Apple Supplier in China Pledges Big Labor Changes (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/30/business/apple-supplier-in-china-pledges-changes-in-working-conditions.html?_r=1&hp=&pagewanted=all) from NYTimes 3/29/2012

story starts out like this,

Responding to a critical report about its factories, Foxconn, a leading Asian company that makes electronic products for Apple, Dell, Amazon and others, has pledged to sharply curtail the number of working hours in its Chinese factories and significantly increase wages, a move that could improve working conditions across China.

This bugs me to no end.

I don't mean to pick on Apple because I know Microsoft, Dell, HP, Sony, IBM, Motorola, Intel, Sun, Epson, Lexmark, etc. are just as guilty. But Apple is a grossly high end priced product + snooty as fuck. My stupid iPad is the least favorite tech product I've ever purchased.

Manufacturing jobs and skilled technical jobs are in China, but the CEO's stay in California USA. The bulk of retail jobs and stores are here in the USA to get USA money.

3 families on my block had major incomes lost through loss of their jobs the past year. Fuck. I hate to sound all isolationist and stuff but why can't Apple give a guy a job here in the USA? Are they just into communist labor practices?

Large American Capitalist companies have the prime responsibility for monitoring working conditions in "Communist" China.

Greedy fuckers.

I'm curious what the markup is for Apple Products - seeing you can buy a prefab PC, smartphone, or tablet from another company for a fraction of the price with similar or better specs (but more than likely from the same manufacturing plants)

I remember seeing a story about Apple in China and Apple was hiring I think 300 people. There was I line of people hoping to work there. The workers seemed happy. Apple supplied living, food and paid vacation. I remember thinking who cares how much you make an hour when those are covered.

I think America has to become a little less dependent and Manufacture more of our own goods. Consumers might have to start this by demanding/buying American made goods.
