First the back story: I was listening to Pandora radio and (obviously) I was on the Beastie Boys channel and anyone who knows anything about these radio apps knows that they play similar music; not just the artist you choose. So a Tupac song showed up, who I like but i'm not a giant fan of, and it was " I Get Around "...I'm sure most people have heard of the song but just in case:

Now listen to the part when the second man comes in (Shock G if you're wondering)

Notice anything?

"Baby I can see, that you don't recognize me
I'm Shock G, the one who put the satin on your panties"

Sound familiar? Mike D says the same thing in "Three The Hard Way" from to the 5 boroughs.

Now I googled this and looked up annotated lyrics and no one noticed this....any thoughts?

They quote lyrics all the time. Think of it as an homage or a nod.

Check out the movie Krush Groove. You'll hear RUN DMC go...we we won't get gonged were RUN DMC not Cheech and Chong.

Also lemon to a lime a lime to a lemon was taken from the fat boys

I'm not sure how old you are or your history of hip-hop, but the people on this board "have noticed this" decades ago.

But here are a couple clues.

Run-DMC wrote Paul Revere and Slow and Low, so a bunch of those rhymes might sound familiar.

Also lemon to a lime a lime to a lemon wasn't taken from the Fat Boys. It's a rhyme that was kicked way before by MC's like Busy B and Cold Crush Brothers.

If you went to Beastiemania and looked up songs in question they'd probably give you the source material that the B-Boys snagged their rhymes from.

For example: "I can see that Def Jam doesn't recognize me/I'm Mike D, the one who put the satin in your panties" - refers to Def Jam Records profiting from the release of Licensed to Ill. Additionally, the lyric "I'm Mike D, the one who put the satin in your panties" is borrowed from "I Get Around" by Tupac Shakur (featuring Money B & Shock G ("Baby I can see, that you don't recognize me/I'm Shock G, the one who put the satin on your panties")

Do your homework. You'd be blown over on what you'll find.

Wow!

Crazy shit right? But I still think that's an incredible coincidence.
