Post thoughts and opinions... so far nothing has grabbed me. Only halfway through though and to be fair I haven't heard anything bad. It's just kind of by the numbers.

Like a less fun De La album. Should be a grower though. (y)

I reckon so... New Day has been a highlight for me, although not sure about the weird autotune-esque shit... I thought Jay killed that?

'Welcome to the Jungle' is a beast.

Jay-Z should listen to himself...auto-tune ruins New Day....an otherwise good song...

Nah he just spent the song rapping about how great the beat was.

I meant I thought he killed autotune.
Made In America is a great song, apart from the content.

Yes - on D.O.A he just rapped about how great the beat was

Oh. The version I heard was about commercial rappers overusing autotune.

Got my first listen in just now. I didn't get to hear the bonus shit. Truthfully, I was hoping this would be the best album of all time. It's definitely not. I'm slightly underwhelmed. I do think the album got a lot better the second half. Everything from "That's my bitch" on is pretty good. Need a few more listens, but it doesn't come close to touching Dark Twisted Fantasy or BP3 imo.
"Otis" is still a banger and the "Welcome to the Jungle" beat is sick.

i liked that more than i thought i would. Apart from the Paris track, i didnt think much of the first half.
I'm still getting my head round New Day, bizarre idea. Another massive song to use. But i have listened to that song a few times now and its growin on me.
need to listen to made in america again a few times.
Its got me thinking about the whole sampling process and am intrigued as to how they put all this together. I'm not sure i can articulate what i mean without sounding like someone who doesnt really know what they are talking about.
it's alright; doesn't shout greatness at me but there's not much you can fault on it, besides the auto-tune. bit contradictory of jigga? it's like kanye has been all "yeah nah man! let's use it! trust me! it won't be that bad" and jigga just gave up arguing.

I dunno what's wrong with me lately (I do actually, i'm getting old) but things like "That's My Bitch" make me cringe. I love the beat, but the sentiment makes me wince.
Pretty disappointing, in my opinion. Welcome to the Jungle is pretty fucking fantastic, though.

In short, Jay Z is the biggest queer in hip hop ever! Give up on him. He does not have one cool tune.

i have to agree, obviously i dont know the process of making this album but i t does seem like kanye has had more input on grooves and samples but it feels to me like instead of just listening to music and picking grooves out of it that he has been striving to use certain tunes/ideas because they are "big". i.e" lets use "tenderness" cos its a big song by a big artist and we are big artists" instead of just organically making grooves that feel good.
Just seems like some of it is trying too hard.

Bad Meets Evil sounded like two old friends making a fun record and trying to outdo each other with lyricism.
The Throne sounded like two old friends trying way to hard to make a "classic" record.
I'll take BME all day everyday.

ive finally got to listen to it a couple times.
theres some bangers on here. some alright tracks. and a couple bad songs that will not be making it onto my ipod.
kanye is not really a great rapper, he proves it again. some good punchlines like always but as usual he is just saying a bunch of meaningless shit.
jay is getting stale as hell to me. he does some good things on here but im just tired of his voice and his need to "dumb down" his lyrics.
the reviews of this album from the heads has been pretty split with more being negative than positive, but still some people feeling it.
the main reasons i have been seeing for the hate is the beats and the overall content. a lot arent feeling where Ye is taking his music. mixing electro stuff into his beats, taking it away from hip hop. the content is basically maybachs and millions. which many of the haters of the album are saying they cant relate to. and thats fine. but much like the beats i dont have a problem with the content. i like all kinds of music, so something good is good to me, i dont care if its out of my tradition box of listening. because i dont really have one, but many people do. i look at rap like i look at movies. these guys are entertainers, like movie actors. i cant relate to someone shooting up some people like i cant relate to someone planking on a million. but i can be entertained by both because thats what music is to me.
this album is around a 6.5/10 7/10 to me. mostly good music with some standout tracks, mixed in with a couple real stinkers.

Bumped this thing in a people mover with mad subs on a 5 hour drive, and I gotta say, I'm loving it.
No Church, Ninjas in Paris, Otis, That's My Bitch, Welcome to the Jungle, Who Gon Stop Me, Murder to Excellence and Why I Love You are all solid 4s for me. Why I Love You would have been a 5 if they'd just slapped the Cassius track down in its place, but what are you going to do?
I like the cleverness of clever rappers rapping in an ignorant fashion. It's probably a 3.75/5 -4/5 at a stretch. More than the sum of its parts and all that, lots of interesting ideas.
