Hey everyone, I just got my registration completed and I wanted to introduce myself and tell this ooooooooold story (nearly a decade old) and maybe re-connect with some of the people I met that day.
We have to go back October of 2004 before the iPhone, before the Android and right before the 2004 election. After making the trip to Dallas to see the Beastie Boys at the American Airlines Center, I started walking around the outside of the arena and who do I see but Ad-Rock! I went up to him and started talking, we were joined by a few others (one of whom had an ongoing saga with his VW emblem necklace which was given to Mike D in New Orleans), I recall Alfredo and Earl (their security at the time) and being joined eventually by Mike D, Money Mark, Cey Adams, and MCA. At this point, I have to say, that they were some of the nicest people I have met in my life, just standing outside, talking to us. I remember asking Ad-Rock if they could do “Hello Brooklyn” during the show....
Cut to the inside of the arena. I am in my seat, stage right, when Cey Adams passes by and says to wait and not go anywhere. Soon after, I have Earl coming up to give me a wristband to the pageant pit. Before the show I remember the guy (whose name is seriously evading me right now) getting his necklace back from Mike D. What happened after was one of the best shows I have ever seen in my life, “Hello Brooklyn” included. I ended up getting some autographs (see the picture) and the setlist.
I think about the 6-7 hours involved in the experience that day occasionally and sit there in disbelief over how cool everyone I encountered was. I was a 22 year old kid going through some pretty crazy shit (my mom has kidney failure and had been through a really rough 6 months prior to this, she ended up getting a transplant in 2005 however) and I have to say that the whole experience on the 23rd of October 2004 lessened the awfulness of that year.
I never really had a chance to thank any of the guys for the generosity and cool stuff they did for me, so in the off chance that they actually see this, thanks.
Anthony
P.S. VW emblem dude! Are you out there!?
