So this movie comming out called Real Steel looks like it is going to be a joke to me. I have seen clips for it and some of them have ruined my day. I don't know why, just not my kind of movie and i hate Hugh Jackman. Then some how I came across the soundtrack for it. Maybe you all have seen it?

when does this kind of stuff become "selling out" or advertising as they described in many in of their lyrics from Hello Nasty an TT5B?
just a little confused and disappointed that such a cheesy looking movie got a b-boys track.

Thier songs have been in countless movies. Star Trek, Iron Man 2, CB4, The Jerky Boys, blah blah blah...
I think their point was not rapping for Master Card in tv commercials.
And if it bothers you and disturbs you so much. I would suggest in getting a hobby.

Stamp collecting can be tedious, but yes great suggestion.

Nearly 1300 posts in 8 years is actually pretty low. That's like 163 posts a year. I think some BBMB members bomb out 150 posts a week.
And I do have many a hobby. Cooking, painting, horse jumping, flag pole climbing, and speed dating.
Sorry if I hurt your pride Carson. I just have a habit of calling out bullshit when I see it.

This weak and literal argument has come up every single time a bb tracks winds up on a video game or movie soundtrack.
Do you see them selling their songs for tv advertising? Do you see them endorsing products on commercials?
They license their songs for movies that they normally support. My guess is someone knows the director from the world of comedies and independent films- you know, the other industry Yauch is highly involved in

what was bullshit? my inquiry? there are no stupid questions.
not to judge a book by its cover but did you see the billboard for this movie? so cheesy, that I imagine enzymes are binding to milk proteins while the introduction rolls.
I think I'd rather have my tunes endorsing nonprofits than any robot infused shoot-em-up. I don't hear anybody donating use of their music to a sustainable agriculture commercial or company like Newman's or Stonyfield. They need that hype.
I can call bs as well when I see it and I feel confident in calling this film bs.

I agree.
Especially with the last paragraph.
Shit guys, they dont mind that their song is there, and if thats what they chose to do as artists not much we can say or do about it. It's cool theyre getting play on something extra. :D
I've never heard a controversy start over a track on a movie or game before until just now haha I think its cool that theyre getting play on it!

Its not selling out, selling out would be them rapping about a trap house and their crack slanging carer, like new age rappers, WAKKA FLOCKA DOUCHE BAG, or if they opened up for a wiggles concert. Ahahaha
Cheesy movie, ENHANCED BY BEASTIE BEAUTY CHYEAH.

i see no difference in selling a song for a commercial or for a movie, especially since this movie could be a two hour long commercial for the new iToliet as many of these cinema movies are today. THEN dude, they did. they did.

your problem was that they weren't staying true to their words.
I might stick around or I might be a fad
But I won't
sell my songs for no TV ad
Ain't selling out to advertisers
What you get is what you see
And you
won't see me out there advertising
Real Steel, it's Rock Em Sock em Robots essentially. maybe the guys did this one for their kids, or for nostalgia(remember their t-shirts from the Pageant Tour?) who knows. but the difference is huge. they still control the content.
and who says they don't lend themselves to non-profits or charities?
business wise, HSC2 got plenty of exposure in games and films. they got to make the dough somehow if they aren't touring.
I just don't see it as "selling out" like you mention.

This conversation is played just like Turch said.
Yauch is heavily involved in film. Mike D's wife is a director...
They have kids. Their music. They have final say what and where their songs go.
Sheesh... This is stupid.

Artists are free to do what they feel like and soundtracks are cool!
I find it often amusing when I hear Beastie's music, especially on french tv programs, you hear it a lot, like on "fruits and vegetables" or "build your new house" no kidding!

i actually just saw a trailer for this on tv and i cant imagine the soundtrack list fitting itself into the film. it looks to be a father/daughter hugs and kisses movie with a little robot action. Im actually curious how 50 cent, eminem, beasties, and the goatee metal rappers limp bizkit will be worked in.

If the Bboys started making songs with NWA style of violence, they would probably lose all their fans and possibly be diagnosed with some sort of dementia.
This movie looks awful, that's my only problem. Why Real steel? With Yauch being involved in the film business I am sure he like any of us if not more is a critic of other films, I just don't get it.
I won't watch it.

Real Steel is based on a 1956 short story. It’s going be one of those heartwarming stories about alien/robots and human relationships. I love sci-fi with a good story behind it, so I’m gonna check it out and judge for myself. Yeah it’s going to be sappy and family oriented, but I would much rather see films like this than those cheesy ass attempts to remake Foot Loose and Fright Night.
And BB's songs have been used in a lot of films. Film and music go hand and hand. Music makes the motion picture and vise versa. Some soundtracks are bigger than the films themselves. I agree BB's are in total control of who and what uses their music. There could be all kinds of reasons that we aren't aware of as to why certain songs end up being used in a film.
