lol @ karate belts :D(y)

this is very fitting because im in the process of TRYING to throw a whole bunch of shit away - wanting to simplify my life. i'm off week and i keep procrastinating. everytime i go back to it i move two things and get annoyed. i can't throw anything away!

that being said, what would come to mind right away would be

- glasses
- wallet
- hard drives
- photos
- blingz
- voltron

maybe my karate belts too

my tons of clothes
my tons of shoes
ear jewlery collection
my handbags
laptop
photos
dvds
cds
tassimo
cell phone
childhood toys
and maybe my pets

i should probably buy all those things again and store it somewhere else cause it would be impossible to get everything out without getting burnt aswell

If my house is on fire,I suspect that the cat is likely to be directly responsible...as his latest thing has been juggling flaming Sai as part of his kata...damn cat....

We actually have what we call a 'grab box', just in case something crazy happens like massive social unrest breaks out and we need be airlifted out of the consulate or something. (I've become friendly with a couple who had to leave Egypt last year under just those circumstances... )Or, you know, a fire. It's got photocopies of all of our important documents (passports, visas, birth certificates, marriage license, etc etc) plus all that stuff scanned onto a disk, as well as disks of my kid's baby photos, other family photos and so forth. Other than that I don't care so much, so long as my family is safe. I have lots of awesome things, arty stuff and cultural stuff we've collected over the years and as we've traveled but at the end of the day that stuff is just stuff.

A PICTURE OF YOUR CAT THAT YOU'RE ALREADY RESCUING?! SHIT'S BURNING DOWN! Dreamcast games you could get on eBay for like $5 a piece too.

It's not just a picture, it's a painted portrait (http://25.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lzlym9ZCw01r9cqe4o1_500.jpg) of her that's basically going to be a family heirloom.

Plus, it's not my games, it's my cartridges. I spent YEARS building up those achievements in Sonic Adventure 2 and Jet Grind Radio and Shenmue and I am being buried with those.

Wallet, phone, kitty, and feather pillow that I've had >1/2 my life that I require to sleep. As a bonus, the pillow is mostly empty and can be bunched up in the bottom of the pillowcase, so I can throw the cat in there for temporary storage.

A fire would give me a good reason to start my DVD collection again but in blu-ray form.

I'd grab....
My dog, Bo
A cartoon of me shooting my friends that a friend of mine made for me.
My box of letters and important things
My photo album (the one with the photos before digital in)
My hard drive (forget the laptop, I could get a much better one with the insurance money)
And any alive people in the house. (except for that really annoying guy that everyone hates)

Edit: forgot, I'd grab my Lego pervert Justin lee Collins too.

like peachy said, most of my stuff is just stuff, it's by the by. it's a cliche, but probably photos, as they are irreplaceable. for some reason i cannot fathom my dad kept all of our family photos in an unsealed bag in the shed, in the middle of the outer hebrides, and when i went to clear our his house after he died i discovered that most of them had melted, disintegrated, were ruined beyond recognition. it was the most heartbreaking thing about it all. coloured ink just smeared and smeared and wiped off to nothing.

on rare occasions you would find everything gone save the face of one person in the middle, that's it. i was so angry at him for not looking after them properly (he wouldn't have known that would happen to them though). i saved what i could - probably only about 10% of an entire family history's worth - and put them in a photo album. old school! but did i learn from my lesson and go home and back them up digitally, or store my own photos? did i 'eck. i should get on that.

i'd also save my insurance documents. if i had insurance. fuck...

I'm looking around my room, and honestly, I can't find one thing that I'd grab. We have copies of all our documents stored off-site, so we're covered there, and while I do have some things of value, I wouldn't care to grab any of them in a fire. I'd likely just leave everything and make sure everyone got out safe. I'm becoming less materialistic as I get older, I think. By the time I'm thirty, I'll be living in a minimalist apartment right out of an Ikea catalog.

Scratch that. If I have time, I'll grab my guitar, but that's about it. It's got sentimental value. Everything else can be replaced.

my laptop
my tshirt collection
a hoodie (it might be cold outside)

if pushed maybe my Alan Watts books, but everything is replaceable really.

I've got one or two sentimental items, but the only thing I would really make a great effort to grab would be my laptop, since it has a crapload of photos and other assorted things on it.

I'd be quite happy to let a lot of the stuff and clutter I have burn, since I've been slowly but steadily giving stuff away anyway. People think I'm going to commit suicide, but I just don't care for piles of clothes or video games that much anymore.

Maybe instead of a fire it could be a gang of homeless people come into your house and take everything in it, that would make me feel less wasteful.

Nah, the hobos don't sound like an urgent enough threat.

I think we'd have to make a compromise here, like a pack of savage wildebeest smashing through your front window and taking your DVD player and some packets of crisps; the good flavours, like beef and onion and beef & onion.

Also some of the wildebeest are on fire.

it would be interesting to see the answers for this question throughout someone's life to see how their priorities change, but as for me now, I would taaake...
off the top of my head:
my laptop
my cell phone
my wallet
and a sweater because it'll probably be cold at night
