If you count Drum Machine then I will definitely change my vote!
I must add, not sure how many fans like the very early Beastie era but they sounded so seasoned and fresh in those songs. Drum Machine is pretty amazing!

i would say thats a side project, cause then you would have to add "rock this", "suspicion" etc.

Nothing beats Yauch's verse in Prof Booty but with this list the Vow has it in my book

Namaste doesn't really qualify, surely?
Anyway, Year and a Day. Stand Together is a close second since he played the guitar on that. And Resoultion Time has been a long-time personal favourite also.

Yeah this could easily go off topic because I immediately thought about Prof Booty.... but if it's just for Beastie Boys song solos then Flowin Prose is my pick.

I don't see why not - he's not rapping, but like all the others it's just his vocals through the whole thing.

But it's not like he does vocals at all on the live version on 'Sabotage'. And it's his vocal on Lighten Up also but that's missing. And on the same token you'd have to include To All The Girls for being pretty much the same type of thing as Namaste. Just saying; there's vocals and then there's vocals.

I thought about Lighten Up - but I do believe the others say stuff in it..."shine like the sun" plus I don't think he's the only one saying "lighten up, gotta lighten up..."
To All The Girls is a legit option - I realized I forgot it after it was too late.
I don't get the Sabotage reference.

I'm going to have to disagree. 'Namaste' is more of a poem, whereas 'To All The Girls' is a straight up novelty. One is artsy and philosophical, the other is goofy and flippant.

So Year and a Day and Stand Together have the top votes. (y) It’s interesting being such a big Yauch fan and Stand Together is one of my least favorite B-boy tracks! I decided to list them from most favorite to least. Another cool thing I found out about I Don't Know is that many young folks are making their own youtube videos singing or playing the music to that song. That song could be used for so much more... it's a hidden gem!
Flowin Prose
The Update
I Don't Know

Stand Together
A Year And A Day

edit: glad to see I don't know get a vote! ON MCA doing it all, not sure. All I know is that he mentioned the idea came to him when he was in the studio.. I know they hired those musicians to play on it too soo...

I voted for I dont know. Why?
I dont know.
What i mean is i really love that song, its one of my all time favourite songs, let alone favourite bboys songs. It means a lot to me but i havent really thought of it belonging to Yauch, obviously i can hear his influence sure but i just love it cos its great not thru anybody's contribution to it.
(Is this where someone tells me MCA did everything on that track?)

I think Yauch joint should be either Yauch rapping alone or singing alone. Namaste is basically an instrumental with a softly spoken poem over the top. I can see the difference.
That said I wouldn't include Lighten Up as it seems like more of a 'band' effort. Incidentally, I think the 'Shine like the Sun' line is a sample.
In any case, it's all up for debate. Sabotage is a good case in point. It's Adrock on lead vocals throughout, but it would be weird to call it an 'Adrock joint.'
In any case, as KP put it, there is really isn't much else to talk about... I always found it interesting to read in the Anthology booklet how vocals were decided. Some of those Yauch cuts are obviously his lyrics throughout, and sometimes the style i.e. the bossanova shit, seems to come from his inspiration. He also gets far more 'solo' turns than the others... In any case, I'll stick with Stand Together. Worked very nicely as an opener in unison with the others too.

A Year For A Day was for me a highlight of not just Yauch's solo vocal tracks but of the whole of Paul's Boutique. And probably their whole catalogue. So it gets the vote for me.

It's all good. On the Sabotage VHS there's a live version of Namaste, played as a straight instrumental (minus some Hurra adlibs). It's dope. There would be no way he would or could do the 'poem' and play uprights to a reasonable standard, hence why I've never considered it a Yauch joint. The other tracks, he could probably perform as recorded.
You'll also note they stripped the vocal off Namaste on In Sound (and I can concede they did the same with Lighten Up if I recall correctly). Again, just saying.
I know it's too nerdy a point for its own good (and I apologise, this is how I kill time - I like this band but I'm an appalling geek), but I hope it's at least based in some form of reason and not just disagreeing for the sake of it with flimsy subjective counter-points.

Beastie Boys-Resolution Time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pTr8oZ4p9rA
Actin' like the last generation on earth
You're gonna fuck up a place for new birth
You're cutting the last of the forests on the planet
Only a few hundred years since Columbus landed
Well it's due time that we look and pay attention
As the windows who knows show the knowledge with us
'Cause it's the one that we prayed for, from on the earth
I give the wisdom to folks, you know whole worth
In these great times we still neglect
When they invent this land, don't give the due respect
'Cause the FBI and the CIA
The whole federal government, the FDA
Well, the system doesn’t work and it must be changed
And there's more people in the pen everyday
So I visualize resolution
Yo, everyday is in a state of evolution
Evolution time
Evolution time
Revolution time
Revolution time
Revelation time
Revelation time
Resolution time
Resolution
We come a long way with the peace in the East
But on the home front, they're wild in the streets
As it gets got hear a changing in same
And this is the Millennium still felt today
I hear the same stories time after time
The stories of fear, through violent crimes
Committed by hatred by satient beings
Who shall loose by kindness and it's plain to see
Now we don't have to stand for this oppression any longer
If we stand together, there's nothing stronger
We must interconnect it as though we sure have won
If we want to avoid planetary destruction
So I work and I work because the hate in my mind
Has assumed the truth and I know I'll find
And I visualize resolution
See it all as a state of constant evolution
Evolution time
Evolution time
Revolution time
Revolution time
Revelation time
Revelation time
Resolution time
Resolution
The world leaders were terrified of loosing their pride
Their spoiled children tellin' little wack lies
Vanishing numbers of unimaginable destruction
Sure as we boast they're at their last production
Threatening and challenging nature against nation
Walkin' down the road of total annihilation
Sprouting threats is insecure
Guns are for the fighting and they're immature
And it all stems from self-important police
Thinking that we're better than our fellow human beings
So I wanna empower the limit I can
And pass it along so we can do pass the pan
Some times I sit and I watch my mind
Watchin' my thoughts as they reel and wind
And stop and visualize resolution
For everyday is in a state of evolution
Evolution time
Evolution time
Revolution time
Revolution time
Revelation time
Revelation time
Resolution time
Resolution

Back from Japan. I found a lot of Beastie merchandise but nothing particularly Japanese or anything I couldn't get in the States. But interestingly enough the 1st day I was there I flipped on the TV and heard a snippet of "Girls" during some commercial for a TV show (I think it was some sort of game show).
