I did not cry when my grandmother died, but I cried at this news. I am so sad right now. Thanks MCA for some great music and showing your bizarre sense of humor in your music videos. You will be sorely missed.

this is what i was afraid of.

thanks to the universe for giving us yauch for all these years.

a lot of us feel like he's family and this strikes many of us as though he was.

having grown up listening to yauch, grown closer to the music, the message and the group.. i just can't believe he's gone.

even though we all knew that there was a chance this might happen sooner rather than later this is still a shock.

i am so thankful for the time i've/we've gotten to 'spend' with yauch... albums, shows, videos, interviews and thoughts - he has thoroughly filled our lives with a part of himself that will always live on through each of us forever.

i feel that as the man grew, many of us have grown. thank you for in your own way guiding all of us through many of the difficulties of growing up through your example.

thank you for teaching me/us that you are never doomed to be just one you, that life is all about evolution - growth and becoming a better person.

thank you for teaching me/us that individuality doesn't come from your clothes or the color of your hair, but rather from your willingness to live from your heart authentically.

thank you adam yauch.

many condolences to his family and to mike and adam.

beastie boys forever.

Looks like an official statement:

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/adam-yauch-death-beastie-boys-reactions-320420

"It is with great sadness that we confirm that musician, rapper, activist and director Adam 'MCA' Yauch, founding member of Beastie Boys and also of the Milarepa Foundation that produced the Tibetan Freedom Concert benefits, and film production and distribution company Oscilloscope Laboratories, passed away in his native New York City this morning after a near-three-year battle with cancer. He was 47 years old," Yauch's band mates Michael Diamond aka Mike D, Adam Horovitz aka Ad-Rock and Michael Schwartz aka Mix Master Mike said in a statement via their publicity company, Nasty Little Man.

Its a bummer after hearing that his health, after the operation, he was doing okay and then months, months later a tragedy like this happens out of the blue. Adam was a really talented man, I wish he had lived a lot longer and its a shame that he passed away at 47. Though gone, I am glad Adam Yauch was part of my life. R.I.P. Adam.

This was on the Washington Post's website. The writer used Beastie lyrics to create this poem.

Born and bred Brooklyn — U.S.A.
They call me Adam Yauch but I'm M.C.A.
Like a lemon to a lime, a lime to a lemon
I sip the def ale with all the fly women
I'm not James at 15 or Chachi in charge
I'm Adam and I'm adamant about living large
I've got more rhymes than I've got gray hairs
And that's a lot because I've got my share
Now what do we have here, an outlaw and his beer
I run this land, you understand, I make myself clear.
M.C. for what I am and do
the A is for Adam and the lyrics; true
so as pray and hope and the message is sent
and I am living in the dreams that I have dreamt
I wish for peace between the races
Someday we shall all be one
That's right y'all
Don't get uptight y'all
I'm out and I'm gone
I tell you now I keep it on and on.

RIP Adam.

I am at a loss for words, but thank you.

It was something else to take to twitter and see the love for MCA today. This wasn't just a blip on the radar or a big deal for just us, Yauch and the beastie boys were loved and adored by millions.

The new York mets will use beastie boy songs as their walk up music tonight. The mariners will take the field as a team to the bboys in his honor. As a baseball junkee I find that so cool.

They have everyone's respect and no body hates them.

And my love forever. Thank you.

The NY Daily News is reporting he was in hospice care for the past month at NY Presbyterian hospital. I dont know where they got their source from, but if thats true then he already knew he was near the end when Adrock read his letter at the Rock and Roll HOF. Brings that scene to an entirely new level of sad.
