i didnt really know who anyone was apart from kid rock. he is kinda pathetic but he looked like he was giviing it his all and if he was up for paying tribute then fair do's. The songs they picked kinda suited him and i dont think it detracts from the honour (which isnt that amazing anyway really) that super cool and influential acts didnt get involved.
You're right. I guess there wouldn't have been much more they could do anyway without the three and the general public heard the songs they wanted to hear. Like I say it wasn't bad, it was a good tribute. Hearing MMM and The Roots made it for me.
BTW Kathleen Hanna looked stunning. That was the most dressed up I've ever seen her!

Anyone else think the tribute set was a little to LTI heavy? While I love The Roots (I even still like Kid Rock ;)) and they did do the B-Boys a great honor stepping up here, I just think Beastie Boys would have came with a much different set, more devise and representational of their whole catalog and range (Hip-Hop, Alt. Rock, Instrumental & Punk)... if they were able to preform.
I guess I just thought ?uestluv would have understood the Beastie are so much more than LTI
Just saw the HBO broadcast in HD and it changed my mind about my above quote... The Roots killed it and everyone involved in the tribute represented Beastie Boys in the fullest. Oh what a difference a proper sound and view can do (read as, crowd shot YouTube vids can highlight the worst in a performance, and proper filming can bring out the best).
Thanks for a noice tribute ?uestluv

Kid Rock is a lame poser that represented everything the Beastie Boys were against (goateed metal rap say goodnight)
Hip Hip Honors mean/meant way more than this

Your link doesn't work,
but I have been following hip hop pretty closely since the mid 80's. I know Kid Rock's career and discography and it is quite lame.
Another poster said I am naive about Kid Rock, please. Are you going to start telling me Limp Biscuit is credible too now? Insane Clown Posse? Everlast's 1st album?
I haven't seen the performance, and his performance probably isn't bad but the Beastie Boys absolutely deserved someone better than Kid Rock up there.

I respect your opinion, but it wasn't about who was performing...it wasn't about Kid Rock...it was about honoring the Beastie Boys.

It's the perfect example and proves how intricate and sophisticated their music is. NoOne can duplicate it......nobody. Not even close.

The way i see it is that was evidence enough about how impossible it would be for them to tour and do songs that required MCA on the mic in my opinion.
