The Beasties are playing your hometown tomorrow. Comeback gig if you will. Twenty songs. Any songs. Though I've tried to make mine realistic (i.e. they probably wouldn't play 20 album cuts)... I'll go first. Give me yours!

Ch-Check It Out
Sure Shot
Make Some Noise
Root Down
Body Movin'
Say It
Right Right Now Now
Sabrosa
Multilateral Nuclear Disarmament
Something's Gotta Give
An Open Letter to NYC
Shake Your Rump
Brass Monkey
Here's a Little Something For Ya
Long Burn The Fire
Intergalactic

Shadrach
So What'Cha Want
Lee Majors Come Again
Sabotage

And yes, you're right, they probably would play more than 20 tunes, but let's make it hard. I've kept it fairly 'safe'...

Ya I know, that's when you know a band is great, they have just so many incredible tunes you can't possibly fit them into one show

With Adam Yauch being sick all of this time I think that a great opener for the band would be for him to begin the show with Long Burn The Fire!!! I can see it now, it would be focking amazing. So here’s my list.

I like the instrumental stuff, but If I only have 20 songs to work with, theres songs I'd just rather hear instead.

The tricky thing is, with 20 songs, you have to balance up the entourage ($Mark and Fredo) and precisely what they would get up to. I think Big Day Out was 20 tracks, and they found a reasonable role for those guys. Maybe more instrumental stuff? If they did Non-Stop Disco Powerpack live I could see Fredo drumming and Mark using a bass pedal on his keys to recreate it. It kind of needs that 'live' feel.

They performed it during the quadrophonic tour (1995)...so no reason why they couldn't dust it off...I would probably say this is my fav track (or Long Burn the Fire).

This is true. I guess I didn't really think through the logistics. But as you say, 20 songs is fairly realistic for a festival. I think it was you who brought up how a lot of the new songs would come across live...it'll be interesting to see what they do. For instance, in my mind it'd be stranger to hear Make Some Noise just coming off the wax than performed with live instrumentation. But then you also get the sense that Adrock, MCA and Mike D would wanna be 'free' to rock the mic. Hmmmm.

Anyway Car Theif, Grasshopper Unit, and Rhyme the Rhyme Well would be very welcome.

Honestly I would have picked every song on Paul's Boutique but so much has changed and I see why some of the songs wouldn't come off the way they did when they were younger. Car Thief though stands the test of time. I would KILL somebody in cold blood to see them perform that song again. I suppose it's POSSIBLE. It has more of a chance than FFYR.

I never liked the change of lyrics but I guess it's better than nothing.

Another one is for Yauch to do "I don't know" and play the guitar while singing it. But that's just a PIPE dream lol. :p

ya damn brother, that is a killer list i must admit. I wrote songs down for mine and then i had the tough task of process of elimination and then to try and put them all in a order that works best was damn hard. It seems like you have more than 20 songs cuz there is so much good shit on there, but no theres 20 alright you got my vote if we were voting, it seems to work so well together.

If I could have added 2 more songs I would have stolen Open Letter and Looking Down The Barrell from your list...fun task...props to the guy that came up with this thread.

Yeah I was in class and I spent my time doing this. I think it's fun, 20 songs is a challenge but that's the point. I wish I could be more daring, but even though I've heard them a million times and seen them live several...the likes of Root Down and Sure Shot are quintessential to any Beasties show is my opinion.

JasonP

I felt obligated to try and make a list that appealed to the casual fan and the die hards. So Root down had to be there along with the classic encore.

Get better Yauch!...we need to see you move the crowd again.

29. Mark On The Bus (featuring Money Mark)
30. Sabotage

I was at this show and it was definitely one of the best shows in my life (my sixth time seeing the Beasties)! This setlist is near perfect in my opinion -- ton of hits, some great instrumentals, some rarities like Mark On The Bus(!) thrown in for the fans AND Biz took his shirt off for Bennie And The Jets. It doesn't get any better than that

Here's a little trivia for ya -- Country Mike is wearing Mark Linkous' (Sparklehorse's) hat. I ran into Money Mark and Mark Linkous at the tour bus before the show (too shocked with coolness to say anything) and then Country Mike jumped up with Sparklehorse's dome. Wish I had said something to the Marks at the time, but I was too starstruck. RIP Linkous.

I believe this was their next to last show before the revelation about MCA, correct? They played Bonnaroo right after this and Nas joined them...
