What does everyone think about this, which song was Mike D, Adrock, and MCA at their best on? I started thinking and it's pretty hard but this is my thoughts.

Mike D- Kills Tadlocks Glasses
Adrock- Stands out on OK
MCA- is kinda hard but i'll have to go with too many rappers cuz its the only reason I listen, he blows everyone out of the water on that song. Nonstop would be a close 2nd

I think they come together best on Here's a Little Something for Ya

MCA's best is on Lee Majors

Adrock's best is on Long Burn

Mike D I think has the best rhymes of the three I don't know what his would be.

It’s nearly impossible for me to pick a best for MCA. A few that stand out to me are Make Some Noise, Long Burn the Fire and Here’s A little Something for Ya, oh and Tadlock’s Glasses. Never mind, I can’t do it.

Adrock- Long Burn The Fire

Mike D- Nonstop Disco Powerpack

Adrock - Nonstop Disco (he flows like water down your toilet bowl, so)

MCA - Long Burn (I mean, he's got dragon wings and shoots lazers out his eyes)

Mike - Tadlock's (flips your omelette at the B deezer, nuff said)

I'm gonna have to say Long Burn the Fire is both MCA's and AdRock's best.

Mike D's got to be pop your balloon.

I tend to agree with McDuff on his choices.

Also, all in all, I think MCA shines the most on the last album. It really seems like he stepped it up a notch for this one. He was able to take some of the jabber styles I've seen him do in shows for years and make it work in the studio. And with crazy lines like "if you feel chilly I'ma get you a shawl"? How can you fuck with that? Only MCA could pull that off.

Defiantly agree with both (y)
But i dont think i could pick which song suits each member best , i think they all sounded fresh. Howev, i did notice that MCA took over on most of the chorus's on the whole album. In a way( im just throwing my opinion out there) i think the band sort of dedicated the album to MCA, with providing most of the song for him to sing, y'know what im sayin?! Maybe for his cancer, im not sure, but it makes sense.:)

I think it was a conscious call (or not conscious, but like, Beastie Boys conscious which is probably not conscious) to put MCA up front a little more.

There had been mad talk of him getting more shine on the boards in the couple of pre HSC years, and the album is clearly indicative of at least a little board-scanning by the band or their associates in its ideas and execution. Following his work on the Mix Up which was front and centre and mostly pretty tight, it made sense.

He's got mad hooks, he sounds 'live', there are basslines everywhere, Tadlock's even sounds like something he'd make with the dub effects he liked using on Build A Nation. And of course Multilateral which is basically carried by him.

It's like a natural progression in that albums like IC and CYH were characterised by Adrock/D's high-pitched nasal tones, and how certain 90s era albums were commonly thought to 'belong' to one member more than others etc etc (in particular Hello Nasty).

This is definitely an MCA album to the core, which probably made his news in 2009 just a little suckier to bear.

He stands out on Multilateral or Tadlock's, D on TMR, and Adrock on Make Some Noise. IMO.

"Make Some Noise" is the leadoff track and nothing makes me smile bigger or feel more comforted than MCA's distinct, gravelly voice commanding our attention

MCA’s cavernous growl sifts effortlessly alongside the beat, this time not letting the studio effects get in his way.

Most encouragingly, MCA sounds hungrier than ever, boding well for the still unfinished "Hot Sauce Committee Part One" and the Beasties' future.

OK I could go on forever about it and I am sure none of you would be surprised if I did. :p That is why I can't choose really which is his best because his voice is just amazing in my humble fan GIRL opinion......

I haven't really sat down and analyzed who stood out more on what album because even if one did, it always seemed like a group effort to me in the end. Like even on Hot Sauce if MCA is doing a lot of the vocals the other two are right there editing so I guess to me it doesn't matter... they are all ONE entity. I love seeing each one shine alone too..

I am blabbling now... I just love them. :o

hmmm, interesting. I've carried the notion that Yauch is the least involved these days on the music end, considering all his extra-cirricular activities (i.e. the movie biz, his religion, family). Which isn't to say he's not involved to a high degree, just less than the King and D. I have noticed there has been far less to his basslines over the last decade, which is kinda a bummer. They sound like they're always 2 to 3 note type things these days as opposed to the real heavy or jazzed out extended riffs and improvs of the 90s. Like on TMU, I feel like the bass was the leakest link, which was a surprise to me to say the least. Dude was lyrically on point this time around though, I agree whole-heartedly. Some of his best work, and he sounded alot more enthusastic and live than on TT5B.

Yeah, me and my long time buddy who also happens to be a Beastie Boys freak both said that this was MCA's album more than any one of theirs since at least Check Your Head. And I love it for that. I really feel sometimes like he's the glue of the group.

To answer the question, I'd go like this:

Adrock- Nonstop Disco
MCA- Long Burn the Fire
Mike D- I dont know, really. Nothing really jumps out at me off the top of my head.

I think the most impressive thing to me out of the whole album was their 2nd verse as a group on Dont Play No Game. The way they split up every other word going from one to the next to the next and then back the opposite way was just genius. Hadn't heard anything like that from them since Hello Nasty.

the great thing about hsc2 is the bringing together of all their styles and tricks into something that the fans can get really excited about.
after years of experimentation and different styles and concepts they made an album of all their best bits and made an album as cool and diverse as IC or CYH when no one really expected them to.
