View Full Version : If you could say anything to the Beastie Boys right now, what would it be?

The obvious one would be "how's things?", and I don't really understand why anybody wouldn't given what's been going on, but also I guess it would be sort of awkward to talk heavy shit with your idols/strangers. So take that one as read or exclude it for being inappropriate.
I guess I'd ask if they're pleased with the new album, since it's awesome.

That's hard! I guess if I am too serious they would feed off of that and humiliate me. I'd have to think of something interesting.
I would ask Mike to recommend me some fine wine and maybe discuss food with them. They always get going when it comes to good!

Yeah the 'serious' serious buzz would be suicide. I mean, you'd want to say get well MCA and all that, but that's kinda their biz, right?

the big question is how you'd make that transition from "hey, pleasure to meet you, I'm a big fan..." (followed by an awkward silence) into any substantial questions. You would almost have to just close your eyes and jump, like "y'know I've only got like 5 minutes to shoot the shit with you, so let's just bypass the niceties and why don't you just gimme the goddamn key to the vault!"
There's no graceful way to transition from "nice to make your acquaintance" to "did Adrock really say 'take PCP' at the beginning of 'dropping names?"
hehe, I guess my answer is "I dunno". :o

I guess you could always be like "Oh, I've heard of you guys". What's useful is that if we have an indication that people don't know what to say, then we can come up with a toolkit which will prevent people from making fucksticks of themselves.
I think GDayJoel went up to MCA at a restaurant in Brisbane and MCA was all "Damn" like he was enjoying his dinner (in no way was it intimated that Yauch was rude btw, a dude's gotta eat though). So I guess the cold approach is something you have to handle very delicately.
When I was in Sydney and I saw some chick off the telly I simply fell over in front of her, like tripped over a little table. That made saying what's up a lot easier.

in all reality, the best way to make a splash is to just say something undeniably hilarious. read the mood, assess, then try and drop a hot one-liner. you'll either fall right into their hearts or get just completely clowned and humiliated by your heroes. y'know, no big deal...
Kid Presentable
07-15-2011, 08:52 PM
Being clowned by the Beastie Boys would be better than praise from most circles. What you want to avoid is making them really uncomfortable I guess.
I suppose you could ask "are you comfortable?" or "How are your current levels of comfort?"

"How are your current levels of comfort?"
I like the direction of this one...

Well ya'll remember this interview:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gH2GrX_P9F0
The guy did a good job but you could tell he was a little nervous and I guess some of the questions were cheesy to the Beasties so they teased him endlessly.
Don't know what I would have done! I would have probably said okay my questions suck, what do you want to talk about!
Now running into them randomly I am not sure how I'd do that. I mean some celebrities I could totally walk up to them and say hey!!!!!!!!!!!..... but with them being such a huge fan, I'd have to not fuck that up lol.

I'm completely serious when I say I think about shit like this all the time. Not necessarily just the Beasties, but alot of people. Trapped in an elevator with Jason Alexander, what do?
I think I'd try to play it cool and not act all fanatical. If I saw Yauch, for example, I'd probably just try to have a conversation with "Adam", rather than MCA.
Nahmean?

With digging the FFYR vibe out from the back closet, have they considered bringing that song back into rotation during future shows.
They could go a lot of different directions with that.... they could totally clown it, discuss future tour possibilities, talk about where the original FFYR stands in their mindset, what inspired them to make the FFYR revisited, blah blah blah....

i am very wary of meeting my heroes just in case either me or them makes a twat of themselves.
i dont know anyone who has met them but i dont think the treatment they give some journo's is going to be the same if its a fan.
I dont know what to say cos i guess it all depends on the major issue affecting the band right now and i wouldnt want to dwell on that. I could ask if they would play glasto again one day or ask them if they have ever thought of doing a covers album.
Kid Presentable
07-16-2011, 06:56 AM
ask them if they have ever thought of doing a covers album.
In the IC video commentary (if I'm not mistaken) they talked about releasing a covers album with Biz doing vocals. One suggested cover was 'I am Woman', which was deadpanned in such a way as to have me falling out of my chair laughing.
'Thank you guys, for all the cool music and for being good role models in my life'.
Yeah just a big thank you, I suppose.

I would demand a copy of the studio recording of Desperado and then ask them if they knew where I could buy some PCP. I don't see any way that conversation could go wrong.

I would talk about mother fuckin' cheese with the boys. They're experts. What's their favorite cheddar? Vermont? Celtic? Aged 12 months, 2 years? Sharp, mild, extra sharp? Adrock, Mike D, MCA plz weigh in on this subject.

I would ask
1.what is your all time favourite rap album?
2.all time favourite album?
3.all time favourite rap video?
4.Last time you heard an MC that blew you away?

I wanted to tell the band that I grew up with them since their first album with them being my favorite band, but I ended up saying that Raising Hell and Licenced to Ill were the first 2 albums I ever bought, and Mike D was Like, "ya OK that's pretty cool" or something and Adam and Adam were listening but I ended up kinda stopping there, getting shy lol! Oh well, meeting them a couple times is more than a lot of people can say about their favorite band I guess. Just really happy with how down to earth they keep being with all of us strangers they cross paths with all the time!
I would ask them to maybe hop on the boards a little more often, maybe, because when MCA says something in a thread you were a part of, it's a really good feeling that you just can't lose!

I'd probably end up saying shit like, like uh hey, member when you guys made Check Your Head? Uh yeah, that was really cool... (Chris Farley SNL skit)..
Then probably thank them for the years of tunes and laughs.
Maybe even beg for a new live DVD from the past.
Then end with questions about Triphammer.

I have to admit. I'd be after the music too. They might want to talk about wine or a charity, but I just want to hear some rare stuff.
..or maybe I would talk about that crazy Fonky Pizza guy and how he has conversations with himself on the forum board.

Id say sup y'all, you guys are the coolest people ever, i love your music more than any other music ive ever heard, ive never been able to truly feel music like yours, youre legends right in the prime time of rock and hiphop collaboration, you guys are my influence for getting into turn tables, i'd like to directly congratulate Mr. Adam Yauch for his wonderful progressing recovery and id like to see nothing more but large success in their lives for giving me such amazing music. I'd tell Adrock his stage presence is something very worth watching multiple times, i'd love to get skilled on the turn tables and rock the stage just like the King Adrock, Mike D that his personality is rockin' and that his top responsibilty for grand royal is fucking fantastic and that his voice is excellent. Yauch for his clever rhymes (Flowin prose I can listen to over and over just vibing to the lyrics, just over all tell them their music has gotten me through a lot of stress just poppin in some ear phones and closing my eyes just feelin every beat and rhyme. I'd thank them for what they've brought to the music world.
Oh, and that theyre great to their loving fans (:

That's part why I am such a huge fan. MCA's lyrics are very poetic... He's just really good with writing and telling a story through his music.
Anyway that was really nice what you wrote there girl. ;)
Right now I would just tell the guys that I wish them good health and happiness for 2012.
