scary things:

the whole concept of that.

I didnt know that style of preaching/"comedy" even existed. Dennis Godfeary?

reminded about the time ned flanders got tickets to chris rock.

the really scary thing was that he was playing in a big room and loads of people buying into it.

I know, I've never been more frightened by a "comedian".

I watched some other clips and almost cried. I literally had a nightmare based on that dude. Except in my dream, he was being introduced by a big fat guy who dropped something and couldn't pick it up because he was too big.

Yeah things are getting scarier no doubt.

Since the 70's the Left has moved to the Right and the Right has moved to the Right, and this hardcore far right Christian fundamentalism is growing... and rejection of science seems to be growing in popularity. Rejection of the Theory of Evolution.. which is backed up by vast, vast, vast (vast!) amounts of evidence, rejection of science around human caused climate change...

Every single step for the better humankind has experienced has come from science or philosophy... and this growing fundamentalism wants to reject it all and take us back to the stone ages.

I had an argument the other day with an extreme Christian fundamentalist who told me that is has been proven that man and dinosaur coexisted, and creation science has proven the Earth is 6000 years old 'time and time again...' how do you argue against such blind fervour?? You certainly can't with logic and reason and evidence, they don't understand any of those.

In my city a group called the Adelaide Street Preachers, a pseudo Westboro Baptist Church has been preaching with megaphones and big signs in our mall every Friday night, and creating so much hostility, it makes me very sad.

It feels like to me we are going back in time, we are unevolving. Its 2012 for fuck sake.

This is bizarre - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1xUiuZvUuw

He is not very funny, I mean nothing in his skit was remotely funny. Perhaps he can be funny but his tolerance level and bias descriptions of those who are not in lockstep with his belief system put a HUGE damper on the laughs.

Most of the skit he's a pompous asshole.

Notice how all the white folks (people like us, he says) give him a standing ovation.

haha the first point about godney offending atheists is pretty funny though.

I see such militant atheism from some people, it may as well be a set of beliefs. The longer the concept of god and religion is even given the dignity of an atheistic counter-argument, the longer we preserve it against all better judgement.

This certainly won't be resolved in our lifetime, but humanity will come right in the future. It will have to.

freedom of speech is the key, he can say what he wants and i suppose we should be thankful of youtube in that everyone can make their own mind up about what he's saying. sure some will agree but if this threads anything to go by most people will see it for the bigoted, small minded bullshit that it is.

It's not really bigoted to go at atheists, though is it? Atheism is at its core about the systematic dismemberment of any argument for an all powerful being/holy kingdom and such and such. The god squad have the right of reply.

That we even have these debates such as those raised in the original video and its subsequent responses is as much the problem as faith and adherence to religious doctrine itself.

Firstly, this is comedy? Well it's not funny. Secondly, I'm an atheist and nothing he says applies to me. So where is his argument now? I'm not offended by a fake God, I don't think any atheists are.

When I made my oath of allegiance to the Queen and all that shit, because I listed myself as an atheist, my words were changed, because how can I swear upon a God I don't believe in? Not that I care, but it doesn't go further than that and I wouldn't have even been bothered should I have been made to do the old Christian lyrics!

I don't think I've met a militant atheist, honestly. All the fervor is from the "christians" as far as I can tell. They want to change our laws to suit their religious beliefs and they're getting away with it in some cases.

Pennsylvania House of Representatives declare 2012, "the year of the bible": http://www.examiner.com/atheism-in-scranton/pa-house-of-representatives-declare-2012-to-be-year-of-the-bible

wtf? I was raised Christian for the most part, but grew into an agnostic...my mom considers herself to be a Christian, but is socially liberal. she's always said, "when you get older, you might find you come back to the church", but the older I get, the more I see what a farce it all is. Atheists should fight back, I'm not one (I think I might be a deist), but I can't see how it's fair to cater everything to religious freaks. They're selfish pricks, they don't want freedom, they hate learning, and they don't want diversity. They want everyone to follow the bible. well, I won't, I fucking won't...especially not since it apparently produces some of the grossest most arrogant people I've ever met or seen.

bad comedy mixed in just really disgusts me, I want to sneak into brad stine's house at night, shave his head and burn all his silk shirts.

i've met some pretty douchey atheists, but not so often since i graduated college

i think the main reason i'm an atheist is because i wasn't raised religious, so if wanted to belong to a religion i'd have to pick one as an adult. and there are just so many to choose from, and they all make such tempting offers--i don't know how a reasonable person could look at one and say "yep, that's the one true faith, that's what i'm going to devote my life to"

so i haven't. what if i picked the wrong one? then i'd just go to hell anyway. if that is what's eventually going to happen, then i might as well have fun while i'm on earth

I think when you watch as much NOVA as me, it's hard to accept that religion is anything but a man-made coping mechanism for people who can't process or don't want to think about complex concepts.

plus, when I did go to church in my younger years, I was more fascinated by the building the services took place in than the content of the services. and it seemed to me that people mostly just liked to gossip about each other during "fellowship" time. that, or they just kept saying stuff like, "glory be to God", or "we're blessed", etc. What seriously does that even mean?

I might have mentioned this before, but once I was at a church service with my mom and somebody up at the pulpit was telling a story about how a van full of missionaries was in a near-miss accident on the highway that killed another car full of people. and I think that flipped a switch in me, because why the fuck would God kill a car full of people in the first place? and then "choose" to save the van full of missionaries? what if the car full of people were Christians?

ugh, I'm getting angry all over again. needless to say, we never visited that church again. My mom's still got jesus fever, but she's not an asshole.

Make sure you get baptized on your death bed at least. that should cover everything. if you die accidentally, well, try to remember to say, "I ACCEPT YOU JESUS AS MY SAVIOR" before you croak. say it real loud.

Belief is one thing, acting upon it is another. By act I mean ramming it down other people's throats and hindering rational thought.

Is this guy aware that there are unicorns in the bible? Maybe he is, I found it hard to follow his point.

Obviously it is not god offending non-believers so much as the actions of believers trying to force their views on others.

And conservatives get offended by non-existent entities all the time. Like noone thinks Mass Effect is real, but they sure got offended when Shepherd started fucking aliens.

the best thing about the mass effect controversy was that some woman who wrote a book about it ended up later admitting that she never actually saw the scene in question and that when she finally did watch it, she was like "oh, that's all it was? that's not so bad"

or something
