People are totally insane here, running around in the streets. Theres lines for the grocery stores going around the block, it seems like everywhere is sold out of bread and batteries.
They're shutting down the whole subway system tomorrow. Ive never experienced a hurricane before, but the way people are acting here it seems like the end of the world.

I love me some battery operated bread.
i honestly don't know what to expect. as a new englander, i have no frame of reference for hurricanes. the most severe weather we ever get up here usually is blizzards.
i bought a gallon of water and a bunch of junk food—i'm guessing that the most likely bad scenario is that the power gets knocked out for a large chunk of sunday and that i won't be able to get into the fridge or cook things so i'm ready for that.
hopefully it won't get any worse than that. if it does, i do not know what to do.

I'm working nights all weekend at the hospital. I figure it is the best place to be. I will have power and food. The only problem I may endure will be on the drive into work tomorrow evening. Here's hoping for no flooded roads or downed trees.

I am in Texas and we are pretty use to this. Honestly if a category 1 or 2 were coming our way I don't think anybody would be panicking. We would just be buying what we need to stay safe and hope that the flooding won't be too bad. IKE hit us at a 4 and that's the only reason we had panic because we didn't know what a 4 would do. It left us flooded really bad and without electricity for days.... AND GALVESTON was shredded!
If it hits you at a cat 1 or 2 I really don't think it's going to be as bad as you think, but the flooding I believe is the main thing to worry about.

i think that was the one where i was supposed to go camping on the harbor islands but i turned around and went home because i didn't want to camp on an island in a hurricane. my friends stayed and said it wasn't so bad

Usually we get some rain remnants, but the forecast here has zero chance of anything for the next few days

I hope nobody gets hurt, but i do kinda want to see pictures or video of a person canoeing through times square if it floods.
yeah it should be coming here soon.

To everybody out there, stay safe for the next few days.

the news media around here is really fucking with people. telling them it's gonna be the worst storm seen in decades. with historic flooding of the connecticut river valley. power outages for days and so on. people are already freaking out because of the tornado and earth quake we had recently.
we'll see.
i just found a kickass place to ride along the river. i hope it doesn't get fucked up.

yeah, my thread sucks. I'm sitting in my house really feeling it right now, winds picked up. Not too bad though but the radar predicts that I'll feel the most of it tomorrow.
We took everything that was on the floor in the basement to the second floor, taped the windows and drained the pool a bit.

Basement got flooded with 6 inches of water. We tried pumping it out with the pool pump and it broke so we hired someone to pump it out and he's using the same kind of pump we have.
I can see from the water line on our pool the we had a foot of water in our backyard last night.
It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be but now we have to replace the carpet in the basement which sucks.
