View Full Version : crazy people on the roads!

Today three weird and seemingly unrelated things happened on the road within the space of about 5 minutes...

First, I was driving out of the gym (a sports centre type place) and this guy and his little daughter were walking in front of me as if it was the pavement. It's not the pavement it's the road! Why are you playing that stupid game with your little daughter? I didn't beep or anything, just gave the guy a :| look as I drove past him.

Then, as I was turning into a main road, I saw a car up ahead overtake all the cars waiting at the traffic light and turn against the traffic into the other road at the intersection. I guess it was a slight pause at the junction while the "green man" light was on GO, but it was a bit
Who cares about pedestrians anyway

I turned off this main road into a little side road, and a guy was REVERSING UP THE ROAD towards me, as if a) it was a one-way street, and b) I wasn't driving down it.

BIZARRE! Crazy peope on the roads.

I just had to share. I was driving alone so had no one to go  with.

i nearly get hit every time im out on my bike. it's mostly by people that don't fully stop at stop signs and kinda creep out a bit into the road. since im on a bike im hugging the curb so it gets pretty close and i gotta dart around the car into the traffic on the road im on. the thing that bothers me the most is that when they're creeping out they're looking towards the direction of the traffic on the other side. shouldn't you be looking towards the traffic that's closest to you????

i understand im on a bike and i should "get out of the road!". but c'mon use some commom sense and looks towards on coming traffic.

then there's the people that just don't know what to do when they see someone on a bike coming at them at the same speed as the rest of the traffic when they're trying to make a turn onto a side street. it's like they don't seem to know if they should wait for a bike to pass or if the person on the bike is suppose to stop. they do this panicky thing and hesitate and start and then hesitate and then start again before finally darting in front of you then needing to come to a halt because now i'm in front of the road they wanted to turn onto. they're either really pissed at you or they look really embarrassed.

i guess im just some asshole on a bike.

People on bikes get the best of both worlds of pedestrian and auto traffic laws. They get a right to the road but yet they don't seem to have to obey lights or signs. I never know what the hell a person on a bike is going to do, if he's going to take a pedestrian right of way or act like a car.

I almost hit a bicyclist once. I felt really awful and it was an accident. It was raining and it was dark, it was night time. I was turning left into a drive way and he was on the side walk, just about to cross the driveway.

I used my turn signal but I couldn't use it for long so he didn't have a chance to see much of a warning, because I had turned right, onto the road, then made an immediate left into the driveway.

I didn't see him at all until I almost hit him. Then I stopped short and he stopped in the driveway and was all shouting and screaming "WHAT THE FUCK!?" and kept shouting at me and staring at me as I stepped out of the car to apologize and make sure he was okay. I kept saying I was sorry and that I didn't see him at all and I kept asking him if he was alright and if his bike was alright and he just kept gasping and shouting and not answering me.

After a minute of this I was getting kind of like "wtf," myself like "how long is this guy going to stand there freaking out as if there was an accident when there wasn't one, just a near-miss?" I almost wanted to say "Can we move on, now?" but that would have been insensitive. He was clearly deeply shaken. I didn't know what else to do. Finally he rode on really sarcastically like "uh, okay, BYE!" I didn't know what else I was supposed to have done.

I mean, I was really sincerely apologizing and honestly concerned about him. He was very upset with me.

this is what bugs me. a bicycle on the roadway is required to follow all traffic laws. a lot of them don't bother to stop at lights and stop signs, and its just as bad as if a car were to do it.

sure, motorists don't always follow the rules either but that doesn't make it okay.

Yeah I was just commenting on this the other day. I get really mad at idiots on the road. There is this route I take to work and this one lane that merges into one... One day this person stupidly decided to speed up to pass me. I literally had to get into the next lane (thankfully it was clear) or he would have hit me for sure. Slowing down to let him pass wasn't even an option. I am thankful for my horn but I almost broke it because he made me so damn mad!!!!!!

There is this case on the news right now. I got an email about it because a petition is going around..

read below:

A.J. Nelson was just four years old when he was killed in a hit-and-run by anintoxicated driver in Atlanta. Now his own mother, Raquel Nelson -- who was also hit by the car while trying to save her son -- faces up to three years in prison for A.J.'s death.

Raquel and her three children got off a bus and -- with several other passengers --attempted to cross a five-lane highway to get to her apartment across the street. Standing at the median, little A.J. reportedly saw someone else jaywalk and ran out into the street to follow. Raquel ran out after him to stop him. But it was too late. Both Raquel and A.J. were hit by a vehicle, and A.J. died in the hospital a few hours later.

The driver, who admitted having a few beers and pain medication that afternoon, spent just six months in jail. This Tuesday, a judge will sentence Raquel Nelson to serve up to 36 months in jail for the death of her own son.

Please sign the Change.org petition to tell Judge Kathryn Tanksley and Georgia Governor Nathan Deal not to jail Raquel Nelson on Tuesday. Improving safety is more important than punishing innocent mothers.

I feel bad for her and I don't have kids, but I would think a parent knows to hold on to KIDS especially where cars are speeding by. :/

personally it all depends on how im riding. if im taking it casual im usually on the sidewalk doing no more than a jogger's speed. but if im going full tilt i'll be on the road and i follow the road rules.

all of this happens to me all the time, but it seems to get worse every year. I'm really starting to think that most people just look to their right first naturally, because it's so common. it's like, "HELLO! THE WHEELED OBJECTS HURTLING AT YOU ARE COMING FROM THE LEFT YOU DILDO!"

Yesterday, some bitch was turning left from a side street perpendicular to the main road I was on (she had a stop sign, I did not). She looked right, she looked left, made eye contact with me, and decided to turn in front of me anyway. So I didn't slow down, I kept on riding toward her while scowling and her face was like, "OMG OMG", but she just kept going. I slowed down before hitting her car, but I shoulda just hit her.

As for cyclists following their own rules, I agree that some people are pretty reckless...but there's a reason they don't ride exactly like vehicles. It's fucking annoying/hard to stop and keep starting again when you're on a bike. If you need to stop walking, you stop your feet. Cars can stop and start with minimum effort. If you can slip by somebody on your bike against a light or stop sign, you go for it. But a lot of people take it too far and put pedestrians, other cyclists, and drivers in danger. (n)

Like the dickbag I almost ran into today. He was cycling down a steep bridge against traffic towards me as I was going up...I had to swing out around him and could've gotten really hurt if a car was there. As I passed him I yelled, "you are a crazy person!" and he just said, "yep". fucker.

by the by, it's illegal to ride your bike on the sidewalks here, so I think it's funny when people yell at me to get off the road.

As a cyclist and a driver, I always make room for bicycles and motorcycles. It really is a different world once you're on two wheels. On my road bike (bicycle) and Mtn bike, I've been run off the road, had things thrown & yelled at me, had numerous people turn right in front of me, while the light was green and I was going to go straight, etc etc... 2 wheels isn't as easy as it looks.

While I'm on the road, on a bike I follow the car rules, I use the left turn lane, I stop at the signals/signs etc, but unless you're in a 3000+lb automobile, you get ZERO respect.

People on the road suck, for the most part

I got rear-ended yesterday, thankfully on a little country lane where i'd stopped to let other cars through so traffic was really slow..and the woman who hit me was all shakey as her brakes hadn't worked. Sucks though because my boot was full of camping gear from taking my kids away and the boot won't open now....and my already shed-like car looks even shittier now. Awesome weekend though, lush campsite at the Gower in S Wales, right behind the sand dunes.(y)

every time I go out in the car I come across idiots.

today,so far have involved a stupid fucking bitch in her expensive sports car that doesn't understand the give way rule and a rasta man jaywalking in the road and me having to slow down and swerve the cunt.

I drive 99% of the time, and I see the same crap while driving. But you're way more vulnerable on a bike with nothing between you and being dead but a Styrofoam helmet, and some shorts.

I'm by no way apologizing for idiot cyclists, I see the crap they pull too. We are supposed to follow all the same rules as cars. But people in cars sometimes don't seem to understand this. When I'm in the left turn lane, with the cars, I get the strangest looks, but I'm following the law.

Traffic sucks, all over, no matter what your mode of transportation is, people are just rude.
