When it comes to anything relating to the short tour that the Beastie Boys did in support of Paul's Boutique -- all parties who should recall the event(s) seem to instead have collective amnesia. This having been said, I am going to try and track down at least one of the tour dates and hope that from that other dates fall into place around it.

My starting point is a promotional appearance that the Beastie Boys and DJ Hurricane made during this mini-tour -- awhile back (probably 2002) an eBay auction listing popped up that was comprised of a photograph of the group and a pizza box signed by everyone. I have the photos from the listing, but sadly did not win the auction. Did any of you win this auction....if so please contact me directly at 9thbeastie@beastiemania.com as I would like a higher resolution scan...

Also, it goes without saying, but obviously if anyone out there reading this post has anything (i.e. ticket stub, poster, flyer, photo) tired to this tour. It would be helpful to this age old quest. Dan LeRoy who wrote the Paul's Boutique Book in the 33 and 1/3 series was able to get Mario C to at least speculate that the mini-tour took place in the following cities: Miami, Dallas, Atlanta, San Francisco, and Boston.

What we see in the Shadrach video was recorded fairly early (September 1990), whereas what we see on Soul Train aired in January 1990. I suspect the tour likely was in 1990, not 1989...but until we nail it down for sure... either is possible.

the pizza box ebay thing was from an in-store appearance promoting PB in Mass correct?

I know that the Boston appearance was at least an in-store signing event at Strawberries Records in Kenmore Square. I waited in line (long-ass line even though PB had already tanked at that point) and missed out on getting to the front by like ten people. My friends got in and had them sign a vinyl LTI and (I think) a PB disc case. I think it was October '89.
I know one friend still has that copy of LTI. I'll send him your email.

Correct. It was in Mass...does anyone recall who won that auction? My hope was that they frequented the board.

October 1989 would fit with some people's belief that this tour took place in the fall of 1989. The point that needs to be clarified is did this record store tour take place separate from the club tour. My belief is that they took place at the same time. But, that could be proven otherwise. Please do pass my email onto him..I would love to get into touch with him and see what he recalls and also ask if he took any photos at the meet and greet. Photos are often dated and that would help us out by leaps and bounds.

I remember reading Billboard magazine during the PB era and they had an advertisement announcing a tour. I'm about 90% positive it said January, so that would make it early 1990. I never heard anything else about it after that.

Really? That is almost too easy - most of the billboard magazines are searchable with google...

I remember it was an ad for Capital Records. At the top of the ad it was promoting the Beastie Boys. It said tour starts January 1990.

I don't remember exactly what issue it was in, but it had to be late 1989.

This guy offers this, for what it's worth:

I did catch one of the five dates of the Paul's Boutique 'Tour.' This was at Club X in San Francisco, in November, 1989. It was rumored that the Beastie Boys were going to make an appearance, so my friends and I showed up to the dance club looking like slobs and waited for HOURS. It was well past one a.m. when the boys took the stage, delivering the sum total of two songs, 'Shake Your Rump' and 'Shadrach.' And just like that, they were gone, not to resurface live in the Bay Area again until February, 1992.

I had a similar expierence as this guy. I bought the cassette tape of PB as soon as it was released. After the first listen, I remember being disappointed, because it was so different than LTI. It took alot of listens to finally get into it and now I think it's one of the best albums ever.

This is my best lead yet! Thank you so much for this. This should be enough to get the ball rolling.

This is from Rolling Stone magazine issue 6/15/89:

One problem facing the Capitol album is Def Jam's plans to release its own new
Beastie Boys album. Russell Simmons says he is assembling an album titled White
House from unreleased raps to which musical tracks are being added. "You can
say it's dirty," says Simmons, "but I think they owe me. That's eight gold
records I've got to replace." Simmons says he plans to release White House six
weeks after Paul's Boutique.

By that time the band should be on tour. "We're going out in August" says
Horovitz, adding that the tour will be "short but sweet." The Beasties would
like to have either Blue Cheer or Sergio Mendes open for them.

....After all these years, those unreleased dirty raps never surfaced. We only got I'm Down, Scenario, and Desperado. I'm sure Russell Simmons had alot more if he was planning on releasing a whole album.

I was a little off with the last date - but with some help from the ladies of Expose - one wrong date turned into two correct Paul's Boutique era dates ;

The Pauls Boutique record release party was in 89 - so probably not many shows in 88...

September 10, 1989 was the date that the Beastie Boys performed at the Country Club in Reseda CA.

I am still working on figuring out the dates of Beastie Boys 1989 shows that may or may not have taken place in Dallas, San Francisco, and Boston.
