Starting to smoke cigarettes is a fine decision. Although much maligned, the cigarette remains the quintessential symbol of cool. If you're a lapsed smoker of many years habit-free they can be just as good as they were when you first started.

And they make you look cool.

Are these labels really effective? I don't know. I think if you have an addiction and can still buy these freely it won't matter.

No seriously I don't smoke but I don't tell people they are wrong for it unless it's a close family member.

back in the day it was glamourized. times have changed.

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHIT2or-F9o) was a lot funnier to me when I was 25 and smoking. Now that I'm 40 and still smoking, it's just mildly amusing at best. Go figure.

Smoking does nothing for you but calm your addiction for it after the fact the you thought it was cool when you first started smoking.

It will be 2 years in March since I made my mind up to quit, although I did smoke like a mother fucker in Saint Lucia on my honeymoon. You're right, KP. Felt like the first time and was awesome, but getting towards the end, I was wondering/hoping I'd be ok when we got back. Haven't really had any trouble.

I quit 8 weeks ago but sat here reading your post you know what, I think I may start again. I've felt way less cool the past 8 weeks.

Aren’t prescription drugs America’s choice? Apparently propofol is popular too.

smoked for 20 years, been quit a year now.

i still want one , i could probably see a pack of 20 off in about 5 minutes but i will still want one so i figure fuck it, i might as well just want one. And its not all the time , the cravings dissapate.

I had chemical help to initially come off them but that only lasted a month or so and then i was fine.

I have saved 2 grand in a year.

I never want to go back even though i probably think about having one on average about 3 times a day but they smell and taste like shite

I quit in May, haven't cracked yet.

It probably helped that the last time I smoked I was in Fiji and was smoking Fijian Benson & Hedges, and boy were they shit.

I smoke when I'm on a night out with the gals. Mom's got to have an outlet.

Never smoked a cigarette in my life, got past those teenage years where everyone starts no problem and who the hell starts in their 20s? It just seems the most ridiculous thing, no-one likes their first cigarette but they force themselves in front of their friends to carry on until they do.

Yeah I quit being a smoker in 2003. But I have been allowing myself a sly dart on the sauce of late, and it's good. (y)

i'd smoke in college when id booze sometimes. mainly to enhance how cool i was. i tended to learn more often than not, no matter how much i drank the night before, if i smoked along with drinking i would no doubt feel terrrrrible the next day.

moral of the story, cigs must be really bad for you.

i only started cos i was rocking the green and just fell into having the odd one. Even though i have stopped smoking the cigs now, there is the occasional spliff but i use nicotine free herbal tobacco stuff. Its not the greatest but it doesnt make me want to smoke another 20 times a day and is made from mint and eucalyptus.

i never got the european spliff.

over here (or in my area at least) spliff was just another word for joint; an all weed cig.

over there i know its mixed, 50/50 or however one does it. i was never sure why? to extend the amount of chronic you have? to not get quite as high? cant handle a whole weed joint/blunt to the head?

what is it euros?

Fuck smoking.

Now for a joke:

Denial and a momentary satisfaction that costs alot of money; I have a sex life, why smoke.

But in all seriousness;

Fuck smoking.

i've quit........ about 20 times. the longest probably would have been about 6 months. the problem after about 1 week you think you're over it, then the thought pops in "just one isn't going to hurt" then it's like " yeah one a week cant be too bad, then i can really appreciate it"
one a week becomes one a day, which becomes one in the morning one at lunch and one at night. then before you know it you're back smoking full time again.
my problem is i've been taking gum when i've wanted to quit then started smoking again so now it's like cigarette, gum gum 3 hours later another cigarette. makes it almost impossible to quit using gum for me now

cyp - having a half and half spliff is because its a social thing and you dont want to get totally munted straight away. its a waste of weed.

mr manipulator - I have done pretty much all methods of giving up and the problem with nicotine replacement is that its got nicotine in it. I know its worked for some but not for me. its a substitute and it doesnt ever compare to cigarette which is why i always went back.

I quit using champix which i had to take for two weeks whilst smoking and then carry on taking for another 2 months. I didnt complete the course because i forgot to take a few times and didnt want a cigarette. It just makes you forget about nicotine a bit more than cold turkey. You still have to have a plan and will power it just helps you in the more difficult times. It can play with some peoples heads (i had a few intense dreams) but i think all the pitfalls are not as bad as lung cancer.

A guy I worked with who smoked like a chimney discovered that he had COPD so tried to quit using champix. It sent him pretty crazy - running around with pants on his head and pencils up his nose crazy - he lost his job, kept going AWOL from home (and his wife and kids). I guess these things affect people in different ways.

I've quite smoking several times. I weren't a heavy smoker, could be without smoking for months and usually just smoked when drinking or out and about. The I started dating a heavy smoker and even I started smoking more, even at work when things felt rough. Then I started smoking more and more, I think last summer it got to two-three packets a week, yeah still not really heavy, but enough for me. So I broke up with my fb, stopped smoking, finished at my work and started saving for a summer house. It's been really easy, partly because I've eliminated all the negatives and I've got a proper carrot to reach.
