I AM SO HAPPY FOR THIS TODAY!
dudes were in jail for 18 years, one of them was about to be put to death.

so great(y)
years ago i watched the film (http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=west+memphis+3+documentary&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=0l0l3l74l0l0l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbo=u&tbm=vid&source=og&sa=N&tab=wv&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=8856f7a4eb57fa53&biw=1076&bih=696) about them. i sent some books for them to read in prison. i remember the book i sent damien was about meditation and how to visit other places through it.
there's a live news conference about it here (http://www.tmz.com/)

whilst i understand the situation, i dont understand the alford plea thing fully, are they admitting that its understandable to have convicted them in the first place. I read up on the alford plea and i still dont get it.
I am always full of different emotions when i read/see stuff about wrongly convicted people.

i think these pleas have to do with the state protecting itself from being sued by the 3 guys.
basically, these guys were convicted of murder because they were metal-heads who dumb people thought were satan worshipers.
this release happened really suddenly. i choked up a tiny bit when i saw them at the press conference. i don't think i would've made it through those 18 years if i were these guys. its a tragedy that people were actually murdered and its really a tragedy that these three innocent men lost so much of their lives.
i remember the book i sent damien was about meditation and how to visit other places through it.
i volunteered for a time with a program that sent books to prisoners, and those kinds of books were pretty common requests actually. a lot of astral projection and a lot of occult stuff.
the biggest requests were dictionaries

My dad called me before I went into work yesterday to tell me that my WMT t-shirt he bought me was now a museum piece, I didn't get it until he started shouting over the phone that they were freed!!:D I'm so happy for them; I'm so happy their time has come!

interesting... i can see why. i remember that we were not allowed to send them books ourselves - i had some books of my own that i wanted to send. it was required that the books were purchased directly from a major seller and shipped by them.

i wonder what life is like for someone like these guys who were pretty much doomed to rot and die in the system - the release came so suddenly, their heads must be spinning.

bob, did you every encounter any kind of smuggling going on with the book thing you worked on? what can you possibly put in a book? a blade i guess
i think i would really love for someone to send me one of those 3D books with a sheet of blotter acid in it.

i guess every prison has different restrictions. some of the ones we sent to had restrictions based on size, or hardcover/paperback, or most commonly bans against books with spiral bound books, since they didn't want anyone turning the wire into a weapon
there wasn't any kind of smuggling or anything: all the stuff we sent went through the prisons' mail rooms, i'm guessing they looked over everything before they passed it on to the prisoners.

I hope they prosper now that they are out..I know a few ppl in there right now (rightfully convicted..) who are trying to turn their lives around - they eat 3 square meals a day, workout, and read; I hope the WMT did the same. Agreed, their heads must've been spinning for the past 18 years, hopefully they can finally settle now.
what can you possibly put in a book?
you can lace cocaine/heroine in books if u press it right
