These are just random ideas about some of the songs on the album that I could only hope to see live someday. Not every song obviously, but if you don't like these musings, cool. Post your own or just ignore. Or, flame away. Nothing can be said to diss me, basically.
Make Some Noise - Always, always thought the live break and outro were the real difference makers and key feature of the music on this track, hence I imagined they would jump from mics onto the instruments at those junctures just because. I know, it sounds unwieldy and kind of wack I admit, but I think it could work if MMM extended the beat drop through some cuts to give them time to get off/on the instruments at the right time.
Then I thought more about it and realised while the beat is nothing truly mind blowing, the nice thing is it being played (and sounding live). To recreate this, I thought it could be cool if this track got a bit of that special 'gimmick' treatment ala 3mcs and they performed the beat live at sound check that day, or even earlier in the set that same night as an instro, recorded the video and audio and then busted the raps out over that recently recorded live-er rendition of the music. Sort of collaborating with themselves, so the rapping B-Boys are being accompanied by the giant video B-Boys on the instruments.
But I digress (and nah I don't see it being played all on instruments and live while they rhyme. Probably too hard to make sound right if that horrible cover those other dudes did is any indicator).
Nonstop - Could see it going a couple of ways. Again the focus is on it sounding live, and as such I could see Fredo on the drums and $M with the bass pedal on his keys, recreating this cut. Or it could be a series of merciless MMM switch-ups. Or they could drop the verses over classics like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XOHvOhADAic). Or all three.
OK - Whatever happens (and I legitimately see this song as a potential show opener) there could be protracted shenanigans with the live use of the vocoder in the break. Move the silliness off the wax and make a performance out of it.
TMR - I could honestly see them doing an edited version with just their verses (maybe out of sequence) and the Nas sample on the hook. A shorter one, you know?
Say It - Again I get the horrible 'play the break live' idea on this one, but it's more likely that the space in the break is to accomodate Mike scratching like he's got crabs.
Bill Harper Collection - will probably go like this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Uuz0n8XrDs&feature=fvst)
Don't Play No Game - Honestly have no idea how this would work live.
Long Burn - Would be a dope opener, for a switch up from their usual hectic pace which they don't need to keep trying to pretend to be interested in keeping. Just swag the fuck in, and follow it with Pass the Mic.
Tadlock's Glasses - should be done with the mic effects, sort of like the live Stand Together at French's Tavern or whatever it was called. Could be weirder than one could ever hope but I don't know how.
Multilat - I guess we'd have to find out if it's a vocoder or a talking computer, which could make for some novel ideas in the execution. Whatever, there should be some focus on the 'Water' pedal akin to circa 92 fuzz freakouts pre-Gratitude.
Here's a Little Something For Ya - can't think of much more than MMM extending the break with a beat juggle like he did to Now You're Mine (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yf35Q0329UE) on Spin Psycle. It sounds like the kind of break that was made for Mike to juggle the fuck out of.
Crazy Ass Shit - This could be weird as shit, I honestly think Mike could rhyme while doing the drums live on this. I don't know what the other two would do. Could be a dope opener?
Lisa Lisa - Opener potential for sure, let's see if there's a full version I guess.
Thanks for reading!
