The majority of my Beastie collection (and I'm sure many others on here) was accumulated in my pre ebay/amazon teens. Before you could simply wander online and pretty much buy any obscure beastie related nick-nack you wanted. I remember getting a train to London once just to buy a load of bootleg vhs cassettes and live music recordings from some small music shop. I was 16 and the money was all my own - plus my parents had no idea what I was doing. I could find any of it now for a 1/10 of the price for a few clicks on the screen.

I didn't see the dolls. I've always thought the 'big fans' had the dolls? I worked for 9 months in a dive bar and a part time shift lugging palettes about in a warehouse to pay for mine when I was a student. That money should have been spent on art materials :o

Now I'm a massive fan, not a collector. I just want to distinguish myself here. I have a lot of Beastie stuff. I've also given away a lot my stuff to various collectors on here. I've seen some impressive collections, and I'm talking guys with every print of every cd/tape/recored they have ever done. It's crazy dedicated type shit.

I have a huge black and white one framed in my apartment of the band. The rest are all kept in folders. The other thing I collect is rare performances. Some of you gotta have all of the music on vinyl or 50 shirts. All the collections are facsinating to me.

Listen, i knew i was goin gto get people agianst me and my collection by posting this vidoe, but are you really going to bring age into the picture(im younger than 18 btw) when i said in my video that age shouldnt be an issue, I had to work JUST AS hard as anyone else to get my collection as it is now. For example, shout out to my longtime friend Jim and his Brouhaha podcast, all the folks keeping Beastiemania alive, everyone at Mic to Mic, all the bloggers, etc.

It's not really a contest. What's important is that you have some Beastie love in your heart!

I have a collection, I think I've posted it up before, may post again....

I will tell you what I value above and beyond what I've collected. If it came down to it, I'd trash and burn all of my Beastie stuff to keep the friends I've made over the years. The friends I've made running my site, the friends I've made here, the friends from other Beastie Boys sites, the nice PM's I get every once in a while showing some love. I'd trash all of my "stuff" in a second if it came down to friends or collection. It's just stuff... Better to die with friends, than stuff...

I have fond memories of 99% of my encounters with fellow Beastie Boys fans, we're normally a pretty chill crowd. I have great memories of a couple new release (Record Store Day) hunts on the cell phone with a close friend across the country, Limit One per Customer...."Hey Friend be sure and bring someone else with you"...."Checking in, did you find it yet?"...."No, this is the second shop I've hit, and they're sold out"...."Keep Looking, I snagged two copies on my second shop!!! WHooo!!!" Good times!!!

It's memories like this that the Beastie Boys have facilitated for me. I host 125 DJ's who I don't all consider close friends, but a LOT who are willing to lend a hand if I asked. Guys who I trust any one of them to send a $150 Microphone to so they can do a podcast. Also a good friend who I can call day or night when I happen upon some Beastie rarity and I don't know if it's real or a bootleg copy he can confirm or deny it's super awesomeness with 100% accuracy. That shit's priceless!

I don't claim the biggest collection, website, or friends list. But I know which one I value the most.

At the rate you're going, I feel that you may be left at the end of the day with very few friends and a giant collection. I don't want to see that, and I really don't think you want that. Chill out, settle down, stop the braggadocios, accept that YES there are people with larger collections (and I know a few of them), accept that there's no such thing as a No. 1 Fan for anything.

I've accepted long ago that I'm only their No. 2 fan. :(

Can I just say, I had a beastie fish tank back in 1998, not as good as yours ok and all it had was HN stuff as the background and three lego figures posing at the bottom I weight down but it's shit like that saying you had the original idea to theme a fish tank is what is getting peoples backs up. People have been placing themes in fish tanks since the first person decided to keep fish as an ornament. People have been collecting stuff since shelves were invented. Not many of these started their collection as a competition, it's more their love for the theme of choice.

I would say that's a pretty good start. In the video you mentioned that you were not even 18 and you shouldn't be judged by your age. Fair enough. The other side of that coin is that you should recognize that you were born in or after 1993. By 1993 some people had already been fans of the B-boys for over 18 years, which coincidentally is longer than you have been alive. I like the fact that you are a proud and dedicated fan. I don't like the fact that you believe that your devotion to the band is somehow singularly more significant. Any degree of rational objectivity would require you to at least consider the possibility that of the millions of fans they have out there, some of them may fit (or even exceed) whatever your criteria is that compels you to view yourself as their greatest fan ever.

I am sorry to keep bothering you with questions, but I am having a tough time following the logic of this discussion. I went through Prof D's collection and counted the number of releases he had and wound up with 800 (plus or minus 5 for error). So, assuming that my count is correct, that would mean in order for your collection to be 1/5 the size of his you would have a minimum of 160 releases. I think I would be doing you an injustice to base an accurate count of the number of releases you have based on your excellent video, but my best guess would be that you have around 140 items in your collection. Whether your collection is only 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 or 1/5 the size of his collection matters not one whit (as others have so earnestly and eloquently stated), although from a numerical standpoint I must admit I am curious.

I don't know you, and can only speculate as to why you appear to be unwilling to admit that there is at least one (and potentially many) collections that are far larger than yours, but attempting to have a rational dialogue with someone who refuses to listen to reason is like attempting to administer medicine to the dead.

I haven't seen Thad's video, so I can't comment on whether or not you belong in the same sentence with him. I have however seen Prof D's, and in my opinion lumping yourself in the same category with him in terms of your "nice ass collection" is absurd. Your collection pales in comparison.

He has 839 Beastie Boy releases. Even if you have 200 his collection of physical releases is four times larger than yours. That towers over your collection of physical releases from the Beastie Boys the same way a 24 foot giant would tower over a 6 foot person. By the way, each of these copies are different pressings. I've had to eat crow on this board before because I spoke out of ignorance. I know it sucks to have to recant a statement that I made when I didn't know as much as I thought I did about a subject. I am not saying this applies to you in your own mind, but from the perspective of someone looking at it objectively, it is the only reason that makes sense in my mind that you would not withdraw the assertion that your two collections are by some convoluted logic equal by comparison.

Imagine that tomorrow someone joins the message board and proclaims that they (not you) are the Beastie's #1 fan. They say that their massive collection and obsession will prove it. A couple of weeks later they post a video of their collection, and it has 40 items in it. Would you not think to yourself "that person has no idea"? If so, then you can understand some of the backlash you created for yourself. If not, the most likely reason for NOT thinking that is because you are having to deal with that backlash and you could empathize with them. Whatever the case, it would be obvious to you (or anyone else that bothered to look rationally at the two collections) that your collection "dwarfs" theirs.

You have the right to do, say, post, or believe anything you like, but if having credibility with the people who will be reading the content you post matters in the least don't obfuscate or dismiss compelling arguments that run contrary to your beliefs.

I spent my entire life collecting beastie boys gear. sure, in the begining of the net era, i bragged but growing up i realized I was just like anyone else here, owning just about what everyone else had. but it was fun. my latest addition was the 12" beastie boy dolls that I got for $300, which was the original price when they first got released back in the day. the one thing i have an endless supply of are the "catch the fever" t-shirts that the beasties and doug e fresh help popularize again. as for gear, i have something like 40 t-shirts, 20 posters, baseball caps, a beastie scarf, a bomber jacket. it was a fun ride.
