I was reading all about the "hidden messages" in their songs and the "drug references" and I was thinkin bout it, they were young as hell it doesnt matter, why point out something as much instead of pointing out how excellent their music has always been.. Sure its pretty funny that its in their songs lol especially at my age it makes me laugh, but theyre adults now and I dislike that theyre being remembered for that kinda stuff. Other threads i've seen people say the same thing :p It's silly, who cares? Focus on the music, If you hear it then cool its pretty funny, but don't intentionally fish out those things just to freak out about it, its not a huge surprise at their age with the money they made, but in no way does it define who they are. a lot of that stuff is in jest. i like the fact they pretty much take the piss out of gangsta rap before it even takes off. and, i mean, does any one really think the beastie boys smoked crack that often if at all?!

I don't think they smoked crack, but people say they did "a lot of PCP and LSD and Coke, smoked a lotta pot, love boat aka marijuana soaked in embalming fluid and laced with PCP" etc.
I don't believe that they ever smoked crack, or did heroin, or did that "love boat" bullshit but its possible I guess.
I can't assume theyre some sorta super heros lmao but no way did they do heroin.
But I do believe they did coke, LSD, PCP, and smoked alotta grass.
1) Smokin pot is really no big deal.
2) Yauch discovered Buddhism while on LSD
3) They obviously drank but thats nbd at all
Isn't that second one nuts?!

thank god the Beastie Boys did not produce LTI and PB type lyrics for the rest of their career otherwise I might make it a point to smoke and drink every Tuesday night.

all the PCP talk was supposedly just clowning, according to Yauch. he mentioned at one point that he'd only smoked dust once and it was by accident backstage at a Murphy's Law concert.

I wouldn't worry about what a small few are saying. If you check out any of their videos on you-tube or read any review the majority of people praise their talent and remember them for that. Their music gets the final word. And never take anything seriously unless you are watching the physical interview. Most of the time they are full of it lol. I personally don’t mind the older lyrics. I love em. Paul’s Boutique and LTI are my favorite Beastie albums. As for the drugs, I am sure they experimented, I mean it's obvious they did....but something tells me they were way smarter than their peers when it came to that.

Look at the brain power they posses today, obviously what ever drugs they did use it helped them have an outstanding and long lasting career. Not too many musical individuals/groups can say they put an album out in 4 different decades of the human time frame.

but what musician hasnt done a lot of drugs? ahaha like really.
the only thing i dislike, is that the beasties beat themselves up for their lyrics in LTI, and its like....DONT! they cant worry about that when they sold millions of records of LTI

It'd be like if someone video taped your(if you have gone) college days, be a lot of embarrassing moments. Stupid decisions, and decisions that could change the face of mankind. A lot of decisions, major decisions, hardly any decision goes with a lot of expert decision making.

yeah, so they partied a lot...but those mistakes they've made, made LTI what it was, ya know! the 80's were a party/dumb decision decade! hahahaah

No the 80's ruled! Not dumb but just fun. And as Yauch put it in many interviews, he said they always liked to have fun with whatever they do. In the 80's they were young MEN with an explosive album, of course they're gonna be wild. And even though they are older they are still silly as hell. That's never changed.
Yauch also stated they aren't as embarrassed about their past as many people think they are. ;)

they shouldn't be embarrassed about anything. young and making cash (although not their due amount in the end), with a fair amount of satire, and the simple fact that they have changed. some people stay the same their whole lives, the musical direction they took with Paul's Boutique alone showed a significant shift that tells you all you need to know. that said, i genuinely hope they look back on LTI with pride and good memories. it's an old school hip hop classic and, though i'm glad they changed things up, every band has to have a wild era, and wild it seemed to be.

Hmm, well im sorry to have offended you. I was just makin conversation about it, My whole point was also that it doesnt define who they are or their music, I just thought all that stuff was silly! Theyre hilarious, weither they did those drugs or not I really dont care, I was just sayin, seeing if anybody else thought it was silly too (:
No means of disrespect i'm not trying to be like "oh well youre wrong!" a lot of people take it to seriously that they said that kinda shit which is really dumb, What kinda beasties would they be if they rapped about going to church! xD xD xD
So again I'm sorry if I came off snobby all like "meh." and b.s. (:
just small talkin with my fellow fans about the little things (:

Adrock mentioned in an interview that he tried heroin once. Someone linked it to this forum but I can't find it.
There's also an interview somewhere on the web where the Dust Bros talk about freebasing with the Beasties...actually it may be in that 33 1/3 book.

Hopefully he was just foolin' when he said he tried heroin
(But i'd like to throwdown that through this convo, none of these things change my opinion on their music :D)
