year.
Went to the Sasquatch festival last weekend, to much to cover but for me one of the highlights was Robyn... totally unexpected.
This Saturday (6/4/11) I'm seeing some outfit from Ireland called U2 down at a club called Qwest Field.
