Aura is her name. They dated from 86-92... And then I believe he met Lisa after that. Aura, Lisa, Mario C, and many others did have a gathering in honor of MCA. There is a photo of them all holding up a photo of Yauch... Here is the link:

She's been commenting on the Yauch facebook about her memories with him. She's really sweet and spiritual just like him.

And her here too where she was commenting about him..............

Seeing Yauch with his baby daughter is very sad, she's lost her Dad at such a young age. So tragic and unfair, at least she's old enough now to not forget him.:(

I'm still feeling the hurt after more than a week now, which as a 40 year old man has surprised me how much I've been affected, never got really upset over a celebrity death before. I guess normally us normal folk are quite detached from celebs but after 26 years of emotional investment in the Beastie Boys, they were never just a band to me, they've been far, far more. It really has been like losing a family member or close friend.

On a positive note I wore B-Boys tees to work (supposed to wear smart clothes but I thought fuck it, its my way of showing respect) last week and got several comments about Yauch passing and discovered several other fans who I never knew were fans! Had some good conversations, and got a few people to dig out their B-Boys albums for 1st time in a long time.(y)

Anyways, as lots of people have said already the love and support demonstrated on these boards and in the community is incredible, much respect to y'all!

This past week has kicked my ass into gear and got me buying Beastie stuff I've been meaning to buy for a long time like the Ill Communication and Hello Nasty remastered editions (already got the other 2) and the Hot Sauce book/DVD/Blu-Ray.

Also bought this t-shirt on eBay which I think is pretty awesome...

Tee (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270798796649?var=570027884683&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_1029wt_890)

hope the quality is good when it finally arrives.

Maybe I was naive but it never crossed my mind he could die of this cancer. Never.

Same. This is, I think, one of the reasons why I'm still in denial... a week later, I'm still in denial.

Adrock was the heart, Mike D was the brains and MCA was the soul of the Beastie Boys.

Love it.(y)

I remember hanging out in my bedroom and my best friend and his younger cousin brought over Licensed to Ill on cassette. We must have been 11 or 12 years old. Everything musically changed for me that day.

For years I've made the comparison that the Beastie Boys are "our" generation's Beatles. They are the only band since that evolved so much musically. You are a true artist and in your passing your art will live on forever.

Thank you Adam.

So, did Adam's funeral happen already? I read somewhere that it was being delayed because he was a Buddhist and as he was also Jewish they had to work it all out. But that can't be right as he and his wife are Buddhists, so surely his funeral will be 100% Buddhist too?
Great that they kept it all so private and away from the press.

I heard it was because they wanted to find a way to honor his parents too.

And yes, this should be private, as in no press and no paparazzi whatsoever. Don't want Adrock to get pissed and have to go after a paparazzo and get arrested. Again.

I don't know if I could take looking at funeral pictures anyway.

I'm sorry for the intrusion folks, but I have no where else to go to share my feelings. I've been contemplating what I want to say for over a week now and no one in my real life gets it. I came here because I believe you all will appreciate my memories. When I heard that Adam had cancer almost 3 years ago I didn't really think too much of it. He made it sound like no big deal and I treated it as such. I'm not going to sit here and act like the biggest Beastie Boys fan ever because I'm not. I'm ashamed to admit that after Hello Nasty (which I love BTW) I lost touch with the B-boys. I was lucky enough to see them live in 1998 in Philly on the Hello Nasty tour. I will never forget the rotating center stage, and when they played Paul Revere every single person in that arena was on their feet singing along. It was such a wonderful experience. I'm 37 and I started listening to them at age 12. I was knee deep in LTI, PB, CYH & IC all throughout high school and college. I wore Adidas because of them, I still do to this day. I drive Volkswagens because of them. My husband will only eat Carvel ice cream cakes on his birthday because of Cookie Puss. Without even realizing it, these three men impacted our lives greatly. Maybe in a superficial way, but they did none the less. As I said I lost touch with them over the years, life happened, kids, house, job. My musical taste never changed, per say, but I found myself drawn into Tool and all it's counterparts. I did not learn of Adam's humanitarian efforts until after his passing. When I heard he lost his battle with cancer last Friday, my eyes immediately filled with tears. Even now a week later I still cry when I see his face, read a touching article, or listen to their cds. I have rediscovered my love for them. When my husband and I married we joined our cd collection. We have 2 of every album from LTI through Hello Nasty. Without realizing it, MCA impacted my life. Without realizing it, 3 boys from NYC made me smile, made me laugh and made me think. I'm surprised at my reaction to MCA's passing....I don't know why its different....it just is. I feel like I've lost a life long friend, and honestly can't stop crying. I felt the need to come here and unload. All my love to Adam's family, friends, and of course Mike D and Ad Rock. I still can't comprehend that this has happened. I'm sure like others I expected to see them all into old geezer age like on the Sound of Science Anthology. Rest peacefully, Adam. You made yourself clear.

Thanks for sharing your story. I always said that you didn't have to be deep into this fandom to feel the loss. Adam and the Beasties were something special to everybody. Something timeless and apart of all of our lives in some form. I think this is why so many folks are having a hard time accepting that apart of us died with him and the band.

I love reading how this band inspired so many.

They probably don't feel like talking too much to the public right now. Completely understandable.

What I'm thinking is that MTV will give them a call in August/September to appear at the 2012 Video Music Awards. They'll most definitely be a tribute to the Beastie Boys in the middle of the show, with how much they impacted MTV they'd be fools not to do something, so it would make sense for MTV to want Mike D and Adrock to say something after the video/music tribute is done. Even if it means following some crappy new band or Chris Brown doing a cover of "Fight For Your Right".

Beastie Boy who died 2 weeks ago hailed as pioneer

May 18, 2012 · Leave a Comment
Tragic Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch was hailed “a man of colossal talent and charisma” yesterday as New York’s senators vowed to hold a vigil in his memory.

The death of the hip-hop pioneer from lymph cancer a fortnight ago will be officially mourned by the legislature in his home city pausing in silent reflection.

A motion to honour the 47-year-old — better known as “MCA” — was passed at the insistence of state senator Daniel Squadron, who represents the Brooklyn district where Yauch grew up.

In it, the lifelong Beastie Boys fan hailed them for having “helped redefine and rejuvenate a city on the ropes”.

The senator said: “Growing up in New York, listening to the Beastie Boys was as basic as carrying an extra subway token in case of emergency.”

"May 12

Ok, I have the need to share this with you ... I hope not to disturb them.
On Tuesday, in a meditation I had the image of Adam ... I drove through the streets of NYC, and showed him the grafitties, showed him all the gratitude expressed by his followers, even the sit in front of a laptop ... also led him to what was his house and ... I think he was with his wife and daughter ... but can not remember that part ... It was something special ... he was happy..."

I nanny for a 6 month old boy. I accidentally taught him how to beat box. Only in that I walk around the house beat boxing to myself. He picked up on it and started doing it back at me.

The day I Yauch passed away I was with the kid. so I played him some of their jams, I think it was Flute Loop. I beat boxed along and he was dancing and then he kind of just stopped and looked at me, then looked at the speakers and turned his head back to me with a huge shit eating grin. I took it as "oh snap man, I get where you got these beats from. Cool shit. Play me more."

so I did.

Hi there,

I've been meaning to post here during these last couple weeks, but I'm late. Sorry about that, and I don't mean to rehash over sadness or sorrow.

I'm close to 35 and I really began to get into the b-boys during my late teens. Countless times I recall having a f'ed up day at work, or problems in my personal life, yet I could always find happiness with their music. I remember playing "Time to Get Ill" on Friday's at work right around 4-5pm, getting hyped up about going out to have some beers or go over to a friend's house to party it up. Shortly after I got into all of the other albums which had been released at the time.

The first Beasties show I ever attended was in Oakland, back in 1998. Hello Nasty tour, first time MMM toured with them. First time me or my friends got to see the b-boys. So we get there, and we have these seats which were obstructed by the recording cameras. My friends start to complain, and we're told by the cameraman that he will talk to security to see if we can get better seats. After a few minutes he comes back to say there's good news and bad news. Bad news is, no more seats available. Good news is, they can give us general admission tickets. I remember how stoked I was. We got GA tickets and I was RIGHT UP AGAINST the barricade. The Beasties were touring with the rotating stage back then, MMM's group the Skratch Pklz were the headliner. I'll never forget that moment the b-boys came out on the stage, opening the show with "THE MOVE". Never saw a crowd get so excited. Second song was "Sure Shot", the whole crowd started jumping up and down. I had to hold onto the barricade just to keep myself from getting thrown up into the air, lol. It's one of many great Beastie-related memories that is forever engrained in my head.

Anyway, I just want to say Yauch's death troubles me just as much as anyone else. I love the Beastie Boys for everything they've done, fighting the good fight, even when it wasn't the popular thing to do (remember when they asked the prodigy not to play 'smack my bitch up' at the festival they were both playing at?). They have always been the type of guys who never let their egos run rampant like some other celebrities. On the outside, they are a globally known, legendary group that has influenced countless groups and grown a fanbase that transcends generations. On the inside, they were always just three humble old friends who liked to hang out, joke around and make music.

Thanks for everything, Yauch. Long Live the B-Boys. Sean Lennon once said he believed the Beastie Boys to be the Beatles of our generation; I've been thinking back to that quote since Yauch's passing and I think Sean was more accurate than he could have possible known.

Thanks for making the music which has captured countless moments from some crazier days of life, to the life I lead now. Mike D, Ad Rock: Beastie fans got your back 100%. Young and old, from the East to the West.

Sorry for the ramble here, it's hard to articulate so much right now.

What can I say that hasn't been said?

@iamthemaestro - I was at that show in Oakland in 1998, it was a great show.

To me, the Beasties define our generation like the Beatles did the 60's. They were together a lot longer though, how many bands can still pack arenas after 25 years? I know they haven't toured recently but of course they could still fill any large arena in the US and probably world wide.

I thought it was bogus but then some fans on twitter started getting upset so I thought I'd post here and see if maybe folks know this site... I know the Onion posts bogus stories so maybe this is like that.

House of Pain was on Beasties tour but they were kicked off. There was apparently no hard feelings so that's why I was surprised he'd say that. Has to be fake!

Hmmm, interesting they were kicked off a Beasties tour. I wonder was there some bad blood there but probably covered up with a 'no hard feelings' statement at the time? If that is the case then he may well have said something sarcastic to prompt this article?

He talks about House of Pain as if they were on the same level as Beastie Boys, but HOP were only ever a one hit wonder band. Meanwhile BBs continued to have sold out stadiums worldwide decade after decade!

Yeah her stories really are sweet. (y)

I got a good list of celebrity mentions of Adam's passing. Some I hadn't seen before so thought I would post here for safe keeping.

Jay-Z wrote: "May a great musical pioneer rest in peace. Our prayers go out to his family, as his hip hop family mourns our loss and celebrates his life" at Life + Times.

Eminem said to MTV News: "Adam Yauch brought a lot of positivity into the world and I think it's obvious to anyone how big of an influence the Beastie Boys were on me and so many others. They are trailblazers and pioneers and Adam will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, Mike D, and Ad-Rock."

Chuck D of Public Enemy responded to the sad news through Global Grind, saying: "Adam and the Boys put us on our first tour 25 years and 79 tours ago. They were essential to our beginning, middle and today. Adam especially was unbelievable in our support from then 'til now, even allowing me to induct them into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I consider myself a strong man and my father says be prepared to lose many in your post-50 path of life. Still, I'm a bit teary-eyed leaving this plane. R.I.P. Adam aka MCA."

Rapper Nas commented: "One of my greatest moments in music was when I worked with the Beastie Boys... Now today I'm hearing our brother is gone. I prayed this would not happen... MCA was so cool, man. We had great talks about what it was like for them in the beginning, getting into the rap game. I'll never forget that experience for the rest of my life. MCA is true legend who influenced me. God bless his soul and his loved ones".

On their blog, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs wrote: "MCA. You lived so many lives in your time here. Equal parts Musician, activist, philanthropist, director, producer, and father. You taught us how to be cool while getting older, and showed us how to be caring and how to laugh through the same medium. Who else could be friends with the Dalai Lama and also produce the Bad Brains?"

Meanwhile, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day took to Twitter to remember his friendship with Yauch, writing:
Billie Joe Armstrong @BJAofficial
Lollapalooza94 talked to Yauch almost everyday He was full of wisdom & encouragement for a freaked out kid like I was. Thank you MCA. LoveBJ

I never told this story here but this seems like a good a time as any. On Oct. 6, 2004 my older brother Chris (who was my motherfucking hero growing up) lost his battle with brain cancer. On Oct. 9 we laid him to rest on Long Island. I had purchased tickets to see the Beasties at the Garden on Oct. 9 months earlier but obviously wasn't going that night so that I could sit with my family. At around 4PM my best friend came by and said "let's go..." and my family urged me to go as they thought it might make me feel better. So, loaded up on xanax and beer my buddy drove to my apartment down in the Village and we took the train up to 34th st.

I still remember getting a chill when we entered the Garden to the sounds of Sure Shot. It's one thing to see a Beasties show but at the GARDEN? It doesn't get better than that. You all know that the crowd was filming a movie that night and I have a souvenir to always remind me of that snap shot. It is hard to watch the movie but I remember dancing in place and feeling so great and so miserable at the same time. It still makes me feel better and I have no regrets attending the show. Chris would have wanted me to carry on with my plans.

Anyway, sorry to ramble, I am very sad that Adam is gone. I'm sure that mine is just one of thousands of stories where the band brought joy to their fans even in the toughest of situations. R.I.P. Adam

Yauch's verses in "Do It" are outstanding, and underrated. Like:

Well, when I get it into the zone
I'm gonna take it to a place where I'm all alone
Where I got my shit and with my rhyme styles kickin'
My brain is flowing honest like Abe Lincoln
and
I step from minute to minute, lifetime to lifetime
Step from stage to stage to see it all unwind
Slowly but surely I seek to find my mind
And every wall that I face is of my own design

I can't remember how she said they met. I know it was early 80's. I'd have to go back and look myself. If I see it I'll let you know.

saw this thread about aura walker, checked it out, and found her post interrible taste. here's a quote from her... '"this has definitely been areoccurring role for me to take men to their next level of empowerment. Thosewho pay attention go very far." arrogant thing to believe, much less topublicly announce. for someone who studied at a 'Jedi' school I’m surprised atthe unenlightened nature of that particular pronouncement.

that aside, the 25 year old reminiscing about her turning down his many marriageproposals and basically taking credit for yauchs life. it was self aggrandizing.perhaps appropriate in her circle of peeps if that's how she really feels but to broadcast it on a publicforum is distasteful to say the least. she thinks very highly of herself, whichis fine i suppose. i find it tacky that it was put on a public forum.

we all have our flaws. one of mine is feeling the need to throw in my two cents regarding other behavoir I find crappy, as though i am better than anyone else. I'm working on it.

Tend to agree with Gordon there, it is a little off-putting how she portrays herself. And while that makes me uneasy because her image of herself seems to take away from Yauch, I think at the same time, what do we know, really?

That was funny.

Oooh, what a looser... Just kidding , but seriously , has much as I have listen to HOP back then, I could not careless about them now. Never care what happen to them. They were just Irish dudes talking smack ,trying to be black with good sounds.

Beastie are way ahead in term of creation and sounds that have never been even thought up by others. They were always trying to take a step further in their beats. They were not hiphop, they were the Beastie boys, their own style, geniuses for me, most definitely.

Ahhh, shoot , this is not why I'm here, I just think Everlast is SO full of himself. Far away from Adams Yauch mindset. This is why he's so missed, this is why people cry for him. He was just a great man in every way.

Anyway, Today I had a race and dedicated it to MCA. 10 Km with the beasties music on replay!

RIP MCA

I can see how some people might think she’s arrogant, but if she was important to Adam then I am sure she had to be a pretty good person. I don’t know her either. To me she’s just somebody nice from his past sharing some of her memories with/about him. I guess not everybody is going to be interested in what she has to say and that’s cool. ;)

Oh and about that photo. I am sure one day I’ll get it. I’m the PHOTO QUEEN!!!!!!!

regarding the Everlast and HOP posts, I hate to keep harping on this- that was a SATIRE ARTICLE.

Everlast never said those things about Adam.

it was meant to honor and respect the awesomeness that is MCA while kind of exposing others as never being able to hold a candle to someone like Yauch.

Found this quote from Mario C, to NME this week, regarding the boys' final recording session:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/jun/13/beastie-boys-ad-rock

Producer Mario C told NME this week that Yauch had been in the studio up until a few months before he died.

He said: "The guys told me that he wanted to record. So they hung out and did what they used to do – just lay it down and have fun. He would want people to hear it if it was good. I'm not sure what his voice was sounding like at that point. I'm sure the guys would be very tasteful in using anything. If it was supposed to be heard and it's appropriate then it will happen."

I just wanted to pay my respects to Adam. A beautiful man taken from us far too early. As a fan I feel a sense of loss but I know that is nothing to the pain his friends and family are going through or have been through these past few years.

"Everywhere she dies.
Everywhere I go she dies.
No sunrise, no city square, no lurking beautiful mountain but has her death in it.

The silence of her dying sounds through the carousel of language,
it's a web on which laughter stitches itself.
How can my hand clasp another's when between them is that thick death, that intolerable distance?
She grieves for my grief.
Dying, she tells me that bird dives from the sun, that fish leaps into it.
No crocus is carved more gently than the way her dying shapes my mind.

But I hear, too, the other words, black words that make the sound of soundlessness,
that name the nowhere she is continuously going into.
Ever since she died she can't stop dying.
She makes me her elegy. I am a walking masterpiece, a true fiction of the ugliness of death.
I am her sad music."

by Norman MacCaig

rest in peace Adam and I hope with all my heart your family and friends can in time find some way through their grief and pain.

Guys,

My name is Sid from UK independent brand Retreat. I guess like you all here i am a massive fan of The beasties. ever since my cousin handed me down the cassette of Licensed to Ill back in approx 1988 when I was 13.

They influenced both myself, my wife and my friends when we were growing up.

Check Your Head was my generations SGT Peppers. No one did it like them.

I was utterly shocked when Adam passed away as I always just thought they would be around throughout my life, or until I was old and grey.

As much as I am a fan I never considered releasing a t-shirt design of the boys until approx 3 weeks before Adam passed away.

I created a subtle custom pocket t-shirt design featuring the inlay from Paul's Boutique. These haven't been completed yet as I began on focusing a tribut tee which I finally completed a few weeks back.

The "NEW YAUCH CITY" design has proved to be a huge success.
I decided I was going to donate all profits to both Milarepa and tibetfund.org which is based out of NYC

The idea was to print off 100 tees and to my amazement most of these have SOLD OUT on pre-orders alone yesterday.

I plan on re-printing another batch in a few weeks as this is for such a good cause I figured why not.

Please take a look at the design, they retail at £20 UK pounds
if you like it and want to support two amazing charities please email me at

It's not much but Billy Corgan did mention Yauch again in a new interview.

Q. Before we get into the new album and everything, Adam Yauch's death hit me pretty hard being a big Beastie Boys fan. I know you knew him -- can you share some words on MCA?
A. I certainly don't want to play myself off as a friend, but I did intersect with him, and we had good conversations. We talked about spiritual matters: Tibet and just more pragmatic spirituality. He was a humble, soulful person and I was surprised by that. We all get caught up in that. In rock and roll, you rarely meet truly soulful people. He was very truly one of them.

Adam would have been so impressed to see the Mars Curiosity landing yesterday, while at the same time, the news out of Wisconsin (terrorist hate crimes against the Sikh community- probably because they were mistaken for Muslim people :( ) would have hurt his heart...

are there quotes from Yauch or Adrock from the post 9/11 days when they organized New Yorkers Against Violence? I remember a Sikh man was murdered in the days after 9/11 and I seemed to remember Horovitz speaking out...

the Beastie Boys preached against intolerance before it was cool.

That nostalgia is something the Beasties brought back to me with every record release or NY area show. It still hurts very much losing Yauch. I know it's selfish but I also know I will never experience that excitement and anticipation that the Beasties brought with every release or show. Hope everyone is maintaining.

I might be an asshole, but all I know there is an excellent band that needs to move on and release some fuckin' new music y'all. I am absolutely positive that Yauch would want that and at the same time think I was an asshole. Which I probably am.

Go back to your FARM and play with the animals....sounds like you need a vacation.

And stop moaning about NEW music. Mike and Adam will do what they please with the band idiot.

And don't turn a peaceful thread into something negative asshole.

It is best to think of Adam as a kind, generous artist who gave much to this troubled world. Do not be sad at his passing, but take pleasure to have been touched by his generous and enlightened soul. This makes me feel better when I get down. Also being altruistic when in a darkened, sad place; rather than taking out frustrations on others. It is a righteous path seldom taken.

Music is shit without the Beastie Boys and you.

I haven't posted on here in years, but this is definitely something I've been meaning to do since I first heard the news. Life's just been insane for me the last few years or so.

Anyways...

Rest in peace Adam (M.C.A.) Yauch. I miss you, and wish you were still with us. I hope to meet you one day. He was a huge influence in my life during many times and (it goes without saying), but just a flat out multifaceted genius.

I always get really sad when I watch Beastie-ography, and how it ends with MCA saying something in Italian? that sounds and give the impression to me like goodbye, or see you later. I don't know. It just hits me hard :(. And it's difficult to see him in Fight For Your Right (Revisited) in the condition that he's in. But it's truly incredible that through all his pain and suffering he was in, during the making of the video, that he created what I consider to be the greatest music video yet made to this day.

I guess this is all I have to say at this time.

I just read that George Harrison was cremated at a cemetery in LA but his ashes were scattered along holy sites in India, according to Hindu tradition.

I can't help but wonder and ask, and I'm sure I'm not the only curious one to think of such a private and delicate matter, but will we ever hear the outcome of Adam Yauch's final resting place or what happened to his remains?

without assuming anything, it would bring peace to know a similar ceremony and/or tradition was held in Yauch's honor.

Not sure if we ever will hear about it. I guess it would be up to Dechen to share that unless Adam didn't want it to be known. But you certainly are not alone win wondering about this........

Hey...I just wanted to thank Adam Yauch for his music, wisdom and positivity on what would've been his 50th birthday. I know that Dechen and Tenzin Losel are very proud for all you did. I've been a fan since I was a kid. MCA's music helped me get through a lot. Thank you for introducing me to Buddhism and teachings of the Dali Lama... It has truly been a lifesaver. I guess you left us so early because your purpose was complete but your altruism is needed much more in your next life... Peace be with you ➰🌾

Young dude (mid-20s) checking me out at Whole Foods last week and he noticed my ABA shirt, saying "Yeah, Beastie Boys!" and we talked a bit about them then he said "I just wish I had gotten to see them live" and it struck my chest like a little bolt of lightning. Damn.

its been over 10 years since I started posting on this message board and way over 20 years since I became a die hard beastie fan.

man I feel old.

As my life evolves the Beasties continue to have a different context in my world - not any worse just different.

I will never forget how important they were to me when I was younger and how much my connection with them helped shape my identity and helped me through some hard times.

not to mention dope concerts, making beastie remixes, and briefly meeting them.

It is sad to think MCA is not here. I hope the boys put something together. They are all so creative. Would be cool. Either way Beastie Boys Rule.

I was at uncle Guiseppes the other day and the kid behind the counter had a tag that read "Mike d". I say to him "so, this is where you went after the Beasties broke up" he laughed and said he gets lots of mentions in regards to the Beastie boys. I then began to tell him that the Beasties used to come to massapequa to see thier doctor about 25 years ago". He didn't seem to care.
