those pesky kids obviously tipped someone off... or something.

I know KidP has had a recent burglary in the family and it sounds very similar. Horrible horrible experience. :(:(

What was weird was that I came across the guy (or one of them) in my front garden when me and my son had come back from an outing last week. I said, "What do you think you're doing?" He was like, Huh? I said, "What are you doing? Why are you standing in my front garden? This is my property". "Oh I was just taking a shortcut"
In another life I would have decked him and stood on his back while I called the police.

Yeah so they'd smashed through the kitchen plate glass window with a garden spade, put the chain on the front door and then pretty much helped themselves to everything they wanted, top to bottom of the house.

I got the police to go through the house first as I couldn't get in. At least I didn't have that to do on my own.

Most annoying thing: they made off with one of our car keys when they picked up a back pack. So now we have to pay £100s to get new coding+keys. Plus we have to keep parking the car miles away so they won't find it by bleeping the keys. Grrr.

Best thing: the idiots didn't find my wedding and eternity rings, which are unsurprisingly my most cherised/expensive things.
Also, the idiots came across a load of Euros and rejected them.

I really feel for you, happened once before to our family when I was abut 17, I felt so angry yet helpless.

Hope you've got everything covered on the insurance, remember to add your own bit of 'commission' on top of that because the insurance companies are assholes and you need to be a bit 'generous' with what you claim. Ask any friends for receipts of new TVs, PS3s, Blu-ray players etc you can have! Yes, I am suggesting you commit insurance fraud, but fuck it.

Glad your most important items were left though, that'd be a really kicker if they were taken. Good luck with getting everything sorted, but I told you you should have given me a call, haha!

fuck - I am sorry hear about this....and it sucks that you knew this was a wicked possibility. Hopefully you can recall some of the faces you have come across prior to this and police can eventually identify them.

When it comes to the car - you may want to use it in a sting operation, see if the police/investigators are willing to put some cameras in it. I know that sounds really weird, but it may save others in your neighborhood from future break-ins.

goodluck with getting everything back to normal - and please get some sort of security.....and a paintball shotgun

I don't think cc #'s on reciepts with other people's info on them would be much help - and why create more grief for yourself (including fines on top of being denied any claim, blackballed from insurance, etc)

So sorry venus :( My mom's house got robbed about a year ago and it left her and my little sis in a terrible state of fear. Punk kids kicked the front door in. Poor old family dog was left barking and terrified, locked in the bathroom. Just terrible. They were lucky and cops caught the kids driving away before my mom even knew she'd been robbed and got all of her stuff back or replaced (they'd broken a lot). But it sounds like your guys weren't just punk kids :( scary scary stuff. Hard when your home no longer feels safe. Hope the jerks get caught.

i'm really sorry to hear that :(

it's got to be frustrating as hell too, thinking that the reason it happened is because you had the impudence to shoo those kids off your lawn when all they wanted to do was menacingly case your house. whose neighborhood do you think this is, anyway?

it fucking sucks and i hope they all get caught

That really sucks, I am sorry  I had the fear today as well, my sister called me at 11am as she'd just driven past my house and my front door was wide open. I thought my builder might be there but she checked and he wasn't. I'd just left the house at 7am and left the door wide open. What an idiot I am so lucky

It's too bad when these actions happen to those we know and love.

But don't worry, it gets better! It helps to maintain a positive attitude and use existing resources!
I went through a milder experience last month when my car was stolen.

Thanks everyone. Some really funny comments on here. Made me chuckle.

Me and the little un went to the police station this morning to try to ID the guy we saw in the front garden, but as neither of us (interviewed separately) was 100% sure we couldn't say.

I finished submitting the insurance claim this weekend. We managed to piece together buying evidence for most of the things. We're a bit anal and keep boxes, sometimes receipts, but all bank statements.

Couldn't provide any proof of the jewellery. About 7 or 8 years ago I remember talking on here about a ring that my mother in law bought me. I can't remember whether I posted a pic, but anyway, can't find a pic on my computer, so I just had to link the insurers to pics of a similar item. I can never replace it--it was from a remote goldrush area in western Canada. Bit sad about that.

Meanwhile we need to make our perimeter a bit less of a walk in the park. I'm not planning on putting barbed wire up, but just some thorny roses etc.

*sigh*

just had two cars broken into. one smashed window, nothing taken. one drilled out lock, nothing taken. total damages £900. Good work, thieves.
