Proper placement to cut down angles. Controlled, but extremely aggressive. Always remember you have the right to the ball, when you make your move, go all out, no half speed. Drop to a knee on the grounders. Try deflect out, over, or down when needed.
NEVER STOP DEFENDING THE GOAL UNTIL THE REF. BLOWS THE WHISTLE!

Oh yeah, when catching the ball, have your thumbs together to form a "W" with your hands. Watch the whole field. Don't fall for foot fakes, watch their waist, they go were it goes.

Some of the strategy for corner kicks comes with seeing what they've got talent wise. Someone who bend it in, or tall headers, or a combination. I always played middle of the box, middle of the goal, and just went balls out for the ball. You also have direct players, do not be timid. Tell them where you need them to be, who they should cover, and what to look out for. Example, players crashing in, backside help, little players coming to the front pole to try to just dink one in.
A side note, if someone flopped (faked an injury) the next time I would make sure that I hurt them for real. All legal in going after the ball of course. And in my 11 years, I received just one yellow card. It might sound like it, but I wasn't dirty, just real aggressive, and played very physical.

Penalty kicks.
It didn't always work, but usually gave me a good chance. Besides watching their eyes for subtle hints, I would on purpose make it look like I was counting steps to the middle, but I would leave a bigger gap to my right. It was usually so tempting they would go for it, and then all I had to do was adjust high or low. Most righties, will kick to upper or lower right corner of the goal.

If you're using gloves don't smell your hands.

Don't call it goaltending, don't call it footy, and don't take any shit from your centre backs.

yeah, communication and shouting at centre backs even when (in fact, especially when) its your fault.
Make your self big in a peter schmeichel stylee. star jump.
Never get beaten at your near post
try and grow an extra pair of hands.

Actually they're brand new (http://i183.photobucket.com/albums/x265/mcmoot/footy.jpg)...probably not the best to play our first game without having practiced with them,though...

Terrible and old school advice. First, everybody knows it's superior to form an X with your arms. Second, when the ball is at the other end, it's prime time to flirt with the chicky babes.
I'll also suggest shouting "WHOMP THERE IT IS!" whenever you make a save, it psyches out the other team, half the game is being an intimidating motherfucker.

I had forgotten just how much I truly love this game...bruised and battered...need knee pads...love it,just love it...if you ever played and then stopped for whatever reasons I can't recomend getting off the wall and back into it highly enough...find a Rec league...what a buzz...couldn't sleep, got sent to the couch for being unble to keep still...adrenaline!...yes!

Knee pads? Nooooooooooooo!!!!
Knee brace? That's cool.
I used to play in goal at school cus I was fat and couldn't play outfield. I got pretty good because I got fatter and fatter and then in my adult life when I played briefly I choose keeper because I was still fat.
Any tip from me would always watch the ball, sod everyone else. And be fat.

The pitch was shit...no turf in the crease but this gravel and clay crap...and the grass was too long...luckily we rotate fields for every game,so the next one is hopefully better...even just a tensor sock for each knee will do,me thinks...

i always loved playing goal when i was younger, but always ended up playing forward for college intramurals since we had the fat kid playing back.
i'd have to play goal now if i played, cause i've got no touch
