i did think this weekend was really dead but there have been quite a few good threads recently that have had a lot of people posting rather than some people posting about lots of different silly things.

Forums are an old format and many of us cross platform by being facebook and twitter friends also - although I'm not using either of those much either.

But the original purpose of the forum - to talk about beastie crap - is still there on the top shelf, but the talking mindless section is now done in facebook/twitter. Plus we're all old now, a lot of us are out of our early twenties with life taking up our time, renovating basements, getting married, having babies, finding/losing religion.

It's not just social media, it's the ability to be 'friends' through said media. It shows you that people are just good cunts and you are lucky to know them, so beef doesn't pop off so easily.

I think it's just a shift in digital communities. Like, when is the last time you went to a chat room to talk to people you didn't know? The gimmicks of the late 90's internet have all grown old and so have the users. Why don't people play Guitar Hero religiously anymore? Where has Wii Bowling gone from all the parties? You either evolve with the trends or be stuck as a "well in my day" sort of person.

Honestly though, new media communications are replacing a lot of quality interaction. Too much and too accessible is making us all spoiled and entitled, but the answer really isn't to limit accessibility. That won't fix anything.

The bbmb is fun because of old friends, but also because you can post very personal things and get non-biased advice without your gran finding out.
