View Full Version : Comic conventions and similar. Need nerds helps.
I'm planning a trip to the top right (North East for you college majors) of North America next year. Only concrete plan so far is to be in Boston on St Paddys day (seeing dropkick murphys!!),
Anyway, I want to tick another box and go to a comic convention. Although I'm not big on it I like the culture and read plenty of online comics, but I'm more into gaming. So I want to go to a fairly big one which covers a few genres in North East USA in March - recommendations?
I have been looking at http://www.geekcal.com but not sure which'd be best. Oh, my partner will be with me and although she is also a bit of a geek, I can't bore her too much.
I don't mind going a little further afield but I have no plans to stray from the east coast much although the best ones seem to be in California.
edit: I think I am asking too much actually but I still want your suggestions.

Yes! Yes I will! It'll be the St Patricks Day week tho although we'll be in Lowell on St Paddys Day for the Dropkick gig - although we dunno if we're gonna stay somewhere near there or just take the train from somewhere in Boston yet. It depends on if the trains run late that night to ship people back to the city?
it sounds like PAX East (http://east.paxsite.com/) is literally exactly what you're looking for. I've been twice, and the main draw is the big-ass video game convention, but there's other nerdy shit there too like tabletop and board games if you're into that. lots of panels and stuff
bring hand sanitizer and get ready to smell a lot of BO though, there's a lot of gnarly-smelling dorks there
it's in April, dunno if you'll be around for it, but it's a good time if you're nerdy enough. the people-watching is fun too even if you're not a nerd
it usually sells out though, so if you plan to go, you may want to order a ticket soonish

I'll be at the same show! We all will have to get a meet up going or something!

Awesome - I'm the evening show.

That does look exactly what I am looking for but I doubt I'll be around still then. Looks good even though I think I'm the only person who isn't a fan of Penny Arcade who is a fan of web comics and gaming.

Just an FYI Lowell is icky. It really has become safer over the years, but still isn't the greatest town.
How long are you in Boston for?

Lowell just happened to be where they are playing, we got tickets for the show knowing nothing about the areas and just assumed it was Boston, only later we found out it wasn't - they actually play in Boston either side of patrick's day.
Not sure how long we'll be in Boston for. Max will be 4 days but we'll be in the country & canada up to three weeks. Depending on the city we fly to as well it might mean we're in Boston twice where we'd do two days each time or something.
