just hope its a good tournament and it doesnt get ugly. not sure what to make of all the reports about the fans at all.

i fully expect england to be knocked out at group stages.

The last time there was a match fixing scandal in italy was in 2006. What happened that year? My money is on the italians. The italians money is probably on whoever they are playing.

good start to tournament, lots of goals and incident. there's some really interesting games, the groups are all balanced very nicely.
I'm convinced England are going to go out with three 0-0 draws.
The Russians looked good yesterday but i still think netherlands or italy.

yeah, spain play like they think messi is gonna be on the end of everything.

when they won the world cup they had torres or that other fella.

Ireland were shocking last night, although i did laugh when somebody described the group with spain, italy and ireland in as the group of debt.

C'mon england, i'll settle for a close defeat.

For all the talk about Sweden, i'm still not confident about playing them. We always draw against sweden in tournaments. But i think we did all right, if we get thru that game with a chance then bring wayne back and it might be all right but i'm still going with us drawing all 3 and going out.

what are you on about? top4 finish?

it would mean they would qualify for the quarter final

Plus although they would qualify they might not necessarily win the group yet and potentially get a tougher quarter final draw. The Czech's could still win group.

Russia has the easiest track to the semis. Assuming they win group (which obviously was crippled by drawing Poland) they would likely end up facing Denmark, who would be a comparatively easy draw.

Obviously my prediction faces a lot more adversity now that they had a draw with Poland.

God dammit.

If anything, Russia learned the valuable lesson that you shouldn't let one win go to your head. They should have defeated Poland easily, but let it go to draw. It just goes to show that everything can fall to shit if you're too passive.

In other news, I can't wait for Greece to lose 4-0 to Germany. Maybe when it's over Germany will also offer to pay off the economic collapse in Greece as compensation for being the losers.

Yes I watched the 04 tournament, and as a supporter of both Spain and Portugal I was sick to my stomach. Greece represents a defensive style of football that I despise. I would rather watch MLS than Greece win another game. I'd rather watch Copa America. Or any other kind of soccer.

i would be just as surprised if italy went out at the group stage as if they won the tournament. so any where in between is also no surprise. the team is that much of an enigma. that talented yet that iffy.

i dont really see england as dynamic enough to beat italy, germany, and spain (or portugal or france) all in a row. but they do have a starting 11 of players on 1 million pounds a week in england. so by that number they sure as shit should be able to. but like i said, i dont think so.

i was very happy with how italy played. almost shocked how bad england was. ill put some of it to the new coach and everything but really, how can a team of a starting 11 that makes over 1 million pounds a week just not be good at all?

Guy Incognito

I dont think England were really bad, keeping the ball was an issue. The back four were immense, as a lesson in how to defend well, it was pretty good. Johnson, Cole, LEscott and Scumbag were excellent.
I just think we were tired, and were too afraid to get numbers forward and that let Rooney and welbeck look a bit out of ideas but they didnt have options.
Our battling qualities showed thru and maybe thats a british thing but its good to watch in a way.

we'll see. I think spain have coasted massively and this obsession with passing it into the net is becoming frustrating to watch and playing without a recognised stiker when you have got llorente and torres in the squad is just stubborn on the part of del bosque. I just think they are going to get a tough test from portugal but everyone has to show up not just ronaldo.

the italians faulty finishing made the english defense seem better than it really was to be honest. a more clinical team finishes perhaps 3 of those chances. a 3-0 loss looks a lot worse than going out on penalties.

and thats probably why the italians are going to go out against ze germans. at this level those chances must be converted.

disagree. Football is about chances and things happening. Its boring if one side has the ball all the time and does little with it. They have gifted and creative players, instead of always looking for the next pass so its an easy finish. have a shot, make something happen, take a risk. there was a few times last night that it was crying out for someone to have a go but no, turn back and pass it short. when they did go for it in extra time it was much better but there was more eagerness and desire

And I believe that football is about ball control, possesion, discipline and complete confidence in where and what your teammates are up to on the pitch...your opponent can not score without the ball it's elementary...they pick their moments, drives and shots with great precision...they're are just as deadly offensively when it comes together...I've never seen a team pass in the backfield with such defensive grace as was demonstrated in the Portugal match...stunning stuff...the media focus should be on the amazing game in game out performances of Iniesta,Xavi and Ramos...they are all having an extraordinary tournament ,especially with David Villa and Puyol's abscence...

its frustrating to watch at times. I'm not saying there isnt a lot of skill and craft etc. They are capable of brilliance but i dont think they are as amazing as everyones going on about. There's a degree of overkill about all that. But they havent developed cutting edge.As your Brazilian you have to agree that even the best Brazil sides, yeah they kept the ball amazing but they still let fly from all angles, tried all kinds of stuff to score goals and played with tempo. They didnt pass it to death like Spain are guilty of. And it can be a bit slow.

I see your point. You feel like they tire the spectator who wants to see a more exciting match. I don't disagree with that. But you can deny Spain is a goddamn effective team. Yes, they can be very pragmatic (I wouldn't say boring though). But since you have the control of the ball you don't permit the other team to score. And that's why they are on their 3rd consecutive final.

And personally I think it's beautiful their passing style.

i cant deny it doesnt get results but i just think that sometimes instead of looking for the next little pass in the penalty area, someone should just put their foot through the ball sometimes. I really don't like Balotelli but.... what a goal!!!

Poor Neuer didn't even see the ball.

Balotelli's on a mission to make a statement that's about a whole lot more than just the game...so look out and brace yourselves hermanos...(y)

I'm glad Italy made through. It would be a shame if that was last Pirlo's game in this EURO. It's a pleasure seeing him on the field.

honestly i think pirlo should be in the category for the ball d'or. messi scored a shit ton but didnt win anything. ronaldo scored a shit ton but was hot and cold in euros and team only won la liga. pirlo played great all serie A season and won it. and now has a chance for euros, and probably has been the best player so far. a guy that isnt blessed with the athletic ability of c.ron or messi but with the skills vision and football iq that puts him in a class of his own.

well, season 2011-2012 messi won spanish supercup, UEFA supercup, club world cup and spanish cup. semifinal in champions league and 2nd in Liga.... its not like he didnt win anything ;)

the fair thing would be: take back Cannavaro's ball d'or and give it to pirlo, and messi win this year's one :)

yea truuu i did think he won the spanish cup but couldnt be bothered to look it up. but thats nothing in the grand scheme. however i doubt he would get it over c.ron this year both scoring so much and both going out in the semis of the CL and ron winning la liga. but if they go by just winning their leagues and pirlos won his and had a much better showing in euros then....the argument could be made imo.

any could win and its not a bad choice.

When i think about it, Italy have been best side to watch and i want them to win as it makes our match with them a bit more palatable, we're the only team so far not to concede an italian goal (although that was down to the azzuri's finishing really!)

Ballotelli to get golden boot. He's played really well and been quite sensible..for him anyway. Even as united fan, i love watching him. Has been best centre forward of tournament.

Spain was way better than us yesterday, however I'm still glad... we've made it through the final, that's not bad at all! :p

I can easily say that was a massacre last night.

Congrats to Spain! Still dominating the game, still showing how football should be played. Watch and learn other teams. Please, watch and learn! ;)

I was out last night so missed game, caught highlights and it looked like Spain really had a go at Italy and went for it, and had the cutting edge i'd been whingeing about so fair do's to them.
