I was chatting with a couple of pals about them reforming a few days ago. I was a big Stone Roses fan and still regularly listen to their music. I am just a little worried that this is going to be a big disappointment - although I hope and pray that I am proved wrong. Still exciting though.

John Squire didn't have a lot to say and Ian Brown spent half the time playing with the bottles of water!
Best comment was from Reni, who was funny as hell.
Question: How much new stuff are we going to be expecting then?
Reni: 70 new stuffs
Tickets going on sale for the Manchester gigs on Friday!

john squire never had much to say anyway, i'd have been more worried if he'd been a chatterbox. he'll let his guitar do the talking!
there are 3 other big characters there so it must be a struggle for him, especially after everything. he was the one who split from the others really.
my fave bit of conference was when ian brown asked the daily mail journalist what was like working for the paper that supported hitler.

Yep, the poor guy didn't know what to say.
Are you planning to try and get tickets to one of the Manchester gigs, or see what other dates might come up?

bruv, i aint taking any chances, i am going to try and get tickets for the manchester gigs. Nothing has ever been certain about this band. We had to wiat 5 and half fucking years for a second album. They were due to play glasto until about 2 weeks beforehand. I'm not going to believe that the heaton park gigs are definitely going to happen til they are actually on stage.

I hope you had more luck than me? I was in the car for a couple of hours this morning and by the time I got somewhere that I could get online/call without getting cut off they had sold out :(

Did you get any tickets Guy I?? It's gonna turn into a bit of a circus i think....reckon loads of dates will be added.

I have tickets for the extra sunday show they put on after the first two sold out in quarter of an hour.
I do actually think that some new material may come out first or at least leaked in some way.
I hope it turns out to be something more than just a couple of gigs but i am not holding my breath
I am sick of all the "money grabbing because of divorce" comments. I really dont think thats their style, there has always been something of a disregard for making money in that band. They could have made a fortune but made some different decisions (some wise, some not), i really think this is bigger than money.

I think they're sincere...a friend put on twitter a link to an ebay sale of two tickets that went for like 8 grand or something! I tried to get tickets for a one_off Cure gig at Royal Albert Hall they're doing next month....needless to say all those went in about 20 seconds, gutted, they're playing out their first 3 albums in full. I just meant it may turn into a circus because of the demand....and if John Squires' a bit less keen than the others ....

i dont know if squire is reluctant or not. he was always quiet and i think he is very introverted, thought his comment about the meeting with brown that made the reunion "actually seeming possible, possibly enjoyable" says a lot about the man. AS i said , there has to be a quieter one in that lot. That mix of people and talent that band had/have? is rare.
anyway, there looks like more on the cards (http://www.thestoneroses.co.uk/)

well they turned up!
and they smashed it big time.
looked like a proper band and not 4 spearate figures like the first time i saw them on second coming tour.
the lights and screens were fantastic, proper good show and the songs flew by and it didnt rain!

Awww wow, you went! I regret not bothering now, looks as though it was amazing. I saw the Roses twice on 2nd Coming, once with the Manics at Wembley (great) and once at Reading Festival without John Squire (miserable way to remember them). Hope they come down south because I'm an idle southerner. No way am I going to shitty V fest to catch them.
I may be old but I admit I am loving the reunion tours! Happy Mondays were fooking great!

amazing is not the word.
there were so many great moments:
The lights.
The sound
Mani's Mani Utd guitar
John squire proving he is a rock genius.
Ian Browns Rap (including lines from Paid in Full)
Waterfall into dont stop
Fools Gold lasting for a quarter hour
the big cuddle at the end
flying thru 19 songs in two hours
not caring that they didnt do elephant stone
everyone smiling
mind blowing.

Ahhhh brilliant. Are you a Manc? Love the Roses.
Elephant Stone would have been fucking ace though, hey?
I just found out yesterday that Shane Meadows has been making a Roses film, can't wait for that!
I loved the Screamadelica show and the first Pixies reunion but am ever more gutted that I didn't go to this.

ahhhhh right, so it had a Hacienda design incorporated as well ?
As big Utd fans as well (Mani and Brownie anyways), fairplay to them for having the Hillsborough Justice band supporting them, and Cantona for getting on stage with them in Lyon

i think squire is a red as well. didnt know that about eric.
the justice band were really good actually. It was basically the farm, mick jones and a few more doing clash and the farm songs but it went down really well. all together now was brilliant, best i've ever heard it.

plus Brown and Squires made a few appearances with the Justice band earlier in the year, nice touch

Had a cracking day on Sunday. Never seen so many scalls being carted away by their mates after one too many snorts. Haha!
Shame about Plan B being the final support though - took away a lot of the momentum that had built up during the day.
I too would've liked Elephant Stone (and Breaking Into Heaven) but whatyer gonna do?

i was there sunday, did you manage to get in the front pit? We arrived just before 5 thinking there was no chance we'd get a wristband, legged it down there and it was easy, they were still letting people in there till quite late.
I dont mind plan b, his beatboxer is awesome
i was worried that the wait and expectation would be too much standing in the front pit for 5 hours but it flew by, really good atmosphere, lots of smiling and random banter.

Nah - I've lost the patience for pushing and shoving at gigs. I much prefer to stand at the sides/back with easy access to the bar nowadays (although the bar at HP was anything but easy access - apart from on Friday so I hear!).
I was quite far back; Out beyond the secondary speakers, but I could see the video screens well and at one point I think I almost made out Reni in person, although it might've been a spec of dust on me shades.

Was the sound alright back there? I'd heard it was a bit patchy far out on the friday. had to see if i could get in pit to try and get a good sound, i was panicking big time about this gig. dont think i have been more nervous than before the gig. just worried summat was gonna go wrong. I was just happy they turned up! But then they absolutely nailed it. Still buzzing.

Sound was good - could hear every instrument clearly. It was all really well balanced actually.
Ian Brown sounded amazing all night too... mainly because because he sort of blended in with the 75,000 singing along so any tuneless bits were masked :P

good to hear.
There are three things i noticed about the singing that point to the fact his vocals were all right
1. I wasnt that far away and i did hear the odd bum note under the crowd singing. But i didnt hear many.
2. The soundcheck featured cracking mani and reni right up, then a guy just picked a mic off the stage floor and just went "2" and it wasnt that loud.
3. Reni. not only did rock the drums he covered ian all night.
I've seen him do a lot lot worse

were the stone roses like Britain's version of nirvana? were these guys huge?
Guy Incognito
05-31-2013, 12:02 AM
they were just about to be huge really. They defined a certain time and had released a brilliant album that evryone caught on to , doing big gigs and had world at fingertips but then due to courtrooms, contracts, violence, drugs and some other stuff disappeared for 6 years and then imploded when they came back.
Not really like nirvana, the roses shot themselves in the foot rather than...
but the album still stands up as the greatest and still lots of love for them and are probably as big now as when they peaked in early nineties
