Two classic voices of New York music will take their place in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame this year.
They include The Beastie Boys, who brought a rock-tinged, snot-nosed, Lower East Side, sensibility to Bronx hip-hop, helping it cross-over to the mainstream in the '80s.
Then there's Laura Nyro, who employed an unprecedented mix of Spanish Harlem soul and Broadway sophistication to create some of the most indelible pop songs of the '60s, from "Wedding Bell Blues" to "Stoney End."
At the same time, Hall voters honored two prime examples of California guitar-music: Guns N Roses, who turned gritty, Sunset Strip-centric heavy metal into a world wide phenomena, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, who matched L.A. pan-sexuality to a newly muscular brand of funk and rock.
The HOF made a significant nod to the U.K. as well for 2012, ushering in Donovan, the first poster child for English flower power who also provided a key link between the early ’60s British folk revival and the decade's later advances into psychedelia.
The final inductee for 2012 also epitomizes British music, but in two key guises — the classic mod-era group Small Faces and that band’s later incarnation as The Faces.
The earlier “Small” group featured soulful lead singer Steve Marriott, while the latter Faces coalesced around an ever better-known, scratchy-voiced frontman: Rod Stewart.
The class of 2012 will also boast blues guitarist Freddie King (in the category of “Early Influences”), and impresario Don Kirshner (in the non-performer slot). In the category of “musical excellence,” the hall will induct engineer supreme Tom Dowd (best known for his soulful Atlantic recordings of the late ’60s), New Orleans R&B engineer Cosimo Matassa and classic-rock producer Glyn Johns, who oversaw iconic works from “Who’s Next” to The Stones’ “Sticky Fingers.”
Artists nominated this year who got left out in the cold, include The Cure, Eric B. & Rakim, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Rufus with Chaka Khan, Donna Summer, The Spinners and War.
The latest list of inductees shows a marked bent towards rock of a more recent era. Guns N Roses get in with their very first nomination, the Chili Peppers with their second. Artists have to have a discography dating back 25 years to be eligible.
The induction ceremony April 14 will be in Cleveland, just the third time this 27-year-old event has taken place in the museum's home city instead of New York.

Rock Hall Inductees 2012: Guns N' Roses, Beastie Boys Make Grade
by Gary Graff, Detroit | December 07, 2011 3:30 EST
Cleveland Also Calls Up Red Hot Chili Peppers, Faces, Laura Nyro & Donovan
Ian MacLagan of the Small Faces and Faces put it best: "There's going to be some rock 'n' roll up on that stage" at the 27th Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductions, taking place April 14 in Cleveland.
MacLagan's bands will be joined in a Rock Hall class of 2012 by Guns N' Roses, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Beastie Boys, along with the late singer-songwriter Laura Nyro and the British troubadour Donovan. The late bluesman Freddie King will be inducted as an Early Influence, while writer and producer Don Kirshner will receive posthumously the Ahmet Ertegun Award for non-performers. Three producers -- the late Tom Dowd, Glyn Johns and New Orleans R&B icon Cosimo Matassa -- will receive The Award For Musical Excellence.
The lineup provides plenty of intrigue for the 2012 induction ceremony. It will mark the Beastie Boys' first major public appearance since the group's Adam "MCA" Yauch announced that he had cancer in July of 2009.
On the Guns N' Roses front, meanwhile, fans are anxious to see if the estranged original band members will regroup to perform or even appear together to accept their trophies. Last month guitarist Slash told Billboard.com that "with Guns 'N Roses, there's really no guessing exactly how it will go. I suppose if it happens, everybody will get some sort of ducks in order." Frontman Axl Rose, the only founding member left in the GNR lineup, said on VH1's "That Metal Show" that "I don't know what it means in terms of me with the old band and the old lineup. If we were to be invited, I don't know what they would ask of me. It's up in the air."
There likely won't be any similar issues for the Chili Peppers, who are currently touring in Europe to support their new "I'm With You" album, or Donovan. And MacLagan tells Billboard.com that some representation from the Small Faces/Faces camp will "absolutely" perform.
"You can't stop us," says MacLagan, who's played some Faces dates with guitarist Ron Wood, drummer Kenney Jones and Simply Red's Mick Hucknall filling in for Rod Stewart. MacLagan says Stewart -- who missed his own Rock Hall induction in 1994 due to an earthquake in Los Angeles two days prior -- is expected to attend the April ceremony. "If he comes up on stage that would be full circle, perfect," the keyboardist notes.
MacLagan adds that he still feels ambivalent about the Small Faces and Faces being lumped together as one entity. "But I'll take it, if that's how we get it," he says. "It would've been nice to have separate mentions, but it may never have happened that way, so I'll take it this way. I'm excited, especially for (late members) Ronnie (Lane) and Steve (Marriott)."
The April ceremony will be taped for broadcast by HBO, which plans to air it in early May. Like the 2009 inductions, which were also held in Cleveland, the April event will be open to the public; tickets go on sale for Rock and Roll Hall of Fame + Museum members at 10 a.m. Dec. 16, and to the general public at 10 a.m. the next day. Tickets are $50 and $100, with a two-ticket limit on all orders. More information is available at www.rockhall.com.
In addition to the induction ceremony, the Rock Hall will host more than a week of special events, including the grand opening of its revamped library and archives, concerts -- including a gospel tribute -- and educational programs. Details will be announced in the near future.

We're in the rock and roll hall of fame? That's f----n' crazy and awesome ! While we are very proud of the music we make, we have to acknowledge the inspiration from our families, friends and musicians like the slits, bad brains, x-ray spex, the treacherous three and too many others to possibly name. And most of all, we give thanks to New York City and the world of musical influence it provided for us.- Beastie Boys

HAHA sounds like the King to me. ;) Yauch is more reserved and sentimental. Mike is more technical. If it were Mike he would be thanking more people. Just a guess based off of my assessment of them lol.
Either way I hope I can snab a ticket that morning when they go on sale. I am nervous about that! And then not knowing if all three will accept it together. I just hope come April things will be bright as a (lb)

It's a joke kido...
Tix go on sale Dec 17th. $50-$100.
There is a presale on the 16th if you're a RRHF member.
I already have my spring vacation plans lined up and it doesn't involve Cleveland.
Fuck hobnobing around with G'n'R fans. Fucking hate those cats.
The RRHF is cool. Been there once. Not sure if I really need to ever go there again. Unless Johnny Cash comes back from the dead and does a one time show with Daft Punk.
Then maybe I might go back.

So are they going to perform???? I mean, I want Yauch to be OK, they will attend and say thanks and all, but will they perform? If so my homie milkboy might have to get out the ole extra cot to make way for me to fly out from the west, back home to CLEVELAND (not the first place I thought I might see the Beastie Boys perform again haha).
